What bands should be booked?
The comitee always does an amazing job, but I's like to see more women singers, maybe an allstar band featuring Kim Carson, Susan Cowsill and a few others.

Last night of FQF, we wandered into Preservation Hall and Glenn (David) Andrews was leading a fun band that included members of NewBirth, Rebirth, DDBB and New Orlean Jazz Vipers. Something like that would be cool especially if James and Troy join in. (Although I suppose most of those groups will be busy playing elsewhere in the city at the same time)

I am on personal quest to catch the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars again..every year at Jazz Fest it seems that FOMS strikes and I have a conflict so they would also be great.

Of course, not making it to a patry yet, but admiring the past few line-ups all the same, I have faith in the committee to come up another special slate without any advice from me.

I think she meant there are some very strict rules laid down about the patry announcements, and those are at least 5 months away.

One note about Zydeco and Cajun bands at the patry. It's very difficult, you really must find a band staying over from first weekend or bands coming in early for the stomp, which means a big $$$$ budget hit for a private patry on Tuesday. Add in it's at the end of FI and the start of Crawfish fest, where they all show up at. :(

bb thanks for that splanation...
but i think amanda shaw lives in new orleans?
and some of the bands must live within a days driving distance, altho
this im not sure of...
also thursday nite is zydeco nite at rock n bowl, so the band that plays
there might be a possibility?

It is tough. And I'm not going to comment on '08 either.
But I will say that in '07 we contacted bands / agents for: Bluerunners, Geno, Riley, Nathan, Zydeco Force and a few others from Acadiana, those contacts will be tried again, I'm sure. Nuttin' gets my butt moving like the Zydeco :)

A note to all you seed planters: We do the best we can. Budget constraints are a factor (don't expect the Neville Bros.- but you never know...). Keep on posting your wishes, but understand they may well not be the final selections. Nothing wrong with wishing! We tend to not book bands that are novelty in nature. We tend not to book bands that are not universal in appeal. We do tend to book da funk. Wish on!

Personally I think each year's lineup is the best -- and then you guys manage to top it! Having been around a few people who book festivals in Canada, it's a tremendously labourious process to coordinate appearances, travel etc. within an artists' window of availability, not to mention keeping on budget.

But we know the process after having done it the last couple of years. It ain't easy and takes a LONG time to figure it all out. Bottom line is, whoever we have....the backyard patry will continue....no festival or club feel wanted. We try to book bands that fit that vibe as much as possible.

It is never too early to start rallying support for a Feast. Who is in for dinner at Commander’s during ’05 fest. Perhaps that would be too pricy for some and it would not be fair to be exclusionary. It could be Mandina’s, Acme, or ??? It would be a fun way to get together and meet each other and last fest proved I am terrible at getting the early start necessary for Luizza’s. It seems meeting during fest, which I will make it a point to do, still leaves everyone wanting to get to that next act. Dinner would be relaxed and much more slowly paced. I plan to do both weekends next year. What day would be the best to catch the most people. Yeah, I know, it is crazy to be talking about this so soon. I can’t help myself as my wife says I am an inveterate planner.

I am still going to do Commander’s as it has been two trips now that I have not gone. Something about the place just draws you back. I probably have had better food but it is very good. I have never had better service, bar none. The location, ambiance and overall experience of dining there just leaves me all warm and fuzzy. Carrie and I would love to have some company.

If we can generate support it would seem that plans would have to be made well in advance for a period like Fest. I know that I made some dinner reservations as much as three months early for our last trip and there was an occasion when I had to take a different time than first asked for as the restaurant already had so many bookings. Anyway, no time like the present to gather some thoughts and perhaps put something together. Anyone up for this???

Yes, and anyone that gives away the exact location is due for a severe session with Mr. Slappy. Right corona?

Here's the thread that got this started. The 2forthefest reply is very significant in the patry history that unfolds:

A little more history: The patry was started by 2forthefest who don't post much anymore. Evil half has a friend who has a house with a great backyard and he said , hey, can we have a little party in your yard on daze between? So the first patry was about 60 peeps and the music was kermit and rebirth. The next year: Kermit, rebirth, papa grows funk and gumbohead and?. This year: gumbohead, papa mali(he brought the hot8 brass band), underdawgs, radiators. Next year: We know this for sure. A good time will be had by all.

OK. I'll be the bad guy here.
All of ya'll's suggestions are welcome and appreciated. But please. Please. Do not "inquire, ask, etc" any acts about playing the patry.
The same group that began planning this patry 3 1/2 yrs ago is still planning it. It was and is meant to be a backyard party where friends (Threadheads) can gather and play.
We have committees; entertainment, food, guest relations, etc.
It has worked great for 3 years now.
Lots of people want to come to this party.
Everything is worked down to the last minute detail. Ya'll that have attended ANY of the patries MUST agree that they have been phenomenal.
Let the Patry Krewe do their job.
I guarantee it will be awesome.

