I'm going to see Peter Frampton tomorrow evening. Has anyone seen him lately? If so, how was it? Did he do stuff from the Live album?

No but I saw him in 76, does that count? I had the hots for him then and dont want to tarnish that wild blonde hair, great looking man with a current pix. Of Course I don't look like I did then either and I can't avoid that!

I hope you have fun. My kids love the throat wa wa stuff. Of course Bon Jovi is their experience.

I know that my brother-in-law saw him last weekend opening for the Doobies in Georgia. If I talk to him before you go, I'll ask him and post.

Saw Frampton at last years Jammy awards in NYC. I and several others thought he was one of the best of a pretty impressive all star line up.. He can "definitely play that guitar thing fo sure and that ain't no joke" to quote a friend ....he did a mix of tunes including a few off the Comes Alive album...I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Heard a tune off his new release and was impressed. Funny thing, he lives here but never plays here, except with the Pops Orchestra....

Bry, he showed up at the GOV'T MULE show here in 2005 & jammed w/ Warren Haynes. But, you are right...sightings have been extremely rare. Didn't he win a Grammy this year?

He's always been a really fine guitar player and the songs are damn good. Just got overexposed. Used to see him every year up until Frampton Comes Alive hit big (he played the Schaeffer Music Festival in Central Park every year, 2 bucks a ticket..what a time) and they were some of the best shows I've seen.

Haven't seen him since but know people who have and they were very impressed. You should have fun.

found a website about the schaeffer shows...
http://www.fillmore-east.com/schaefer.htm

Beginning in 1967 and through the early 70's, the F & M Schaefer Brewing Co. sponsored concerts in Central Park. The concerts offered something for everyone.

At $2.00 for first come/first serve orchestra seats, the shows were popular and usually sold out. Hundreds would spend the day on line at the Wollman Rink to socialize and get the best seats.

Sadly, pressure from the neighborhood eventually forced the shows to the west side Piers and much of the appeal was gone.

Who needs 3 Days of Peace & Music when you could have over 100 Weeks of summer music festivals right in the center of NYC? Let me ask it another way: What'll it be?

A 3 day festival up in North Bumfuck; with overflowing porta-potties, lousy weather, closed interstates & 500,000 hippies walking around with fried minds and dirty feet
-or-
An inexpensive series of shows that ran for over 10 years in Central Park; with small, intimate crowds, a better variety of music and the freedom to pick which performances you wanted to see. - - -

From circa 1967-1976, The F+M Schaefer Brewing Company hosted / sponsored a series of concerts each summer at the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park, NY. After being moved to the West Side Piers due to residential noise complaints, these shows, like the brewer itself, disappeared from Gotham.

Say what you want about the producer; Ron Delsner, corporate sponsorship, big name breweries or performers & their labels - but I don't think anyone was getting rich on these gigs. Tickets were $1.00 each in 1967-1968, a wallet busting $2.00 in 1969 and a whopping $2.50 in 1975 (That's a mere $11.50 in 2005 dollars). Talk about your great summer jobs, according to Speedy Rosenthal, "Roadies in Central Park pulled in $15 a day & drank free beer backstage."

The series of concerts appear to be a virtual who's who from the artists of that era. There are some really unique double billings, so take a look. From the schedules I've seen, it appears there were usually 2 evening shows per day; 3 or 4 shows per week. Having been to the present day refurbished (Trump) Wollman Rink more times than I could count, the place looked a lot different back then. We're not talking the Great Lawn here; so attendance at this small outdoor venue was about 6-7,000.
Miles Davis with Monk
Zappa with Paul Butterfield
Chuck Berry, Byrds, John Lee Hooker
The Who
Benny Goodman

Thanks for all your replies. I saw the show last night and was definitely impressed. He played alot of his old stuff, as well as songs from his latest album, 'Fingerprints'. It seemed like the new songs were primarily instrumental. All the songs had extended jams and, believe me, he can jam. He played a 15 minute version of 'Do You Feel Like We Do' and then, as an encore, played a killer version of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'.

Yep, he was an original member of Humble Pie. Marriott called him when he quit Small Faces and got Frampton from the Herd. He was a member for a couple of years. That's also how he got hooked up with A & M Records.

I saw Peter Frampton most recetnly August 1st at the casino in Salamanca NY and in January 2007 in Elmira NY. He is still amazing. I know your show has been postponed but I assure you it will be worth the wait!

I grew up in the New York City area. I had the pleasure of seeing him many times at Madison Square Garden. My favorite memory was in 1976 opening night. His brother and parents were in the audience. After the band played their final encore he returned to the stage alone, sat at the piano and played for the first time anywhere a song he had just written "I'm In You" I have seen him more times than I can count since then. He is still doing songs from Frampton Comes Alive as well as some songs from his most recent album "Fingerprints" and the show ends with a beautiful tribute to George Harrison. Enjoy the show!

He played a private party hosted by one of the big sponsors of a conference I attended a couple of years back, and the I thought the guy was great! The same people have also brought in the Doobies, Styx, etc. and it's always been a lot of fun...except for that one year when we were treated to the REO Speedwagon experience. Hated them when they were hot; despise them even more now!

Here's something pretty cool: a 20+ minute live Humble Pie performance of Dr. John's I Walk on Guilded Splinters from 1970:
