Do they mean "buoyant" New Orleans based brass band?
As in, able to float?

I've had this one on my calendar for a month now. But, didn't know about the rain site. With more storms forecast to come through around 7 tonight, I was wondering what they'd do. Thanks for the phone number and rain info.

What a great time! My kids didn't really know what New Orleans Brass Band music meant but as soon as the bass drum and tuba kicked in, they knew, and their faces lit up. My youngest got up to dance right away and my oldest joined in after a few songs. The funniest part was when the mayor of Evanston presented a cake to two of the band members for their birthdays. She asked everyone to sing happy birthday and the band started to kick it New Orleans style. But, the mayor was singing it the usual slow way so the band filled in dirge-like to accompany her. When the mayor finished, the band kicked in and did it Kermit style (much to my kids delight). We all had a great time and I won a t-shirt (darn, I wanted to win the CD). And met a really cool lady from New Olreans who shared her jambalaya with us after the show. At that point, my youngest sat down in the lawn chair and wouldn't leave. She just kept saying "more music". I told her now she knows how mommy and daddy feel when we leave Jazz Fest every year. They are more excited than ever at going with us next year.
Great show, guys!!

Hey frosty, I saw those girls dancing, didn't know that was you! You could see they were having lots of fun. How great you were able to get them to hear some live New Orleans music in a park setting like that. I bought a cd.

As long as you didn't see me trying to dance, we're OK.
Were you up there at all?

well, maybe I did see the dad join in... looked like y'all were havin fun! I was in the back boppin, only came upfront at the very end to get a closer look. It was a very sweet scene, a nice diverse crowd, lots of open space, the sky cleared up, dragonflies overhead, and 10 members of Hot8 rippin it up.

High Sierra was super fun!!! Altho, it was very hot this year (it's always warm but was especially hot in the triple digits the whole time). Zydekitten and Denbear camped with our krewe...it was fun to have them! They were very tolerant of our crazy krewe. ;)
Hilites for me this year were: Dumpstaphunk (they blew the roof off the late night vaudeville tent), Hot 8, Mavis Staples, Anders (w/ Kyle from SCI on keys), Leftover Salmon, Carolyn Wonderland (amazing voice, sounds just like Janis) and the Sunday morning gospel show led by Papa Mali. The lineup was stellar this year. I took alot of pics (mainly artist pics) and will post them on the general music board as soon as I get them uploaded. :)

I totally agree with Cindy . . . it was a great weekend and she and her Gander (Mr. Goose/John) were SO welcoming to open their arms and campsite to us over a VERY hot and then smoky (from a nearby forest fire in the Plumas National Forest) four days!! :)
Dumpsterphunk and Hot 8 tore the tent up, y'all!!! The other acts Cindy mentions were excellent too - as well as That 1 Guy (OMG!!! He's invented and plays the funkiest new instrument ever!), Guy Forsyth (who was also a part of the Sunday AM Gospel Set with Papa Mali), and The Everyone Orchestra - a kind of super-jam band conducted by a great drummer and musician, who even includes the audience in the improvised compositions, which are incredible!
