I know that I'm sounding like my dad, but "They don't make shows like that anymore!"
...I just finished watching it too..lots of good memories:cool:

We watched it, too. It's amazing that I seemed to have seen all of the old shows considering it was at the height of my partying days. I do remember us turning off the music in the middle of a party and crowding around a television set for ninety minutes.

Great show! Obviously made with a real love for the original. We usually turned off the music and turned up the show too. Was a bit intense to watch while tripping, but we did that sometimes also.

Makes mw wonder why the show is even on anymore. Not even a shadow of the glory days. I miss Gilda & John too :(

That was fun to watch -- like everyone who has posted before, we used to have SNL costume parties too -- I am SO old. Everyone would arrive dressed as various SNL characters, but all he** would stop cold at 12:30 am when SNL came on the tube.

Four of us made conehead costumes and won prizes at several Halloween and SNL parties for best group. This was before anyone had thought to mass produce the latex rubber versions that eventually hit costume shops. We made them out of liquid insulation foam poured into cardboard cone-shaped molds -- once they hardened, we carved them a bit to make them look like the SNL coneheads. Put on sparkly capes, white makeup on our faces and covered the cone with a white pantyhouse that also held the cone on our heads.

Gotta laugh at how amateur that was, but no one had come up with a costume you could buy, so we really cleaned up that season.

I still have my Mr. Bill costume -- really just some red plasticene in a nice fat circle on a stick. Held it up to my mouth and said "OOOOOOOHHHH NOOOOOOO..." We thought we were really hip...not so much!

(I didn't realize until recently that Mr. Bill's creator is in New Orleans -- has his own section at www.nola.com.)

Don't doubt yourself, vw. All that was hip back in the day.

It is sad how that show has fallen. Having the hip new actor on pimping his new movie, trying to find a way to get him into skits, sucks. It seems the only thing funny coming from that show recently are the music videos/songs. there was a rap about 2 years ago, and this year Justin Timberlake had his D*#k in a Box tune, which was hilarious. I actually think he is the best guest they have had recently.

I loved The BEES, and the Candygram Shark and the nerds(gilda and murray) and samuri deil. Those were great shows. I don't even watch SNL anymore because I very rarely find it funny now.

I gave Jon the first season of SNL on DVD last year for Christmas. It's so much fun to watch! George Carlin hosted the very first episode. And the musical guests from that season were awesome!

Well being a baby boomer, I like to think we invented hip. And we're the keepers of hip. And sometimes when I see what passes for hip nowadays, I not only imagine this, I am SURE! OOOOOOOOOOOooooooo NOOOOOOOOOooooooo!
