Holy cow! Have you seen the lineup for this one? John McLaughlin, Sonny Landreth, Los Lobos, Cindy Cashdollar, North Mississippi Allstars, etc....
Thursday night is the official opening party. 5 bands for 5 bucks. The party lineup includes Sonny Landreth & Cindy Cashdollar and they're only selling 1000 tickets.
Friday night, Los Lobos are playing a ticketed event which is followed by a free show by the North Mississippi Allstars at midnight. I'd been on the wait list for LL for a month or three and just received my ticket confirmation this afternoon. 6th row, smack dab in the middle!
Anyone else going?
Most of the shows I would be interested in say "tickets not available to the general public".

Right, Bry. I guess they are made available to students and subscribers first, and everyone else gets put on the wait list. I signed onto the wait list for my tix about 2 or 3 months ago. It was so long ago, I'd almost forgotten about it.
Received notification today, so I made hotel arrangements & I'll be on my way on Thurs. There are plenty of free shows, though, and exhibitions, like John Lennon's bus, and the opening show/party is only $5. Can't wait to check it all out!

Yeah, looks like it's a festival put on for the students' benefit, and that is cool. I guess that's why this large bunch of rabid festivalists didn't already know about it!
Hacienda Bros next month & Louden in Dec.- we goin'???

I hope they'll let an old lady like me in! :D
HB, for sure! Louden, don't let me forget about, okay? I usually make an annual pilgrammage to the Fillmore in December, so I hope the dates don't conflict.

Yes, will have to do the Biscuit again. Its been something like 20 years since we went to King Biscuit.

Let us know if Sonny & Cindy shared the stage. They have worked together on projects before.
Wow! 6th row middle for one of the greatest bands out on tour. Waiting on a review.
Thanks!

'K, Fred, but since I know we both love LL, most of my focus will be on them. I'd signed up for tix on July 4th since I'm not a season subscriber @ the Krannert Center. On Wednesday, 12 Sept., I received notification from the center that they had seats for me! The best one I scored was for Los Lobos for Friday night.
The show was listed as sold out, but there were 2 empty seats to my left, so I had plenty of room to stretch out! The Tyron Festival Theater holds about 1200 and the acoustics are sweet. I was seated 6th row center on the floor. I couldn't believe how lucky I was.
Lobos opened up with "La Pistol Y El Corazon", from the album of the same name. They played some songs from the newest album, "The Town And The City", "Chuco's Cumbia", and "The Town". They played "Kiko And The Lavender Moon' and "Saint Behind The Glass" from KIKO. They played "Pajaro Cu", "Teresa", and "Luz de Mi Vida", which is from "Good Morning Aztlan".
One of my favorites,"Short Side Of Nothing", sounded really great! It's not one they play all the time. They played Fats Domino's "The Fat Man', which will be on the Fats Tribute album that will be released in a few weeks.
When they played "One Time One Night", David Hidalgo employed Hendrix's intro from "One Rainy Wish" as the introduction. It was so good!
There was another cumbia ( I think), "Maricela", which I love. "Ay Te Dejo en San Antonio" finally got the crowd on its feet. David kept asking folks to get up & dance, but I guess everyone felt a little intimidated by the surroundings."Don't Worry Baby" had 'em all rocking. They played "Not Fade Away">"Bertha". Then "Cinnamon Girl." Left the stage to thunderous applause and cheering.
The crowd kept up the racket until the band came back out. They took the roof off of the place with "Mas Y Mas". Love that tune. So much Spanglish; so little time! That's the song they did with Robert Randolph sitting in on their live Fillmore DVD.
Of course, the above list of songs is not the entire concert. They played for 2 hours and it was a real treat to hear them in a concert hall instead of a festival setting, which means a more compresssed time slot.
After the show, they did a meet & greet with the fans in the merchandise room.
Following Los Lobos, North Mississippi Allstars put on a free show after midnight in the lobby of the Krannert. Big crowd, too. Everybody groovin'!
Yes, Cindy Cashdollar did play on stage with Sonny Landreth & the Goners. That was on Thursday night, the opening party which was $5. They were followed by the Campbell Brothers on another stage in the lobby. Toubab Krewe opened the evening's festivities.
The night was capped off with the Yohimbe Brothers. YB are Vernon Reid from Living Colour, turntablist DJ Logic and the backup band. It was a blast!
Saturday night was Abdoulaye Alhassane Toure and Banning Eyre, Jorma Kaukonen with Cindy Cashdollar, & Buddy Guy. Same hall as Los Lobos...freakin' fantastic!
All the shows sold out. I didn't get a chance at the John McLaughlin tix. Those were long gone.
There were workshops and demos and exhibits and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. Lots of nice people of all ages and walks of life. It was really a fantastic event. Oh, I got to say hi to Dan Zanes, formerly of the Del Fuegos. He does "family music" now , but I haven't heard any of it. He was at the Los Lobos show and was performing on Saturday.
This was the 2nd time they have produced Wall2Wall. The first one was in 2005.
The Lobos show may have been stealth taped. Not sure, but if I hear anything, I'll let you know. The sound was so good, it'd be a shame if the band didn't get a SBD.
Fred, I have an extra program from the event, if you'd like to have it, let me know & I'll send it to you. You can see most of the info at www.WalltoWallGuitar.com
p.s. The song list for Los Lobos is not complete, nor are the songs in the order in which they were played.

Thank you so very kindly for the review. I always enjoy reading about great music events. Just another event to add to my long list of things to do. That is great if you have an extra program. e: FredTexasJFFanatic@yahoo.com
It has been way to long since I've seen Los Lobos. Would have also enjoyed seeing Sonny with Cindy Cashdollar.

Yes, it was a really nice weekend, Fred. Friendly crowds. Oh, and did I mention that they had several full bars, not just draft beer?
I'll send you an email. I sent you a LL show from the Beachland, but it's been a long time and I no longer have your postal address. Every time I turned around, someone was handing a program to me, so I'll be happy to pass on a copy to you. I got one autographed by the members of Los Lobos. Conrad L. drew a mustache on David Hidalgo's pic! :)
BTW, W2W also has a sister festival in NYC. And the whole concept seems to be catching on because one is also scheduled for Adelaide, Australia sometime this fall. There were a lot of interesting performers I wanted to see but I had to miss some of them... so it goes. Hope you get to see a Lobos show soon!
p.s. I just thought of something else to add! When I went out to a coffee shop, there was a club across the street where a band was doing its soundcheck. I stood in the doorway and listened. It was Umphrey's McGee! The bouncer didn't know who it was; he just said the show had been sold out for weeks.
