Hi, Threadhead Nation -
I just received this from the Gulf Restoration Network and thought it might be something we all could help with . . . party animals that we are! ;)

"Do you remember where you were on August 29th, 2005, when New Orleans' natural and man-made flood defenses failed? I do, I was watching CNN from the kitchen of a relative stranger in Lafayette who would soon be providing food and shelter for a far longer duration than expected to my wife and I (as well as our cat and dog).
Can you help us remind people of that moment by bringing together your friends and family, watching a movie, and helping ensure a sustainable recovery for New Orleans?
The second anniversary of Katrina's devastating landfall is less than a month away yet the people of Louisiana are still in hot water. With Hurricane Dean threatening the Gulf, the Army Corps of Engineers is hurrying to complete repairs to the extensive levee system protecting southern Louisiana, but little has been done to secure the wetlands and cypress forests, which are an essential buffer zone between powerful storms and humans/wildlife who reside along the Gulf Coast.
It's up to you to remind our nation and its leaders that the people of the Gulf Coast still need help. This year on Katrina's anniversary join together with your friends, family, neighbors and other GRN supporters to speak out! Make a difference by hosting a house party (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=401655445&url_num=2&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsalsa.democracyinaction.org%2Fo%2 F713%2Fevent%2FdistributedEventSignup.jsp%3Fdistri buted_event_KEY%3D243) in your neighborhood and screening Washing Away: Losing Louisiana - the powerful documentary by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and award-winning independent producer Christina Melton.
Over 90 hosts across the country have started making plans for their events. Can you join them and help us reach 150 screenings across the country? Hosting a house party is easy - when you sign up (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=401655445&url_num=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsalsa.democracyinaction.org%2Fo%2 F713%2Fevent%2FdistributedEventSignup.jsp%3Fdistri buted_event_KEY%3D243), we'll send you everything you need -- a free copy of the documentary DVD, a fact sheet that will help you introduce the DVD to your guests, and a "party pack" with Louisiana party favors for your guests.
As a "thank you" for hosting, you will receive a FREE Gulf Restoration Network T-Shirt, and the top 5 hosts who garner the most RSVPs along with the 5 hosts with the most successful parties will receive a FREE copy of Marsh Mission, a breathtaking book of marsh photographs and paintings by Louisiana artists C.C. Lockwood and Rhea Gary.
