As the night went on, securtiy kept me further away from the stage.

Great pics as usual. I also enjoyed the ones of Trombone Shorty in the square. Do you know who was on bass?

He certainly has the right words as a candidate.

Yeah, but words come pretty cheap on the campaign trail. (Not that I've heard anything any better from anyone else...)

Yes, they were from here originally, but, as I'm sure you are aware, they moved to New Jersey about 40 years ago!

The last time I recall them being booked here, they honored the performer boycott against the Queen City due to the cop shooting of an 18 year old young man in a dark alley who was running away. The I.B. didn't play, but James Brown stepped up to the plate. Not knocking the I.B., or J.B. for that matter. They both had their reasons and convictions.

I have never seen the I.B. in a live performance. Did they do "It's Your Thing" at Essence?

Glad you all liked the pictures. I much prefer shooting outdoor events like JazzFest--the light in the dome is brutal.

The crowd was smaller than I expected, and older and mellower. Maybe because it was Thursday? Plus two of the acts were the Isleys and the OJays. I thought Ludacris and Ciara would draw younger than they did (apparently).

I will be back today and tomorrow. I'm trying to get an actual pit pass for tonight, otherwise I won't get within a 100 yds of Beyonce.

Don't know who played bass at the Trombone Shorty show in Laf Sq last month...

Yeah I know, and remember the boycott. A shame that the population suffers not only the wayward coppers, but also the small bit of harmony the music would have brought. And bless JB, he never forgot where he began!

85 new ones--mostly Steve Harvey (who was hilarious) and Chris Brown. Beyonce closed the photo pit, so I didn't waste a ton of frames on long-distance shots

Here's the Saturday pics. I actuallly had a proper photo pit pass for all five acts, so some of these are pretty nice:

Kelly Rowland (Destiny's Child)
Ne-Yo
Lionel Richie
Mary J. Blige
Maze featuring Frankie Beverly
