Hey...we just went for Saturday and I can't imagine that a finer day of music was heard anywhere else yesterday.
Found the threadhead setup near the main stage. Not overly packed but still a good size and fine crowd with an obviously large contingent of JazzFesters. Sort of reminded me of a nice lazy Thursday at Jazz Fest maybe 13 years ago.
Pine Leaf Boys and Geno set the table at the main stage.
Sonny followed and was magnificent.
Bonerama after Sonny, and they just keep getting better every time I see them. Finished with great covers of Helter Skelter and segued right into Frankenstein.
Although, I didn't think that the New Orleans Social Club was going to be able to top the Bones, well they invited the Bonerama horns and then Mark alone for some key numbers.
This was the best set of the year for me.

In fact, www.digitalsoundboard.net was there and pressed the NOSC (with Bones) set onto two CDS. We picked a copy and listened to the set twice more on the long ride home.
When it becomes available on the site...get it..it's a killer.
Oh Yeah...click on the picture above to go to my slideshow from day one...plenty of shots of threadheads and performers.
Later, I'm sure I can find a video clip or two.
mdFest took me on tour of the Camp Threadhead...looks like fun....we'll definitely be back!.

Sure glad (my used to be) far betta' half decided we shouldn't go this year (AGAIN).... i imagine i would have had to really struggle to enjoy that incredible lineup you peeps saw/heard ,.. and i woulda definitely have missed the 5 1/2 hrs. i spent cleanin' out my garage today... ya' wanna talk about a good time :( ...
did get to see the Neville Brothers put on a very fine show on an incredibly cool outdoor Florida evenin'... Ziggy Marley brought out a much bigga' crowd afterwards,.. they had decent food (great blackened scallops on a bed of asian pearl cous cous that more than deserved the 2nd servin' we managed to put down,.. and then they had a full on fireworks display to cap things off... also got to enjoy the company of four other dudes/dudettes who post here and made some new friends too... and thanks to freebo who absolutely saved the day by nuttin' us up ... my 1800 curevo didn't hurt none either....

Ooops, posted this on the other crawfish fest thread, but might as well put it here as well. Great to meet you and missus yesterday Michelino
Beautiful Saturday in Joisey......
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Woo Hoo!! Yesterday was my day and a grand time was had by all. Hot day, bad weather threatened but held off and many smiles and fun being had was seen. Oh and beer was consumed.
Threadheads sighted (please forgive me if I omit someone, others can fill in anyone I omitted due to excess beer consumption) Corona, Linza, Hatsjazz, Steeleye, Amy P and Jeff H, Swag, Michelino, Cisco, MDfest, Barry10016, Juls, Tangledupinblue and Jude, Jazzykeb, Gris Gris and I'm sure there are more.
Geno Delafose was execellent, Sonny Landreth was unbelievable (got a double dose of him, new songs sound great) Bonerama rocked as well, (Crosstown Traffic and Helter Skelter among the covers) Caught the end of Papa Mali with Henry Butler sitting in and Mel got there earlier and told me Ivan Neville sat in before Henry Butler. (sorry I missed that). New Orleans Social Club was also fantastic (they had Bonerama horns join them on a few songs) and as good as they were I had to pop away and catch Hubert Sumlin (Howlin Wolf's original guitarist) since he's getting up there in years and and you have to catch the legends when you can. (Papa Mali thought the same as he was sitting on the side of the stage taking it in) He was wonderful and just has the biggest smile on his face when he's on stage.
Someone else will have to fill in the Threadhead village shenanigans although I did ask Blue if they had any Jello shots and the reply was "@$%^ I think we must've had a hundred of em!!!"
Threadhead paparazzi were snapping away all afternoon so I'm sure they'll be plenty of pics coming.
I'm sure there will be more updates from today, and from the TH village festivities.
It was a wonderful day so nice to see TH's I knew and to meet new ones!
WOO HOO!!! Joisey rocks!!

