I got an alert from Amazon....

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

As someone who has purchased crime thriller books, we thought you'd like to know that K-Ville, the new crime action series starring Anthony Anderson and Cole Hauser, premieres Tonight at 9/8c on FOX.

From writer and executive producer Jonathan Lisco (NYPD Blue, The District) comes K-Ville, a new police drama set and filmed in New Orleans. Marlin Boulet (Anthony Anderson) is a brash veteran of the NOPD's Felony Action Squad, the specialized unit that targets the most-wanted criminals. He also held his post during Hurricane #@#/, spending days in the water saving lives and keeping order, even after his partner deserted him. Boulet's new partner, Trevor Cobb (Cole Hauser), was a soldier in Afghanistan before joining the NOPD. Though committed to his new job, he's less than comfortable with Boulet's methods - and is harboring a dark secret.

Doesn't appeal to me at all, yet I bet if I was in the US I'd be compelled to watch.

FWIW, today's Boston Herald gave the show a C- after viewing the first two episodes, saying the crime and violence won't do much for tourism. "What New Orleans may gain in the short-term from production dollars may be offset by a drop in tourism bucks. Yet somehow I don't think anyone in NOLA has anything to fear. This show will blow over like an afternoon shower." The reviewer also said Anthony Anderson is the best thing about the show. I'll watch just to see NOLA and check it out for myself.

It doesn't look like it was that well received by the critics, but crap, what do they know!!!:p

WHAT??? he has seen my pictures and heard me talk, knows where I have volunteered and read all the news and met my friends when they have visited here..NOW he is worried about my safety because he was affected by a tv drama and not even a really good one ?
I am hoping he is kidding....

That is an excellent point ross. It is just a tv show. Some might foolishly take it as the truth.

I thought it was great to see the city but I'll have to view the show a couple of more times to see if I like it. Right now it seems like the usual cop drama.

I could use more of the culture in the show. Wishful thinking. It was cool to hear Dr. John in the opening.

Interesting....all places I have been alone and he has been confident that I know where to go and where not to go......but he really felt that K-VILLE portrayed NOLA as a community under siege and a wide sweeping war zone with no place untouched...and it made him uncomfortable...
Me I just wanted more of what is awesome about New Orleans the people and culture interspersed with that same old rote cop story...

I was hoping for the same, Denise. The story arc could be so much more because the people here have so much more to offer. Tell your husband that the areas in the city portrayed that would be similar to any areas in NO are NOTthe areas that you would go near. Every major city has areas that are dangerous, but all of them aren't exposed on TV all of the time.

He says he intellectually knows I am as safe in New Orleans as I am just about anywhere...but was surprised at how negatively the city was being portrayed.
it creeped him out....Yes the struggle to go back was vividly portrayed as a struggle but he also got that why would people bother "what with the mold and the toxic smells and the crime and the schools being even worse" Some of which I think we have become complacent about. Maybe on a positive note it will WAKE some people up (maybe more than we think) that it surely ain't over! and could be a jumpin off place for more meaningful dialogue about real solutions...all the anniversary coverage didn't do it so maybe a mediocore prime time show will help?

But both shoot-up-the-party sequences took place in the Quarter.

Well, so much for the Mayor's "there's no such thing as bad publicity" theory.

But that was fiction...
As I said, the whole raw, edgy kind of action-packed police drama that the producers tried to create could have been handled much better in regard to the people of New Orleans and what it is really like post-K.
I'll give it one more week and then I'll vote with my remote.

I enjoyed watching the show but I love seeing anything with NOLA in it. The actual plot was typical cop show. We all know and love New Orleans and realize it isn't as bad as the show portrayed it. Yes all cities have areas where you shouldn't go! I am just concerened for the reactions of people who don't know the city and take what they see on TV as gospel(even dramas or reality TV)

A very close friend of mine, Michael O'Neill, is currently shooting K-
Ville in New Orleans, as a guest star. I'll try to find out when his episodes will air.

From Michael: "I'm playing an ex-cop turned priest. Bad blood between me and the show's lead detective. No idea when it airs, but it's the 6th episode."

great article. i watched it. i happen to like some cops shows anyway...i had to flip the channel when the water was rushing down the stairs...knowing that that little girl is freaking out...a little too much for me...but i turned it back after a couple of minutes. i hated that the shoot em up scene was in the quarter...i'm scared that some folks that already see new orleans as unsafe will only allow this tv program to further instill that fear...i like the lead cop...he seems like a lot of folks that are just trying to get back to a normal, if not, a better life. it makes me sad that his wife would just leave him but i'm certainly not in that situation, so i can't speak from experience, but i don't think i would. i will continue to watch it until it's pulled. it also made me miss the city even more, and i'm trying to save for a damn furnace...now i thinkin...well maybe i don't really need a furnace and i can come back down soon!!

This is salt to an open wound. People do not say N'Awlins. Cops don't chase criminals from Bourbon Street all the way over the Cresent City Connection to the West Bank. Yes, New Orleans is dealing with her problems. We don't need a poorly made Fox drama to highlight them unfairly and to project the image across the nation/world. No one made a tv show about Oklahoma City after the bombing. Or New York after it's two terrorist attacks. Or the recovery in California after wild fires, earthquakes, mudslides, etc. There's corruption everywhere. What we don't need are more misleading, ill informed shows or movies about our city (eg Point of No Return, the Big Easy, the Pelican Brief, etc.). Grow up, Hollywood. No one wears beads outside of carnival season. And naming a show after the most singularly disasterous event in our city's history in hurtful. People are still recovering. Even now. Give us a break. And while you're at it, why don't you make a movie or show about the mismanagment of this COUNTRY. Oh, wait, Comedy Central took care of that. It's called LIL BUSH.

I think that we should bump this up to the top and add to this with our reviews and questions so people aren't confused with the "Paul Sanchez" thread....

From today's paper....I think that the producers are finally "getting it"!!!:D

Well from now on, the storyline may have to take a back seat so I can pay attention to the music and the sets! Also, anyone who misses a show (or misses the end because they fell asleep, like me and Corona), can either read a detailed recap on the website or watch the episode online. The music for the episodes is also listed. http://fox.com/kville/recaps/

I've just searched the site and would love to find a way to get in touch with them....Shamarr does it all....Jazz, Funk, Brass bands, and some serious rap and hip hop that most people have no idea that he does...he's rapped in a few rap shows at HOB and has a rap cd that he made... they want to blend old New Orleans music with a modern day edge...he's their man..they just don't know it yet!! Anyone have any ideas how to send them some of his websites?
