Email update from Michael about next year's fest. Sounds great!

Hi Y’all

We have finalized our plans for 2008

We will add 3 National Acts on the DME Stage on Friday night. To attend, you will need a 3 day camping pass. These tickets will be limited and will go on sale Oct 15th. As a bonus, you will be able to camp until Monday at Noon.

On Saturday and Sunday, we will bring back some of our favorites and some new folks. Day tickets and 2 day combo ticket prices will remain the same. They will also go on sale Oct 15th

The Wyndham Garden Hotel’s Crawfish Fest rate in Stanhope will include shuttle bus for everyone staying at their hotel. I will be adding the rate and link on http://www.crawfishfest.com/hotel.htm in a few weeks.

I have been slow in answering some e-mail, I hope to catch up this week.
We removed the sausage from the online store for the summer, it will resume in the fall.

We are now booking our mini-Pavilions for private parties during the Crawfish Fest. Corporate Hospitality and Company picnics. Each pavilion can hold up to 250 people, with a minimum of 100 people each. These private parties will include catering by us and a cash beer/wine bar by the Frankford Township Fire Department.

The mini-pavilions are close to and perpendicular to the DME Stage. E-mail me if you or your company’s HR Dept is interested in your very own private VIP party.

If your in NJ or Eastern PA, you may be interested in this. Hot Tuna w/Oteil & The Peacemakers at the Bergen PAC in Englewood, NJ on July 22nd. Visit www.createavibe.com for more info

Have a happy and safe 4th of July

See you in 11 months

Michael

I'm definitely going the RV route next year. Being able to stay over Sunday night clinches it.

Michael, those SoCo frozen drinks are pretty hard to beat - I don't know if they sponsor events all the way up to NJ though...

Michael- for us campers, it would be nice if we could pay to have a tent set up for us. 20x20, 30x30, something. It would give us shelter if necessary, and be sort of like our town hall. Might be a pita- just a thought. Maybe make it part of a camping package- buy a block of X tickets, get a reserved space and pavillion?

Just to be clear, I wasn't able to attend during 2007, but I WILL DAMN WELL BE THERE for 2008.

Yea, thats a reasonable request, we can do a 20 x 20 in TH village on the pavement, You can decorate it, but have the decorations down by monday for our loadout. We are gonna re-do the website, I am thinking, When u chose your campground, chose New Orleans, But in the space for discount, Insert <THV>. That will move u over to threadhead village and i dont have to announce it on the website. This will not be mentioned anywhere except on these boards. I do appreciate the support,

so whats the secret of the black shawl???;)

On Friday when we are all settling in, we all did MANY jello shots. It was getting time to go in to the pavillion and hear the Pine Leaf Boys play. It was getting a bit chilly so Linza comes up to me with a black shawl draped over her shoulders and said, "Let's go in girl."

I almost fell down laughing and said, "NO WAY am I going in there with you if you wear that thing" We both lost it laughing and the shawl ended up being thrown in my tent and she wore something else. (not sure what...we were lit)

She reminded me of it the following morning and we laughed our asses off all over again. That poor shawl ended up with grass and hay all over it!

Where is it now Linza? Did you cats get a hold of it?

Wow, this thread has taken off since I was last on! Awesome news Michael! Thanks for the accomodations....seems to work out good for all of us, since you know we will do a lot of marketing for CFF and, of course, we only bring the best folk! ;)

Great idea Bri, about the only thing that could have been better about the past fest, was a communal hang out spot......

Would I be pushing it to ask if we could get a hot tub in our pavillion?????

Katie, crappy day, what are u and Jude up to??

Here is a teaser, i hope to confirm a food vendor i used to have at Waterloo Village. He does Jazz Fest, he makes a lot of dough there.
Happy 4th
Funny note, my buddy luc, who is one of my right hands at the fest is working in england for expedia, without thinking or being too bright, i asked what did they do on the 4th of July over there. He said they refer to it as the time we left them, lol

Having worked for myself for 16 years, I have learned there is nothing that can prevent someone who is really motivated from accomplishing his or her dreams. Of course, hard work, a quick wit, and a willingness to be creative when confronting challenges are among the very best assets of any successful person.

