It's been awhile since I've been blown away by an unfamiliar act but I just saw Rodrigo y Gabriela live in Central Park and I've never seen anything like it.
A guy and girl from Mexico playing acoustic guitars in a style that I can only call heavy metal-flamenco/mariachi. All instrumental,High energy, absolutely phenomenal guitar playing and just a joy. Originals, a cover of Metallica's 'One', 'Wish You Were Here' (with audience sing along), Dave Brubeck's 'Take Five', snippets of Voodoo Chile and Smoke On The Water, and they actually manage to play Stairway To Heaven in a way that makes you think you never heard the song before. They had the crowd yelling and clapping and smiling 20 seconds after they started playing and never let up.

I can't recommend them enough. Truly an amazing and spectacular show.

Here's their site where I think you can see clips and hear them

Hey Scoop, I saw them on Letterman a few months ago and couldn't order a CD fast enough! The CD also came with 'how to' DVD for guitar players. Cheers.

I saw them last summer or early fall in Charlottesville. They opened for Los Lobos and they blew us away too.

This weekend at the beach we heard an hour long program on the radio and it reminded me to listen to the CD again.

They are very well know in the UK, Ireland and such. Like Scoop said check them out!!

Somehow I imagine many frustrated guitar players watching that DVD and attempting what they do.

My ears are still ringing and I'm still amazed at what they play.

Glad you and Belle like them as well. Hope all the TH's get turned onto them.

I can certainly relate to all that (substitute rent for mortgage).
