Terrific video of Dr. John w/Brian Stoltz on guitar, I think. Some
great indian pics and some vintage clips of Dr. John, Pete Fountain,
and especially the legendary Danny Barker. I love this one:

Beatiful Jen...Thank you baaaybe! I loves me my Mr. Danny. There is a plaque showing where he lived until he was six across the street from Hotel Provincial, I make sure and burnish each time I pass by it.
Authentic New Orleans jazz is poor people in a nightclub, in a cabaret, a man with some money in his pocket and a beautiful woman, and he wants to get up on the floor. He wants to dance with her, and he don’t want to be on the dance floor getting out of breath when he’s dancing to it. He wants to talk to her while he’s dancing. So there’s no need of all this fast, out-of-tempo music. You don’t want to see nobody with no striped coats on and a straw hat on their head. You want some cat sitting in a corner with a derby stooped over his head. You barely can see his eyes, blowing that horn the way he feels!

thanx jen,..ya' got me started on viewin' a bevy of Dr. John stuff,.. a great way to spend a Sunday Mornin'...
stynger,.. it may be the old absinthe house but it sure looks every bit like the ol' Preservation Hall on St. Peter Street.... went to "see" Jon Cleary, George, Porter, and Walter Wolfman W. perform together there on the first Friday night of this years fest... heard em' o.k.,.. but "saw" almost nu-thin'... we got there jus' as they started and the place was full to the brim... the room is tiny and the stage is ground level and we were squeezed in back... afta' a full day of mostly front row thing at the fest, wasn't in the mood to squeeze up close... actually it would have been rude as hell with a crowd packed in that tight... may be the last time i make a visit to that joint,.. at least if a full house is expected....
check out Dr.John , Professor Longhair , Earl King , and The Meters all together on stage...

Paul I've been to Preservation Hall a number of times and if your last in you ain't seein nothing. And when it's that full that sucker gets hot. Still with so much history everyone should pay their respects at least once. No place like it.
I do think the Dr. John video is the absinthe house. though. It USE to be a cool bar to hear music.

hey y'all,.. please excuse my "pour" use of the Queens English,.. i said it wrong i guess...
"it may be the Ol' Absinthe House (was not really meant to be a question,.. more a poorly worded affirmation...) but" i didn't have a good story to tell about "seein'" music there (drank there plenty) so i transitioned into anotha' historic joint in the quarter,.. where i did have a live music story to tell... my bad.... and yes all those shots of the dudes hangin' outside the Old Absinthe House with the plague on the exterior wall and the sign above were clues even i could figure out...
sorry.....
the moral of the story that came to me in the form of a recent memory as I was watchin' a cool video filmed at the Old Absinthe House,.. don't attempt to "see" a show at the similiar lookin' Preservation Hall if ya' ain't either in early or are bothered by steamy sardine like conditions...

Dr. John paid us a visit at the world famous Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole last night. He had been slated to play a blues festival in pinedale, wy, but the festival didn't raise the $$ needed so the good Dr. rebooked to the moose, much to our good fortune!! It was a great show, very lively and funky. The band had a good time. The drummer said at one point that they've been playing nothing but festivals all summer and that it was nice to play in a smaller venue where they could actually see everyone that was there to watch. This ends up being the smallest venue they'll play on their summer tour this year, so well worth the price of admission. I'd only seen him at fest and crawfish fest, so the smaller venue was great, and we had a primo balcony spot where we could look down on the man playing as opposed to the usual looking up and not seeing much of what he does. Doh and I forgot the camera!!

Hey daddio,.. a smaller intimate venue you say??? ...
you sure you weren't at the Old Absinthe House instead of the world famous Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole???.... You've been known to wander in the past....

I think the big bull moose pulling a sleigh through the air above the stage and dancefloor kinda gives it away....DOH!! That's some good absinthe!!

Yeah, it's too bad we didn't get a pix of that big moose and santa's sleigh hanging over Dr. John ;)