But now you got me dreaming about grabbing a couple dozen at the "Charbroiled Oyster" stand at your festival before heading over to the stage to hear some of my favorite music...I just hope someone else is dreaming about selling them oysters as much I am about eating them!

If not, well then...guess what I will plan to be cooking over at Camp Threadhead!

WARNING: Impending Thread Drift

Drago's of Charbroiled Oyster fame has opened a new location in the lobby of the New Orleans Hilton Riverside. So, if you don't want to drive out to Metry to get your Charbroiled Oyster fix next time you are in town, just head over to the Hilton. You'll smell the garlicky buttery smoke from a few blocks away.

Maybe the folks from Drago's can be convinced to take their show on the road to New Jersey next year. They were certainly a big hit at the recent Seafood/Cajun/Zydeco festival in the Quarter.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

I have the connections.
mort cooperman of the lone star roadhouse used to tell me, your only limited by your imagination and your checkbook, dreaming big has never been an issue with me. i learned a lot from that man. We had a Mardi Gras party there one year, so i hung this sign up, it said happy mardi gras and it mentioned a beer company. Mort found me and asked me who put it up. I said i did, he said, well , people pay me a lot of money to be identified with lone star and put up signs.. I asked him if he wanted money, he said no, i just wanted to teach u about signage. So every once in a while we talk, and i tell him what a great thing SIGNAGE is, lol

Having spent MANY late nights early mornings at the old Lone Star Cafe and the Roadhouse I can safely say you learned from one of the best. NEVER had a bad time at either place, great music, good food, nice people.

I sure miss those clubs. Unfortunately, thanks to NYC's ridiculous rents he became limited by the checkbook.

Mort taught me more than anyone. i have some pretty good mort stories.
He invited me to spend a weekend with his family. I am looking at some of his art, i passsed a lil drawing up quick, he said u dont like that, i said no, not really, he said thats good, u dont just look at the name, It was a Picasso, lol stupid me. Then he picked up this huge vase, he stuck his arm in it, of all the things he had, it was a prized possesion, he held it so i could read the bottom. "To Mort, From Bo Diddely" Bo is a potter, who knew? another time, me, mort and mark was in the club alone in the daytime. 3 guys walk in wearing trenchcoats, they dont say a word, but they all spread out and go in different directions, we thought it was a hit, then they started asking if mort was there. i grabbed my beer bottle just in case, the big guy reached into his overcoat, reached deep into a pocket and pulled out a demo cassette, he WAS IN A BAND, lol he wanted to play for mort, damned near gave us all a heart attack. The best night was a private party for Euro Traders, Chuck berry played, with johnny johnson on keyboard, it was awesome. i was about to get a cab, mort said they would take me home, i walked outside, there was a radio dispatcher, grouping people in town cars, I really wish i could get mort to come to NJ,

oh, and i just talked to chuck, we are adding dance lessons in the dance hall and some bigger fans or misters, we are talking talent for next year

Oh no... how could I forget about CHARBROILED OYSTERS!!! OMG... like dying and going to heaven...

give me oysters for breakfast, oysters for lunch and oysters and dinner and a snack, oh yea... raw, fried, charbroiled and in artichoke soup, or stew, on top of a salad, too. MMMMMMmmm

YOU are BRILLIANT!!! Excellent idea!... please go eat a few dozen for me!