Scoop!
Marcia and I were glad to meet you as well. The only missing thing was a certain softshell sammich.
I was looking forward to seeing Hubert Sumlin myself, but could not bear to leave that last set at the main stage. Grand time indeed!

Papa Roux and I had a great time, too.
The music is always wonderful, of course, but I just love seeing all our friends and having the chance to gather with them and share it all together. We got there in time for Sonny on the main stage, then caught Papa Mali for a bit, over to Bonearama, then back to Sonny, and Geno, then NOSC... and I was too tired to walk over to see Hurbert, although I thought about it.
The red beans and rice w/sausage was real good, and so was the jambalaya, but I sorta lived on fruit smoothies (even though they ran out of the Pina Coloda and had no straws, duh) the fruit cups were great. Me,not being a beer drinker finished one of Juls Amber Boch's and decided that I like that! So I finished my husbands later, too, and someone handed me an Abita so I drank that. I think with as hot as it was, the icy cold beer actually tasted good for the first time ever to me... and I had a few waters inbetween, too, and a bite of Denise's shrimp Po Boy.
I ran into a few other friends I hadn't seen in years, including Big Paulie, who I made follow me around and introduced him to several Threadheads and made him show everyone his Dr. John the Night Tripper tattoo.
Got to take a few pics of folks I seemed to have missed at Jazz Fest, like that Swag guy, don't know how that happened... but I still missed JoeRI, even though we got to chat, we all had our hands full of food, so no camera access, and Mels :) I was so glad to see Mels!!! :) Just didn't have much time to chat during JF.
We spent some time with Juls and Charlie after the show, our friend Karen was with them. Karen lives out in Washington now, so we spent a lot of time trying to get her to move back to NJ... and drinking and laughing. We got home around midnight, and the drive back seems to have gone a lot faster than the drive up there.... less traffic I think.
Oh yeah, and someone asked me if MD was a doctor. I told them he was a gynocologist and gave free breast exams.
That's right, right?

Wow!! Five and half hours cleaning out your garage??!!! DAMN!!! I wish I had been there - it sounds like a wicked good time ;)
Denbear and I and another friend saw a GREAT young band called "Seismic" that had come up here to Nevada City on Friday night - they've got some excellent funk/jazz/jam grooves and list the Dead, Phish, and the Meters amongs their influences. Check out their MySpace page for a taste:

So, that was my live music quota for the weekend . . .

Yeah, I'm hopin to be able to journey to Crawfishfestopia next year my own self - it sounds like way too much big times for just a small group of the Threadhead Nation, we need to represent larger in '08!!
Seismic was a truly excellent young band and Den and I yelled "Meters" at 'em until they finally kicked out the first fine funky beats of "Cissy Strut" . . . and then stopped! What teases they are, those crazy kids :p
They just flow directly from song to song without stopping in between, like the Soul Rebels - amazing!! We had a great time hanging with them after their show also . . . so it wasn't CFF, but it was a good time here in the beautiful Sierra foothills.

Yay, we'll be at High Sierra as well! We camp in the same spot every year with our group (behind the "swine" barn) ;) near the Big meadow stage and Vaudeville tent. We'll be having a margarita party on Friday afternoon so I hope you and Denbear will join us! :)

