Based soley on first impressions, Obama reminds me of the guy who lives next door to you who brings back your hedge clippers on Saturday and thanks you for letting him borrow them. Hillary is the old lady who keeps baseballs that get hit across her fence into her yard.

I remember my first time, I must have been a 7 year old.
We stayed at the St. Charles. We had a suite as big as our house.
I remember the party down the hall, guys chasing girls around the halls. "Yee Hee !!! I see your fuzzy !!!. I asked my parents about that, no answer.
I remember eating at Kolb's across the street, way more fancy than any place I'd ever had dinner.
LSU v. Tulane in the old stadium, my first LSU game, will never forget the drunken yats in front of us, TFF.
A walk in the FQ, I was fascinated with the My-O-My club. Guess I was a perv even then. And the toy stores on Royal, I was wishing I had a million dollars to spend.
Those were pretty good first impressions ln my NO memories...

I think an African/American can be elected President one day but not one who looks like he just started shaving. I think a woman can be elected president bit I don't believe Hillary Clinton is that woman. I also believe the Dims have it in their power to blow this thing and elect another Republican to the White House. I like Bill Richardson but I don't think he has a chance.

Not a problem...the directions I was given assumed I knew that Miss Lena and Diamond Cutter Krewe were one in the same. Being this was my second JF, I wasn't privy to that insider stuff.

Hillary will be our next President because she has Hollywood and the 55 electoral votes that come with it. That's 20% of what is needed to win the Presidency. Obama is a non entity out in the land of golden jail cells and 1/2 day rehab centers.

Yikes! I never thought in that direction! I guess to the Hollywood left, in Seinfeldspeak-a Black president; "Not that there's anything wrong with that".
I gotta disagree Frosty. People seem to forget that she was the most villified first lady since Mary Lincoln. After 7 yeas of being spoon fed fear by Carl Rove and the Repubs, I don't think '08 is going to be Hillary's year. Another factor nobody mentions is this little jewel. If Clinton was elected, that would mean for the last 20+ years the WH will have been occupied by members of 2 families. That kind of small fact scares the bejesus out of a lot of people.

Yes, but it's been awhile since Cali elected the pres! I could get behind a Hillary/Obama ticket . . . Of course now I'll be voting in a very red state so it probably won't matter. Last thing I read indicated this election may turn on the Southwest states and the immigration issues (of course that could easily change in the next year, economy may become a big issue with this mortgage disaster . . .)

I agree with Frosty on the numbers presented about Hilldog's supporters. I don't even think she'll get the nomination. Outside of New York and the cocktail parties of the Hollywood left, people see her for the transparent fraud that she is. God Bless you Melissa Etheridge. Keep the faux liberals squirming

Obama seems like good guy, but I think he jumped into the shark tank a bit to early in his career. His whole would, wouldnt, might under the right circumstances, maybe not response to the Nuke question is going to follow him the rest of this campaign.

Can't say I disagree Mangoon, the choices are just not great, any way you look at it. But I think it'll be the lesser of the two evils, as it has been the past few elections (maybe we can actually pick the lesser this time around, haha!) ;) I really like a lot of things about Obama, I love that he has his own thoughts and responses and isn't just spitting out the "correct" thing according to political analysts like I think Hillary is, but the lack of experience is going to be a problem. That's why I'm liking a VP possibility for him, give him some time to season and learn . . .

Obama, who is a terrific public speaker, is a relative unknown to much of the country and he is not polished at debating which for some reason is what people want to elect. Although, debating polish has nothing to do with leadership. Hillary and Bill were both deeply disliked inside and outside of their own party in 200, but, look at Bill's return to rock star status lately. Hillary is there as well. The Dems who wanted nothing to do with the couple 7 years ago, are showing them lots of love these days. As far as the Republicans, their top player is disliked by the base so I see a split there. Rudy's people will be just as likely to vote for Hillary as for someone from the far right wing of the party. Look for Hillary/Edwards or Hillary/Obama to be the next President/ VP.

Right now I'm going with that prediction too Frosty.
Though, IF we get stuck with a repub (shudder), at least Rudy is (or was . . .) pro-choice and pro-gay rights . . .

DENNIS MILLER: Well, listen, I read Hillary's book, because like I said, I like to see all sides. And all I remember is I got to that chapter where she said she had no idea her old man was running around on her, and I remember thinking, really? I'm pretty sure you're not smart enough to be my president. Because that is a massive Macy's balloon sized tea leaf that you failed to read there, honey.
So I wish her well, and if I was Obama, I'd keep my head on a swivel, because going up against the Clintons,is like going across the middle on Ronnie Lott (ph). You better stay away, Obama.
Sorry, but this gave me a belly laugh when I heard it.

