Ohio, have you heard of a band called Cincinnati Schnapps? Reason I'm asking is that they are playing a free show in Lexington, KY on 9-28-07.

It's kind of funny because the opening acts are Erin McKeown and Alejandro Escovedo. I sort of don't get it.
Anyway, the whole thing is free and open to the public. It's a fund-raiser being put on for a large Catholic school in Lexington. It's a Friday, so I'm going.

BTW, Erin McK. will be performing the night before @ the Canal Street Tavern in the wilds of Dayton, Oh, ho- ho. I'm just sayin'...:D

I found their web site. Apparently, they are "one of Cincinnati's finest German-American Bands." Which causes me to wonder, how many German-American bands do we actually have?

They're four guys in leiderhosen and shorts who have been entertaining the tri-state area since 1978. Their repertoire includes "We Left Our Wives At Home"*, "Ich Tang Fur Euch Den Sonnenschein", and "Herz, Schmerz Und Dies Und Das."

Their web site was very educational, though. It raises and answers some very important questions, as follows: What is an accordian good for (1); What is the difference between an onion and an accordian (2); and What is the difference between an accordian and a trampoline (3), to cite just a few examples.

Anyway, it looks like I'll have a pretty good excuse to get on I-75 to head back to Cincy pretty early on the 28th!:)

* Completely understandable. I wouldn't go out with my husband in public, either, if he dressed like them. :D

1.) Learning how to fold a map.
2.) People cry when they chop up onions.
3.) You take off your shoes before you jump up and down on a trampoline.

Lineups at free things are usually topsy-turvy. I played on a benefit for the Overton Park Shell (cool place where lots of famous folks played) some years back. Keith Sykes and John Kilzer both pretty big names at the time both played before us on the bill. Since they weren't getting paid, they obviously played when they were available (before they took off for some paying gig). I do sometimes tell people they opened for us.

I've been in a few non-memorable bands. This one was "The Memphis Skin".

Your command is my wish. I don't have much, but I think I have something from that gig. It's just me on drums. I didn't sing with this band, but we had some interesting originals.

I haven't seen her perform live yet, so I'm quite intrigued.

So much interest in this longgone band? If I recall, we had a bass, keyboard, lead guitar, a lead singer who played guitar, harmonica or keyboards, and drums. I'm not sure you could describe it, but it was kinda the rock-country-blues-boogie popular in the early seventies (of course this was in the eighties).

Well, it sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. Do you ever get together and jam these days?

I've played in several bands since then. The band leader now lives in Texas. One of the guys I haven't seen since then. The only one I occasionally jam with is the bass player. I do also jam with some other guys that were in my blues band and my soul band. I love playing music, even though I'm not all that good.

yyr once we saw Del McCoury band "open" for the local square dance club at a free fair in Laverne(?) Tennessee. It was funny to see everyone so nonchalant about seeing Del &the boys, set up on a flatbed truck at a local town fair, when people go nuts for them up here.