Me and Rob of mexicali blues did a mardi gras party together a few years ago, we had Rads and PGF in an old theater in NJ. Luc and wild bill cooked jamblaya in 4 degree weather, how it cooked, i have no idea. Melissa and Jay (he checks you in at the 1st camper check in and he does will call) were working the front of the house for us, i saw them working, they were polite, but all business, they worked the ticket booth. I liked how they worked, so i hired them on the spot for the next year, they are both aweome and great troubleshooters. I think this was their 5th year,

The owner of the place was very unpleasant to us. So we left him a surprise. He was too cheap to have a dumpster. I had a bunch of king cakes left over, luc asked me what to do with them, i said i will take a few, bury the rest in the snow for the azzhole to pick up. He found them a month later, lol Luc used to be the assistant food director at jazz fest, i met him at clinton's 1st inaugaration in 93. They had brought me in to cook Jambalaya to represent NJ. Luc asked me how i was gonna decorate the booth, i said idk, give me an hour, when he called back, i said we would be a toll booth, he laughed, told me to give him an hour, he called back, ok he said, your from LA now that we got you in. And when i saw Luc work, we kept in touch and hired him too. Will bill has been cooking crawfish since the second year, his real job is he is an organic farmer. I met him thru his brother in law, who i had worked with. i think my talent is knowing who is really good and not being afraid to hire them. They make me look good.

a golf cart will prob be required in all future contracts, lol i had fun with henry and michael murphy, the film maker in seattle a few years ago. We watched LSU beat bama in the last few minutes. i filled in the extra color commentary that henry needed to " watch" the game. Yep, it was the Baker Ballroom, a great old theater from the early 1900's. Someone bought it a few years, not sure what they did with it. Even the inside was about 40 degree's they had an old oil heater, it just could not keep up.

Melissa, I have been recruited for next year, so there's one. Actually, I recruited myself, based on what I've seen here on this board.

Any festival endorsed by ThreadHeads is going on my "must attend" list. That's true despite the low standards of any group that would have me for a member.

I'm really looking forward to CFF2008.

Ok

I have kids that love music and hate being left behind and "hubby&me" who dig each other!

The oldest is graduating HS this year and plays in a band.

The middle one would dig it. He is the one we took to Bonerama

The daughter just wants to be with Mom and does love music but is young and would keep "hubby&me" from being the folks we are. LOL You do know what I mean.

We are so on the fence about bringing them...knowing they would like it but would I?

I hate these decisons. :D

I think we have to do what's right for us, Belle. We're there for our kids 24/7 for the most part. If we want some of our own time, then we should have it. They'll have plenty of time in their lives to fest.

One thing about CFF is that it is very kid friendly. Ask Brian. He has a ball and it is a big family thing for them! Camping is great for the kids and there are so many of us around that the kids will have plenty of others to hang with so you will have a ball!

Loralee is 11. Just starting Middle School, can't wait to play in the Jazz Band like brother. She plays keyboards and now is learning the Sax.

Loves all music, big Patsy fan (mom helped with that one;) ) She would have a great time.

Since Walker is graduating, we want to do a few great things together.....how you let go graciously is beyond me. Weren't they just born

Seems like you may be meeting the whole crew. Oh course the boys will miss the girlfiends.

We are extremely kid friendly.
We get a lot of under 14 kids. For the past 2 years we have had a separate kids stage, but its not a dropoff point. I think it does ok when i am passing by. Younger kids love the face painting.
We don't seem to get a lot of older teenagers
Sorta like going to the movies with your parents and not wanting to sit with them. It will be Brian's 3rd or 4th year camping with his family. I think he can give u a good perspective.

Just decided that the kiddios are not going in 08. At least the boyz. The whole NO music scene has yet to grab them. Of course they will have just gotten out of school (one will be graduated) and they have other things on their minds!!!! The daughter might come. But we will come sans boyz.

I have the faith they will "get it" in their own time. Now I know how my Momma felt regarding music. She always said,,,try it you might like it!

I can tell you have a great relationship with them. However, if I can remember back that far, they're more likely to get it if they get it on their own. It's just not cool to love your parents' music (until you get a little older).

