Hey Now Everybody, Matthew here. I havent been around too much lately, but I hope you all are doing well, and having a wonderful, music -filled summer. We have a good couple of daze coming up here in Salt Lake..... Tommorow is a free Galactic show downtown, (across the street from my neighborhood watering hole) and on friday, the one and only Neville Brothers will play an amazing little ampitheater on the campus of the University of Utah, which is were I got my degree..... As University campus rules forbid the SELLING of alcoholic beverages at the show, guests are encouraged to BRING thier own food and drink into the show with them, and enjoy a funk filled friday night under the stars!!! I think about Jazzfest and all the kind Threadheads I have met along the way often, and look forward to seeing you all next spring........ Best from Salt Lake City, Matthew

Hey MM...What an amazing couple days of music you are going to have! Enjoy!
Also, I noticed that the Rads announced a Utah date Sept 14th (in Park City, not sure how far that is from you in Salt Lake). :)
Matthew, it sounds like your summer is off to a fantastic start. I'm looking forward to your reviews next week!

Hey Now Friends!!! Strong set by Galactic last night, to an enthusiastic Salt Lake audience. The band seemed to really feel the groove..... A fine time was had by all. Tonight, the Heart and Soul of New Orleans, the one and only Neville Brothers! I will be sure to send a warm hello from the Threadhead Nation, and let Art, Aaron, Cyril and Charles know how much we are all looking forward to see them reclaim their rightful place on Sacred Sunday, with the closing set at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival!!! Have a funky summer, Matthew

HEY Matthew, hope your evening w/ the Nev's far surpasses mine on Monday past. Caught 'em @ the Mt. Winery in Saratoga but most regrettably, they played the opening set for Blues Traveler. YYW! (Yeahh Y'all Wrong!!!) It was sweet, sorta mellow & WAY too brief!

Hey Now Everyone--- Salt Lake City was treated to a remarkable evening of New Orleans funk and soul last night...... The Neville Brothers were in fine form, kicking the show off with a rousing "Fiyo on the Bayou" followed by "Love the One Your With" then into "Cissy Strut" . The entire audience was up and moving to the Crescent City groove. Indeed an amazing night of music here in Salt Lake..... Possibly the highlight for me however, when the show was over, I was able to say high to the Brothers and was telling Aaron how sorry I was about him losing his lovely wife Joel last year. He told me how he appreiciated the thoughts, and then I mentioned how Jazzfest just was not the same with out the Neville Brothers. He agreed, but then assured me that the Nevilles will be back in 2008, closing out Fest on the second sunday afternoon!!! It was the perfect way to end the evening, and I am already anticipating sharing more wonderful times with all of you then!!! Just wanted to share to great news with my Threadhead friends, and I hope you all have a funky summer. Matthew

Neville Brothers deliver tasty musical fete at Red Butte
By Stephen Speckman
Deseret Morning News
NEVILLE BROTHERS, Red Butte Garden, Friday
Smooth. Funky. Lively. Songs that make you want to rumba or samba. Music that makes you want to hold hands on a warm summer evening.
The Neville Brothers put it all on the table, from covers of familiar crowd-pleasers to instrumentals that satiated any hunger for long jams.
The brothers and others, eight in all, started a 20-song, almost two-hour set with a little "Fire On the Bayou," introducing sounds of sax and organ that hung around throughout the night.
A bass guitar and drum funked up the start of "Love the One You're With," mixing in a little Caribbean flavor with some starts and stops that gave this song an entirely new owner.
For "Voodoo Woman," the brothers mixed in a little wah-wah for the electric guitar and flipped on Aaron's built-in instrument, proving he can still do more than just play a tambourine.
Like a really good, spicy jambalaya with a side of chilled slaw, there was just the right amount of Aaron's super-high falsetto to fuel the show with equal amounts of hot and cool.
And my, oh my, how the brothers Neville, one by one, showcased 30 years of playing together that revealed nary a sign of faltering or slowing.
They gave us Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine," Bill Withers' "Give Me the Beat Boys" and "Use Me," Oliver James' "Long Time Coming," Peggy Lee's "Fever" and Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On."
So much soul for so many in such a beautiful setting as Red Butte Garden.
There was "Tell It Like It Is" and "Yellow Moon," followed by more jamming and dancing. People beat down by 100-degree heat this week were smiling, light on their feet. As Aaron's amazing "Amazing Grace" transitioned into Bob Marley and Curtis Mayfield's "One Love," a gracious crowd returned the love.
The boys gave no speeches nor offered any banter or political stands. On this night, they let their music do the talking — and, man, did it ever sing.
