Hi all -

Headed to Philly for 5 days (business and pleasure) and staying down at Lowe's Penn's Landing. I am going with my girlfriend and don't know the city all that well. I have been to Pat's and Geno's, Phillies, etc.

Any advice from the t-head nation on great restaurants, brunches, activities? Also, I checked the Electric Factory and didn't see music really listed for this weekend???? Any feedback specifically on these restaurants -Savolo, City Tavern, Buddakan. Thanks all.

Unfortunately, the music scene in Philly over the next week does not look too promising (IMHO of course). The link is from Pollstar.

The City Tavern can be wonderful or not, depending on your perspective. We love it. However, there aren't lots of choices on the menu. The food is reminiscent of food from the 1700's in that wild meat and simple vegetables and grains are served. The food is delicious, but if you are a picky eater, you probably wouldn't enjoy it. We find it romantic, peaceful, and different.

Looks like the only possibilities for me might be Southern Culture and Pat McGee.

Nash, here are a few places I can vouch for near where you are staying:

Khyber Pass (56 S. 2nd St): a really funky bar. A little dank, a little dusty, and lotsa character. All sorts of people go there, and the bar conversation can be lively. They have music, too.

Tin Angel/Serrano (20 S. 2nd St.): The Tin Angel is an upstairs music club that books folk, blues and different vocalists. The Serrano is the downstairs restaurant. Very good food IMHO.

The Plough & The Stars (between 2nd St. and Chestnut): A good Irish pub with better than average food.

One of my favorite places right now would be a cab ride for you. There's a place called Monk's, on the corner of 16th & Spruce, that has very hard-to-find Belgian beer on draft and authentic Belgian cuisine. It's an excellent place and reasonably priced as well.

Hope you enjoy Philly.

This is my web site: www.fullmoonblues.com. I have some Philly things listed there. If you have a car, there is a benefit show this weekend for Georgie Bonds, a musician who is having some health issues. Here's some info on that: http://www.bluesnite.net/

I forgot Warmdaddy's. Great southern food, and they serve ABITA. :D It's close to where you are staying, too. http://www.warmdaddys.com/

this weekend. They were tighter than I remember and they had a singer and I am still researching who it was. I was pretty bamboozled towards the end but guy had pipes.

PS - Liked the fact that Liberty and Independence Hall were free.

I like the story of how they end up hooking up. 'It's a small world' and all that funk. Miss seeing Lettuce.