Take the boys- they will find something they like to do. My kids(7&10) have been 3x and enjoy the entire experience. I dont think they have ever been to the kids tent- im afraid they wouldnt leave. Looking forward to the expanded Friday night lineup.
Just finished doing a 3 day river float and camping on the Potomac River. It was perfect because I didnt have to touch the stove once, and we ate (and drank) like kings!

what exactly is as river float MD....is that where boats tie up together in a lake and just camp out on the boats? If so, that's what we do here....if not, then please explain. It sounds intriguing and I've heard you guys mention those floats a lot on here. Sounds like a blast!

I have the Jet Boil too, and I also have a standard propane burner and good ole fashioned percolator. Feel free to stop by for a cup of joe.

now, i got my percolator for my campstove when i've got a crowd...but damn if it doesn't always boil over and end up with grounds in it!

Hey, don't make fun of us "hotel people". Actually, we had gotten into camping and hiking a good number of years ago, but then we moved to the country. When you can sit outside in the quiet at night lokking at the woods and deers and bears, you lose a lot of the incentive to go camping.

But we'll also have a small propane burner and will be boiling up water to make coffee so feel free to stop by or even ask to use it if needed.

So again be kind. As I told Michael in an email, here we successfully graduated from Jazz Fest school. Now we're "Festal Virgins" all over again! ;)

for those of you wondering how to get a good cup of coffee while camping at a festival, I have two words for you -

COOL BREW!

This is the same delicious beverage they sell at the jazzfest - coffee & chicory blend. I picked up a 32 oz. container at the A&P in the FQ for about 7-8 bucks when we were there in April. It fits great in the cooler for camping or festing, and is really easy to use - it is designed with a special spout that measures out 1 oz. serving. I use 2 oz for a 16-20 oz ice coffee. After I finished that container, I mail ordered 2 2-liter bottles, one regular, one hazelnut ( I wanted to get the French Roast but they were out of it... but its almost time to order some more,so maybe next time...) They are both really good, especially the hazelnut in the afternoon. The shipping charges were kind of expensive but came out to about the same cost per serving.

I am from the land of Dunkin Donuts, where people drink ice coffee all year round, and happily pay $2-3 for one. I love ice coffee, even in the morning so this was great for me - I drank it all weekend at Greyfox festival, and I enjoy it at home too. But if that's not for you, the Cool Brew makes great hot coffee too, just add boiling water & milk or cream & sweetener to taste. So for camping you still have to get the boiling water, but this is better than instant coffee, it tastes more real. It's really good iced with vanilla soymilk, too.

So it's like a coffee concentrate? Interesting.

Is it perishable? Once you open the container, how long does it last?

Thanks! I picked one of those up earlier this year at French Quarter Festival but lost it the next week in Florida. It was very convenient for ice coffee especially. When I got back here, I had forgotten the name of it and have been trying to find it locally. No luck.

Work the same way as a motor oil bottle that I have does....which dispenses just enough oil in the top chamber to mix with a gallon of gas for a two cyle engine.

yes its a concentrate. It's all natural no preservatives, so it is shipped cold. that's why it costs more for 2-day shipping. Maybe it;s less to ship to TX. But lasts about 2 months in the refrigerator. I'm having some right now!

yes I've never seen anything like it elsewhere. It is better than when you just brew regular coffee and leave it in the fridge, it has no bitterness.

Trying to work out some logistics Belle, but I am intrigued with all of the banter here about the fest, so I am thinking real hard about showing there. I stopped doing long distance shows years ago, so we'll see where this goes.;)

Great! I spoke to a great jewelry artist from New Orleans who moved to Pennsylvania a few years ago while I was at my show in Philadelphia. She was real interested in showing at Crawfishfest. I am also working on a potter who makes some real nice Raku' pottery....

ok, light bulbs are popping now. I can have the firemen pour a shot of vodka on ice in a commemorative cup, maybe 2 shots in a 24 oz cup, then step up to my make your own bloody Mary bar, with all the fixings, and we have ice cold V-8 juice premixed with my fave bloody mary mix, I will have someone cooking either made to order omelet’s or scrambled eggs, and bacon and grits, it depends if I can find a good fry cook,
