Hello Robert, the lineup this year was a little weak for my taste in music.
Are you going this year? If so, please post a review.

Fred ,I felt the same way about the line up ,but any excuse to go to Austin is good enough for me.There are some good performers and a lot I have never heard of, so I plan on just meandering around till I hear somthing I like.

We'll be going for the first time, looking forward to visiting Austin and also checking out a new (for me) festival. I agree with Swag that the lineup isn't as spectacular as last year's, but I'm sure I can find plenty of music to keep me happy...there are several "newer" bands I haven't seen, so that should be cool. DBT's Patterson Hood (PdKKers groan to themselves when I mention the Truckers:rolleyes: ) will be playing a solo show, and I'll be at that one for sure.

Here's a hot tip I got from a friend: Post-ACL festivities featuring some mighty fine funk!
http://www.funkybatz.com/sites/38396/images/aftablastas9-07-poster2.jpg
That special guest on Satiday night is purported to be Big Sam's Funky Nation - but you didn't hear it from me.
Be sure to tell 'em freebo sent ya. They'll charge you extra. ;)
Just kidding!
But: I ain't kidding about these after-Fest shows. Get yer back field in motion, and get on down to some funky sounds... You won't regret it!

White Stripes cancel ACL show
9/11/2007 11:49 AM
By: News 8 Austin Staff
The Austin City Limits Music Festival just lost one of its headliners.
The White Stripes won't play Saturday night. Concert promoters cite medical reasons for the cancellation.
The White Stripes were also scheduled to play Sunday at Stubbs.
There's no word on who will take their place or if the lineup will just be shuffled. Arcade Fire is also playing at the same time on the AMD stage.

Yeah, I was just coming here to post that. Seen 'em before, but it's been awhile, and wanted to see how they sounded these days.
The late-night tip sounds like a party, that's for sure!

I swore off ACL fest after the third year when it was over a hundred every day. This year-only 90! Maybe even 89! doable! ANd i would looooove to hit the funkfest afterwards. Almost went to the July funkfest this lady put on. Someday.

An odd excuse to cancel a tour
Just hours after it was revealed that the White Stripes wouldn't be performing in Texas this weekend, the band issued the following statement:
"The White Stripes announced today that they are canceling their forthcoming tour due to health issues. Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time.
"The White Stripes sincerely apologize to their fans. 'We hate to let people down and are very sorry.'
"Fans can obtain refunds for their tickets at point of purchase."
All of the band's upcoming American shows are off. Dates scheduled in late October and early November in the UK are still scheduled, for now.

Horrible news here
Two people were critically injured after a propane tank explosion during the Austin City Limits Festival at Zilker Park Friday afternoon.

Two propane tanks exploded behind the AT&T stage, according to the KXAN Austin News crews on the scene. Also, a trailer there has caught fire, and portable bathrooms have been melted down.

Other festivalgoers received second- and third-degree burns, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jim Evans.
Organizers stopped the music and cleared an area in front of a nearby stage.
The festival is named for the popular national public television show Austin City Limits, which has been airing since 1975.

:( Sad......
The Austin paper reports (http://www.austin360.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/music/entries/2007/09/14/fire_at_the_acl_festival_groun.html) that “It all took place in a working area for employees only in the back perimeter,” said Troy Officer, emergency services coordinator for the festival. “No patrons were ever in danger. The crowd was great, assisting officers setting up emergency tape. The immediate area around the fire was cleared within minutes.”
Comments on that page say the music was playing again in under an hour.

Please post a review if you have time.
Starting to kick myself for not going. Maybe next
year.
tybeedawg: How was your first acl? Was this your
first trip to Austin?
I can see myself living in Austin in the future.
tcloud: This must be your 4th or 5th acl. Any new bands
that we need to see? I trust your taste in music.
You were the first to tell me about Del Castillo a couple
of years ago.
