As a Festgoer for the last 20 years I have reached retirement. I have decided this year to come back to New Orleans to visit the Gretna Fest. From the official website photos it looks like a very much smaller verion of Jazzfest. I like the look of this years artist lineup and the foodlist looks pretty good also! Any tips from previous visitors would be appreciated. I am staying on Canal St. Is it possible to get to the fest by RTA/Jet buses? Also is a chair a good idea as the old legs and back are definitely showing signs of wear.New Orleans twice in one year, ain't I the lucky guy.

Only dog, IMO, is JS w/ Mickey Hart, but what do I know? Somebody out there must love them! :)

Is that the same Clarence Carter who did "Patches?"

Went last year to this shindig. It was a good alternative to jazzfest. You still get the local acts as well as some classic rock. It was very laid back. I would bring a chair for comfort. We had a good time in the german beer village eating and drinking. I remember being at one of the stages enjoying Rosie while having New Orleans across the river in the backround. Very nice.

YYR, ukkeith, you are the lucky guy. And BIG congrats on the retirement. I've reached the point where I'm counting down the years til that big day--either 4 or 5. Wooo hoooo, hoot, hoot.

Gosh, rosetree, I'm stumped on that one. The only thing with that reference I can think of is that 80s Hair Band that had the MTV video. Oh, no...the earworm cometh! :)

Is the term "80s Hair Band" redundant?

Lots of folks swore they would never set foot on the west bank again after the sheriffs turned people back on the bridge after Katrina. Has that sentiment subsided?

I am pretty sure the African American population will not be out in large numbers at Gretna Heritage Fest. Kind of like Jazz fest. I for one have not forgotten what happened on that bridge and would skip the festival for that reason.

He also sang "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" with Elvin Bishop...I saw them at the Shrimp Fest in 'Bamer a couple of years back. They're OK if you like that stuff ( "We Built This City" was voted worst song ever on VH1:eek: )

Why can't they get somebody decent like John Fogarty, or Willie Nelson, or the subdudes, or John Hiatt or....
It's almost like they're afraid to have good music there, isn't it?
