I don't know anything about the Fest gig stuff but I would go see this guy. He should hit the club circuit if he hasn't already.
How do they do that?

The Festival respectfully limits applicants to bands living and working in
Louisiana, and those bands who lived in Louisiana up until Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita, but have not yet been able to return home. The mission
of the Festival is to preserve, perpetuate, and promote the music and
culture of New Orleans and Louisiana.
All qualified applicants may submit their press kits between
Sept. 1 and Oct. 15 to:
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell
Attn: Music Production
336 Camp Street, Suite 250
New Orleans, LA 70130
Be sure to include a recording, bio, photo, press clippings and contact
information. We do not accept EPKs at this time. We will contact all
groups that have been accepted to perform at the 2007 Jazz & Heritage
Festival once decisions have been made.

That is a great mission but they do not enforce it

Come on now..1st time I've heard that Joe Cocker, Bob Dillon, Smokey Robinson..etc..etc..came from..live here..or even Near here..
This man just won a contest where millions voted him as the most talented act in the country this year and I think the City and it's guests would LOVE him and his marvelous talent...
I have been going to the JazzFest most of my life..my sister and her kids fly in here every year from all over the country each year..
sigh..I know this is the place to let the area's talent shine but it's More than that..it's the Big Show and That's why you have Rod Stewart..The Allman Brothers Band (a band from Macon, Georgia), Steely Dan (BOTH from New York!)..and on and on and on..acts to help draw the crowds...
At least Terry is in MESQUITE, TEXAS ..our Neighbor..and not a "Yankee"..muhahahaha
I'm telling you he'd be GREAT

It's not us you need to convince. Even the headliners have to go through the application process (supposedly). There are some exceptions to the local rule, but most of them are people who are known for selling lots of tickets. Very few of the acts that occupy the smaller stages or the early slots at the bigger stages are from elsewhere.

NO!!!!!!!!
Now Cas Haley, that would be cool.
And if they booked Terry Fator, I'd have to seriously reconsider ever going to Jazz Fest again.

Yeah, I don't see Terry Fator fitting into the JF. Maybe the kids tent like MDFest said. Kidding or not :) that would be the only outlet for him.. at this Fest anyway.

Right there is his problem. He'd be pelted with empty Crawfish Monica bowls at JazzFest.

Some of the local acts, like Chris Owens, are really out of place but kept on the sked just out of loyalty. It's like saying they ought to carry the Martha Stewart line at Henri Bendel. It may be popular, but it don't fit.

I've never been a fan of that stuff, so I'd probably throw a full bowl.
mebbe we could have a 'reality stage'! AI winner, SYTYCD winner, PM winner, etc. Rosetree and Monica woulde be up front!

Well aren't you funny!!!!! (You forgot Corona :p )
....and no, I would take Miss Irma, the Nevilles, the Rads, Ms. Andersson, Bonerama, Rebirth, et al. over Ms Clarkson, Mr. Studdard, Mr. Hicks, Ms. Underwood, Ms. Sparks, and the dreaded Ms. Barrino any day of the week. (and I'm shocked to say that I knew those names off the top of my head)

That would be a stage that you could walk right up to the front of at any time. :D

I need a life!!
We are trying to get out more....I usually come home and collapse, exhausted, and watch TV and hang out on the 'puter. We go out on the weekends.
I take a lot of things for granted in this great city, but could you really do a 'tween week schedule for the whole year???? Corona, I know your answer ;) :p :D

Well, truth be told, I did watch the America's Got Talent finale, and I thought the ventriloquist/impressionist was unique and amazing! His singing impressions were spot-on, and you couldn't see his mouth move. However, I couldn't imagine him at JazzFest.
