Goddamn, I haven't checked their websites yet, but I bet Big Sam/Trombone Shorty and/or PGF ain't continuing up north to Boston.

Big Sam has a gig in NOLA the next day.
PGF's site shows them being at some place in Boston I never heard of (Copperfield's?) on 11/9, but doesn't show them in NYC on 11/8. Maybe their website is not up to date.
I guess one out two ain't bad, but MAN I love me some Big Sam!!!

Hey Bonnie -
I'm laways lurking here and there. As much as I hate to admit it, responsibility has caught up to me somewhat. I am already booked for first weekend in 2008, though!

Cleary is playing at the Town Crier in Pawling, NY on Friday the 14th. Made tentative plans to see him there as it is easier for me than going all the way downtown. The Big Sam show is tempting though.

Turns out Rebirth is also on this bill so it might be a great Pre Fest warm up, however I'm having trouble pulling the trigger on this one as it is so far in advance and tickets are $64 plus ticket master charges. Does that seem expensive for this show? I know it's NYC but come on. I saw Dr. John (in the first row) at the Paramount in Peekskill a few month ago for $40.

I have just been there once to see Tea Leaf Green and I liked the Blender. It's small - maybe it holds 600 people. It's a converted movie theater so the floor area in front of the stage is sloped upwards which makes for good sight lines (although it adds to that staggering feeling if you're drinking alot. I kept feeling like I was off balance). The seats are still in place in the balcony. The bars are easy to reach, I was drinking Stella's and they were $7.
I think it's a Live Nation venue (formerly Clear Channel) that would explain the high ticket prices.

They do have general admission seats for alot less - would this be the area in front of the seats by the stage? I'd rather stand in front of the stage and move than sit in a seat behind a bunch of people. Maybe I could get Tuba Phil to sign my Congo Square poster. Hmmm.

They added another Aretha Franklin Show at Radio City on March 21. Tickets on sale at noon.
Van Halen w/ David Lee Roth at the IZOD center (formerly Continental Airlines Arena) on March 13th. Tickets on sale at 10 am.
Just a note for people who don't live up here - you can see the huge red IZOD letters they put on this building for miles away - it looks absolutely rediculous. Continental bailed because the Devils are playing in Newark now and the Nets are leaving for Brooklyn.

Anyone happen to see The Charles Neville Quartet @ The Blue Note either night this week? He played there on the 27th & 28th. Review anyone?
Also, the Henry Butler dates at Iridium, listed above, include some interesting guests, if you will. Also scheduled is Donald Harrison ( Nov. 29-Dec. 1), Dr. Michael White (Nov. 29), and Kermit Ruffins (Dec. 2).
Jazz At The Lincoln Center hosts Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Paquito D'Rivera (Nov. 30-Dec. 1).
got an email that says- Standing Room tix have been released for the 6 Neil Young shows at United Palace Theatre 12/12 & 13, 12/15 & 16, 12/18 & 19

I really wanted to see The Charles Neville Quartet but couldn't make these mid-week performances.
I did make it to Henry Butler at the Iridium Friday -- awesome shows, stayed for both sets. Kermit wasn't with him that night. Harrison played the entire two sets, they opened up with straight jazz numbers -- I was figuring Butler would do more blues, but I think he wanted to show he can do standard jazz at a premium NYC club with the best of them, and he did. They did a really nice version of "Bye Bye Blackbird'' in the second set. Anyway, the "New Orleans'' flavor took over when White came on stage -- midway through both sets. They played more blues and ragtime and had the house swinging.
I'm sorry I didn't give any notice to the Threadheads I've met in the NYC before. A friend nabbed tickets the night before and demanded I take the next day off a work and get down to the city.
What can I say? That is what friends are for..:)

Thoroughly enjoyed Henry's show on Friday too. We were lucky enough to get seats where we could actually get up an move at the side of the stage. We were kind of behind Dr White and wasn't sure that would be cool. But during set break he thanked us - "after all, it is dancing music" .

Missed you! The Junco Pardners shows both at Mexicali and the 8x10 were Huge fun with a little of flavor from everybodys own body of work...and some general NOLA tunes (will try and get a semblance of a set list) and will definitely have the photos up tommorrow.
The guys had a good time and I think they even surprised themselves with what they laid down ....they were exhausted.... as they left it ALL on the stage. There were jam moments that were so soaring and they were so in a groove it awed me.
It was added sugar in my tea to see Barry and Nancy in NJ YAY and a humongous happy surprise to see Sha Jules and the Other Denise at the 8x10. I went on my own not expecting to see freindly faces and it was so awesome to spend some time and some hugs and some laughs YAY!!
Thanks for having my back girlfriends!! Next time there is a road trip in the works give me the 411 :)

Haha you shoulda figured that I would be there. Yeah tough call and when would be last time GPjr was within 150 miles and I wasn't there?? I don't think you could even get odds on that one. And BTW who's in for PBS post Mule on the 29th?
Ok wow I should really start writing down set lists Sorry? (In not right order)
Set I
By Athenish,Sugar for Me,Nora's House,Runnin' Pardner
War Song
and about 4 more?
Set II
Bap Bap, No More Okey Doke,.He Bite Me(The Dragon) Purple Haze, Doodle-Oop
and more??? Barry??? Help me out here?
at the 8x 10 She Said and Down by the River are two additions I recall?
the pics are on my shutterfly page

Anyway personally for me the highlights were definitely in the jams and the solo's by each musician that MADE IT CLEAR there was amazing TALENT in the house and the obvious goodtime that was happening on the stage! It was infectious and we all got infected.
sorry honey, no help here. we were toasted. Did love they way they played some from each group, spread it out real nice.

Any threadheads interested in seeing Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas this Sunday night at Connolly's? Yours truly plans to be there. :-) What's the odds of my finding on-street parking on a Sunday night in the 45th & 6th area? Or would I be better off taking the LIRR from my sister's house near Little Neck?

I know I will enjoy seeing them at the fest but I couldn't handle a show at MSG anymore. I don't know how to watch music from a SEAT anymore! We saw Panic at Radio City a few months ago and it was almost painful the way security kept clearing the aisles and keeping you at your seat.

that's EXACTLY what I said when I saw this post. Saw Eric Clapton and Robert Cray (D. Trucks was with Clapton) last year (hmm.two years ago now?). Great SEATS - and when I stood up the couple behind me didn't say a word - they went and got SECURITY !!! I was speechless. I just asked the guard if I could move to the back of the seating area - but the door and jam out. He was pretty cool - but eveyone was on their butts.....
MSG is not a venue....it's a musical prison.

Dugan is working late tonight, I am afraid. We are thinking of hitting the city Saturday, but looks like Lettuce will be packed (or is that packed Lettuce?) so we might just lay low. We are house-hunting up here, and it's going slow, but we have one goal -- not to be NEARLY as MIA as Jazzy was when he was in the middle of his big move, which is why we are committed to NOLA, at least...:)

The Rads were pretty good last night....much better than the last time I saw them at Maple Leaf.
I believe they played their hearts out last night because there was a huge conference going on at B.B's which added at least 200 people to the room and they were all seated. The place was packed like the Rads shows used to be at B.B's.
A bit of partying going on backstage as well which didn't shock me. Poor Ken had to pull those lunatics out of the dressing room to get them back on stage.
Dave had a fan blowing on him so his hair was flying all over the place...thought I was at a Widespread Panic show for a second there. Pretty funny.
Missed ya at Delta Freak.
