That's a no-brainer. You can't do better than a good muff.

I have & because I was with Barry zipcode, I had the requisite hot dog while waiting to order my pastrami. It was crazy good. I'd still rather have a muff, must be in my dna. ;)

YYR, I LURVE me some pastrami sammiches from Katz's !!!! They're like buttah!!! (drool, drool) Particularly with a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda! :D

Unfortunately, as I don't like olives - the muff is one NOLA speciality I haven't been able to embrace - sorry, guys. :o

i prefer katz corn beef...
and i think their sandwiches are quite a bit taller than in that pic....
also need a good sour pickle, and sour tomato...
also try katz stuffed derma...its like a jewish boudin....but its flat like a pancake,
and has a casing around the outside...
i dont member katzs knishes, im sure they are good...try shatzkins in brighton beach, they also make a mean kasha knish...

Muffaleta is my winner. Central's olive salad is one of the best and I always leave NOLA with a jar.

Although the lobster roll at Red's Eats (http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=2959)should be on the list as while I'll bet the California version is good, I just can't imagine that it can match Red's.

And, need I say, the tag team of Jazz Fest's own Soft-shell Crab Po' Boy and Cochon de lait are awaiting and could give the champ a beating.

Have to go with the "home-boy"! But I like Dimartino's better than Central.
Although Katz's pastrami would be #1a...mmmm, mmmm "Send a salami to a boy in the Army!"
papa: the stuffed derma is "kishka"---similar to boudin, but I like boudin more betta.
Knish with Gulden's mustard...mmm, mmm... it's a good thing I'm not hungry, or I would be drooling about now!

HELLOOO, Excuuuse me, Maine lobster roll from California?!?!? An oxymoron if I ever heard one! And, dayum, $14.95 for a pastrami sammich? That's a serious NYC price for a sandwich!

I love all these delicious sammiches!

We have our own entry here in Cincy- Izzy's Famous Corned Beef. Izzy's Deli is celebrating 100 years in business. That golden brown side item is an Izzy potato cake, over half an inch thick and maybe the most awesome fried potato product on the planet. Trust me, an addiction waiting to happen. The kosher dills are fab too!

Central Grocery's muffuletta is in a class by itself. I don't say this to compare one against the other, but my favorite sandwich is the pastrami po-boy at Johnny's.

Sorry, had to vote Katz's. I actually prefer the corned beef at Carnegie to the pastrami at Katz's, but both are quite wonderful. Plus I hate olives. If there had been a shrimp po boy in the voting, I might have stayed loyal to New Orleans. Or cochon de lait, of course.

I voted for Central Gro. And yes I have been to Katz's deli, although I had to ask twice for my sandwich, cause they couldn't understand me go figure.
Yes & Barry Zip Code always gets a hot dog first to share with us non-New Yorkers in line. And yes I have eaten Kishka twice. They need to have Crystal hot sauce at Katz's, but the sandwiches are huge.

Well I'll have to check out the list. Not big on olives, either, but I still like a muffa - the ones Rosie had at rosetreefest were great, as I recall.

Had my first taste of Katz corned beef and pastrami this July, it was amazing. And huge, 1/2 was plenty. Loved the potato pancakes too. Just like grandma used to make. Yes, sour cream AND applesauce, please.

Oh, and never even heard of that Chicago one before. Jeez! You'd think they'd list Al's Italian beef, juicy, with peppers, if anything.

I don't like olives either. And I rarely eat beef or pork because of food sensitivities so the pastrami or corned beef wouldn't be for me. Shrimp poboy is my sandwich of choice when in Nola too. And I do love a FG cochon du lait poboy. Oh, yeah, baby!

Ohio, that looks scrumptious! Wouldn't take me long to get hooked on that! New York-style Jewish deli cuisine is about my favorite. I have been to Katz's....great! I grew up in Miami Beach so am that type of food is dear to my heart (and stomach). Great restaurants like Wolfie's and Pumperniks were part of my life....sadly they are gone.

All of a sudden I'm freaking starving. I'd like one Central Grocery muff and one of Katz's big-ass pastramis. Central makes my fave muff and I haven't had one in a few months, although that's likely to change very soon. And I only had the Katz once...in November...and I absolutely can't wait to go there again. Wow!

I was once sitting in the little park behind the french market and across from Central enjoying a muff from central with a cold one and a bag of creole tomato Zapps when I heard a guy describe to a girl what I was eating as "just like an Italian sub from Subway"....lucky for him I had my mouth full

Interesting that they went to California for Lobster Rolls...plenty o' places in the NE for them, especially Maine.

Yep, those were great!!!! So, where is Dimartino's? I used to have several places I preferred to Central, but they either went out of business (like Messina's) or I've forgotten who they were.