The only difference between Hillary and Cheney is Hillary realizes you can get away with screwing people better with a smile than with a scowl. Her campaign to date has demonstrated a total lack of forward thinking and she has been ruthless in attacking her opponents (especially Obama), but she looks nice in a business suit and make up. I expect the same from her once she gets elected. Obama at least offered hope of a better future.

I learned that Bill is not trustworthy, and I certainly don't trust Hillary. I have direct evidence that she is willing to lie for the sake of expediency. Living in upstate NY, I see her as a shallow opportunist.
Neither do I trust Guiliani.
I don't know enough about Obama (yet).
McCain used to appeal to me, but it's too late for him now.
None of the other candidates excite me. There's no one currently running that I would "volunteer" for.
Before discussing ideology or policies, I first need to believe that at least some of the candidates would not be incompetent in running the government (think K*trina response, misconstrued "intelligence" re:WMDs, the Attorney General mess, etc.). Then, from the ones that I feel would be competent, I'd consider their ideology and positions on the issues that matter most to me.
So, which of the candidates can I count upon to be competent in running the government? I don't see any.

I get excited when there's an election year coming up. It's at least, theoretically, a chance for change. And we need change. While our system isn't hopeless, the choices aren't that thrilling right now.
I think I'd volunteer for Obama. He's captured my imagination and hope for change for now, too early to throw in in the towel . . .
I think it's good to be informed about hurricanes too. And I may need some info on hemmroids in a few months (thought I'm sure hoping I don't get those, I know it's common with pregnancy) ;)

Hey, Dank - DON'T diss my Ronnie Lott!!!! Dems fighting woids :p
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I went to a rally in Reno a couple of months ago to see Obama and I thought he did very well . . . so what if he's not the most polished debater, that isn't any sort of indicator as to competent leadership - Nagin was behind in his re-election last year until after the debate, where he reportedly debated Landrieu's arse off . . .
I'd actually be interested to see a ticket with the ONLY two candidates in either party who are talking about dealing with poverty in this country and that's John Edwards and Barack Obama.
I sure as hell will NEVER, EVER vote for a Mormon, even if he is from my native state of Massachusetts and the only thing Rudy's really got going for him is 9/11 and terrorism, as apparently he was not universally beloved, admired or even very well thought of as Mayor in N.Y.C. before 9/11.
And what's so wrong with being a Liberal??
Definitions of liberal:
broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant of his opponent's opinions"
having political or social views favoring reform and progress
tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition
a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties
big: given or giving freely; "was a big tipper"; "the bounteous goodness of God"; "bountiful compliments"; "a freehanded host"; "a handsome allowance"; "Saturday's child is loving and giving"; "a liberal backer of the arts"; "a munificent gift"; "her fond and openhanded grandfather"I'd MUCH rather represent the above than be a close-minded, self-centered conservative like so much of our country, led by our government, has become. Bring on the free beer party - I not only can find it, but can run it and I'll welcome EVERYONE to come and be included!!! :D

Rat own sister! I like Edwards as well. He's done a lot of right things and he's been talking about the right issues for a long time. He's already being ridiculed by Rush Limbaugh so he must be scaring the "right" people. Had he been the nominee and kerry the VP in '04, they might have won.

Pardon me for interrupting, but if I'm not mistaken, the above quote may be attributed to former president Abraham Lincoln.
Who is Larry King? Some guy with a microphone. Do you think he will be remembered for doing anything in 144 years?
What about Dennis Miller? He used to be a comedian who pretended to be someone with a mike on a TV show called "Saturday Night Live". He was a poser who was a pale imitation of Chevy Chase.
Michael Corleone? He was a fictional character in a novel written by Mario Puzzo.
So, yeah...I guess it all is pretty funny.

So, yeah...I guess it all is pretty funny.actually, it was Sun Tzu-not Abraham Lincoln who said it. There's a big difference too between Chevy Chase & Dennis Miller. Dennis Miller is funny. Chevy Chase left SNL, did Oh Heavenly Dog, Vacation ll, the Fletch movies, and had a talk show that lasted less time than Larry King's vacation.

This is why as a person who considers themselves a open minded righty, i tend to refrain from getting involed it political conversations on this board.
The Dennis Miller thing was a JOKE, I found it funny. If its not , I'm sorry. As an open mined righty , I read the other recent joke thread that was a little harsh with the right jokes, and I mostly laughed. I dont recall seeing any nasty or sarcastic responses on that thread.
Sorry , I understand that most people on this board lean towards the liberal end of the spectrum, and thats totally cool. I dont always agree with alot of the political views here, but I do respect all view points, and on occaision have had some questions put in my mind about some of my beliefs, based on some counter opionions I have read on this board . Thats a pretty cool thing, I think.
I think we can agree to disagree with each other on some issues and still keep it civil and friendly and even handed. Sorry for the mis-spelled ramble, have had many cocktails, hope it makes a little sense.
