WWOZ announced the passing of Willie Tee.

Wow, wasn't he just touring the Northeast?

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fans.

Wow...the news today keeps getting worse. RIP Willie. So glad I caught him at that free show Thursday before the second Friday this year.

Oh no.

This news is NOT good. :(

Right after the passing of his brother, Earl Turbinton.

Sigh.

Man, go see live music while it's still being made and played.

Another GREAT one, gone way too soon.

We will always have his musical legacy, but dang! I hate to see him go.

This is truly sad. I just saw him playing all over the place at Jazzfest and the Ponderosa Stomp. He had a unique style. And yes, right after the passing of his brother.

yyr, he was the featured performer at fanfest.....good thing scott aegis
at the jazzfest foundation pushed for this...
he was such a professional....the sound of his keyboard was messed up
most of the nite, and handled it so diplomatically.

So frickin' coincidental:

I surfed to Willie's web page, and look what I found:

From November of 2005... Joe Zawinul and Willie Tee in Vienna, Austria.

Mmmm. Mourn his passing, celebrate his life and life's work.

I thought the comment (I'm paraphrasing) "Bring New Orleans musicians flowers now and hear them play while they are still alive" was great. I'm just going to have to do that late in October.

Does anyone know if Willie had shown up at any of the NOSC road shows. We saw him there at JF and they'll be coming around here the beginning of next month.

Wow, this news seriously sucks. His song "The First Taste of Hurt" has become one of my favourites on the New Orleans Social Club CD. Damn!

This is a must-read from Steve Allen, who played sax for many years in the Rita Coolidge band ... down in the comments:

Thanks for the blog link. I just heard and came here because I knew you would all be here too. I am so sad for his already grieving family and many friends. Willie T's passing is a loss to all of us who love New Orleans music, hell everybody who loves music. .
"Bring New Orleans musicians flowers now and hear them play while they are still alive" Yes indeed. Life is too fragile to think there will always be the next tour.