IB, YYR, so right. The krewe does a great job and part of the fun for me is the reveal of the bands..one by one...and always a surprise at the last minute...and the FOOD. To die for! Pumpkin roll, berled crawfish, crawfish "monica"...

My career for many years is event planning -- our team puts together over 120 events of every variety across Canada every year. I could put the patry krewe to work anytime, y'all are that good! And you have no idea how much I enjoy going to a patry that I didn't have to plan, it's pure bliss!

Keep checking here, the announcements roll in a coordinated fashion Mac, and book the day of sale off or at least book a closed door "meeting" so you can register to get tickets.

The best I can do is promise that one of my personas will remain non-slurged. The troublesome part of that is that I would probably not be able to find him when the time came to call upon his services. I think Kinderkitti’s offer would be the best bet. I, despite the short distance, would be uncomfortable sending three drunken waifs out into the night in downtown NOLA without proper chaperoning. There is nothing worse than post-slurge distress brought on by contact with non-slurged meanies.

BOTN Barry. BTW. I am working on a menu. If they wanted all of us to eat the same thing that would not work. We need choices but the choices are limited by a preselected few the group chooses ahead of time. If I find this is not the case then I am thinking a group of ten to twelve-tops will be the way we go. All will become clear with the passage of time.

"The Slurged"
A poem by Swamp Girl.

The slurged slagger down Gravier
sturgedly from the Omni (to the manager’s dismay)
Glazing hazedly to the roof
To witness the proof
Of comradicals lungering, tied torkedly together
Flapping elbows like birds of a feather
(ahem…supplementals)
Barry dancing in speedo
Corona chalks it up to libido

Laissez le bon temps roule

BOTN Barry.
Gawd, I can't get the image of vascular netheregion restriction out of my mind. That is way far too funny.

LMAO!!! Freaks, freaks, freaks and I love you all :D Okay, thanks to Swampie for her offer to be the non-slurged crawl monitor for a night and to KK for the offer to go back in her Honda and to Ohio for the sense to suggest investing in a slurge protector. Although the thought of Baywatch Barry escorting us back to Hotel d'Slurge is too much LOL!!!

Yeah Nano, like breambob, I too slagger sturgedly in Nola after a night of slurged-out patrying. I'm sure there are a few more of us who have too. C'mon, fess up y'all cuz bream is right...IJDM :) (think I better e-mail thread to the Miss 2for or they are going to be lost soon ;-)

"The Slurged"
A poem by Swamp Girl.

The slurged slagger down Gravier
sturgedly from the Omni (to the manager’s dismay)
Glazing hazedly to the roof
To witness the proof
Of comradicals lungering, tied torkedly together
Flapping elbows like birds of a feather
(ahem…supplementals)
Barry dancing in speedo
Corona chalks it up to libido

Laissez le bon temps roule
from April 22
til Marci Gras day

It's time I'm slurgin' to New Orleans
I'm slurgin' to New Orleans
I'm going to need two bottles of rum
When I get through partying with you
When I get back to New Orleans
I've got my supplementals in my hand
Now, ain't that grand
I'm leavin' here befor’ long
Yes, I'm goin' to Gravier to stay
Yes, I'm slurgin' to New Orleans

I used to have some money
Till NOLA became my honey
No use for me to cry
I'll see Fest bye and bye
Cause I'm slurgin' to New Orleans

I've got no time for sleepin'
I've got to keep on dreamin'
The Omni is my home
Martha and Commander’s why I'm goin'
Yes, I'm slurgin' to New Orleans

I must admit to putting a pretty good hurtin' on the supply of cracklins. If you got there after me (and I was there pretty early) there **might** not have been any left. :) They were so addictive I couldn't bring myself to leave the gallery to go out to the studio area where RT was working. Speaking of pig, the Cochon De Lait Po-Boy was pretty disappointing at Satchmo. I dreamed of it all 4 hours on the car ride down, went straight over there and got one and it just didn't do it for me. It was a bit dry and didn't have the kick like the one at JF did.

Sorry to interrupt the smorgasbord! but back to one of the original posts, Did this girl play jazzfest about 3 years ago??? I remember being in the kids area with my daughter when I heard this strange sound coming out of the Economy hall tent. I was drawn to it, I think it was her?? Would have been 1st weekend. If it was I liked the sound!
And she would make a great addition to the patry. I'm going to do my best to make it this year! :D

Well I just listened to her and while I like the old-fashioned 40s genre, I'm not sure how well that would fit into the funk vibe of the patry. But then again, my top two choices were Tab and Trombone Shorty! TNT. ;)
