Well, it finally happened: the Canadian dollar has actually hit par with the US buck! At 10:58 a.m., our dollar hit $1.0004 U.S.

This is HUGE news for those of us who have been going to New Orleans for a while, because it wasn't that long ago (2002) that our dollar was only worth $0.62 US. In simple terms, it meant that it took $1.61 Canadian to buy $1 US. If we wanted to spend $1,000 in Nola during the Fest, we had to cough up $1,610 of our dollars for the privilege. I recall ordering a 2002 poster, and by the time I was done with the exchange rate, the shipping charges, the customs brokerage fees and the applicable taxes, a $59 poster ended up costing close to $150 CDN.

So what does this mean in real terms? 'Mo partying, 'mo souvenirs, 'mo jazzfest, 'mo cocktails, 'mo LMF!

Of course it sucks for our tourism since your dollar doesn't go as far, and our manufacturing/export sector isn't happy ay all, but for those of us who like partying with y'all...game on!

Yep, Canada is no longer a great deal to us. By cutting the Fed rate and devaluing the dollar, we may be headed for greater trouble than by letting the country tighten it's belt a little. But, Mr. Bush said today that Dr. Bernanke is doing a heck of a job so all is well.........

This is very very bad news.

The good old days of being able to get a lap dance near YYZ for six bucks American may never return. Soon, Colorado ski resorts will be overrun by Canadian bargain hunters. And it's just a matter of time before you Canadians start asking us, "how much is that in real money?"

I never thought I'd live to see the day when the Canadians could outbid the Texans for a chunk of the Colorado Rockies...

It's a brave New World when TV shows and movies are set in Toronto, but everything looks suspiciously like Chicago.

Yeah, the whole movie thing is actually pretty funny. I happened to be down on Yonge Street here in Toronto on Saturday, and I looked up the street and saw this big "Apollo" sign on the side of a building. I said to my friend: "Holy crap!!! They've opened up an Apollo in Toronto??? That's amazing!"

Unfortunately, they are shooting some Hulk movie here right now, and the sign was just part of a fakey New York scene. Sniff.

Yeah, I recall hearing a pretty funny story about Toronto doubling for NYC, Chicago, etc...

It turns out that one of our neighbourhoods (Cabbagetown) was pegged to fill in for a NYC street, but the producers determined that it was too "clean". To create the proper NYC ambiance, the production company went out and purchased a whole bunch of scrap paper and tossed it all over the streets. They tipped over the garbage cans, added a few toxic puddles...you get the picture.

Well, the neighbours came home from work and took one look at the mess and said: "This won't do! They're supposed to be shooting a movie here - we need to clean this up!" The next day, the crew showed up to find their set spotless, of all its expensive paper gone and everything exactly as it was before they showed up.

The Chinese are too busy buying up California. [I guess it's only fair. They did most of the dirty work to build the State]

Our dollar is now about 0.86c which is great mate. As soon as it got over 0.80 we paid for all our accommodation next year. Makes a big difference when spread over air fares, accommodation, brass passes, etc.

Good morning and now back to the frivolity!
