Caught Tab Benoit and Anders Osborne in KY @ a MountainStage taping this past Saturday (8/11)...the show will air around October 5 or so for those that have MountainStage on their NPR affiliates...
Tab led off and did a good 30 min. set of mostly Louisiana blues songs...Leon Medica was on bass with him and I didn't catch the drummers' name...good set. Anders came on next to last before Kim Ritchey and did a very good 40 mins. w/Tim Green, Kirk, and Doug Belotte...did three songs...Dumaine St., Katrina, and a 20 min. "jam" on "Boxes, Bills and Pain" on which Tab came out and joined him.
Got to spend some time with Tab, Anders, Tim, etc. after the show...they talked about the great crowds they had in B'more and NYC (Anders), and Tim mentioned how thrilled he was that they seemed to have as many folks as EW&F at the B'more gig....band was tight, AO seemed in good spirits...someone needs to buy him a 2nd guitar strap! Tim made a comment to me after seeing who was on the bill with them (mostly country/folkie guitar players...other than Tab...) that they thought this would be another gig where they "wouldn't fit in...." Highly enjoyable night, kind of a mini-festival...our 2nd time catchin' a MountainStage taping (saw DDBB and Bruce Hornsby last year in C'ston WVA). If they're ever taping near your town...go check it out...cheap tickets, good music, and they all get on-stage for a final "jam" at the end....if you yell especially loud, you MAY even get on the recording...