Our first visit to Crawfish fest was such a blast, thank you to everyone that put it on, and all the awesome people we passed a good time with. Cisco & his family had a great canopy area set up towards the back where we all were able to relax and visit, thanks for that! We loved meeting all the new-to-us threadheads (Michelino, Nola, Steeleye, Linza, ScoopJohn) and catching up with our all of our old friends too. Even though Jazzfest was just a few weeks ago, this was more relaxed, less running around. First thing we did Sat when we got there was get some us some crawfish, to get in the spirit, and that was really good, as was the jambalaya we tried later on. Oh yeah, and the music didn’t suck either! Especially the Saturday afternoon combination of Bonerama/ New Orleans Social Club. It was an amazing feeling grooving to that set, surrounded by so many blissful people; it felt kind of like the patry because there were so many threadheads dancing so close to the stage, all grinning from ear to ear. I picked up that recording on Sunday too for the ride home.
My favorite set on Sunday was Jon Cleary - it was the same kind of thing, with so many people enjoying the music and the vibe. Cowboy Mouth was a lot of fun too, I have only seen them in a huge crowd at jazzfest , so it was nice to be able to get closer in a smaller crowd to see the maniacal Fred. Superchief Trio, who opened up the Delta stage on Sunday was a pleasant surprise. Even though they are from RI I hadn’t seen them before - they do a lot of New Orleans material and older jazz and blues, like Fats Waller, Bessie Smith etc. Just Piano, Trombone and Drums, and the only female trombone player I’ve seen outside of a marching band, she is a good singer too. Speaking of RI how was Duke on Sunday? We had to leave before his set. Happily, the only thing Crawfish Fest was lacking was R - - -. And it differs from most other camping fests I go to in that it ends a lot earlier, and there’s not as much after hours jamming in the campgrounds (though I heard it was livelier on Friday night).
The combination of music, food, spirit, and this year’s heat & humidity made Crawfish Fest feel the most like a Louisiana festival than others in the northeast that I have been to – the perfect antidote for post-Jazzfest blues…. or, if you couldn’t make Jazzfest, not a bad substitute. I’ll be back again, thanks everyone!

It was wonderful seeing everyone:
Meeting lots of threadheads that we didn't get to meet at jazzfest: Grisgris, Tangled and Jude, Linza (keep your hands off my glasses!:) ) Jazzy keb, Deni Deadhead . . .
and hanging out with Mighty Rad, MDfests (your kids were so cute with Cowboy Mouth! Buy them a drumset--they've got the sticks), Amy and Jeff (Hey, Amy, maybe if you dress up like a kid you can play drums next time. How about pigtails and a lollipop? :) ) and Steeleye and Mary (who knew we had non-threadhead friends in common? Small world!)
For all the threadheads we didn't get a chance to talk to (not enough time between the music and a food run between every set!), there's always next year!
So glad you all came to Jersey!
Red Beans and Ricely yours,

Question/comments on the photos: I should know this, but who IS that cutie playing keyboards next to George Porter? That Barry sure stands out in a crowd - head and shoulders above the rest, LOL. Corona, enuf with the finger already! Nice pic of Ellen picking her teeth. Amy, how the hell can you read during all that - musta been one hell of a book! I was glad to see some shade trees and covered tents; more incentive to try to get there next year. (I think it always falls on a weekend when I have to work Friday, and it's an awful long drive for just a day and a half. But, WTF, I'll just have to suck it up and DO IT, right?!?!)

This was the best set of the year for me.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/Michelino/CrawFest/albumcover.jpg (http://jazzfestlover.myphotoalbum.com/slideshow.php?set_albumName=album02&utm_source=share&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=slideshow)
In fact, www.digitalsoundboard.net was there and pressed the NOSC (with Bones) set onto two CDS. We picked a copy and listened to the set twice more on the long ride home.
When it becomes available on the site...get it..it's a killer.

We waited (and waited) for the CDs of that set to be burned...took about an hour and a half I think. (As we both have mentioned...it's definitely worth it). And I know that George and the band kept their bus on the fairgrounds waiting for the first copy too. They weren't leaving without it either!

I don't need any selling on how great that set was, but by the time I tried to buy one, they had sold out. The website where they are selling them now, seems set up just for downloading.
As I am in the stone ages and don't have an mp3 player, I want a disc. The site says that you can download for burning to a disc, but I have to download a bunch of programs, and they are not window player valid etc, etc. Any of you techno geeks got a reasonable solution so I can get my groove on? :D

I assume you have a burner? If so, and are running XP, you can use XP to burn it.
(However, I'd have to go play with it to be able to tell you how to do it since I use another program to burn cd's. Maybe others can give directions quicker.)

Sometimes you build something up in your mind beforehand about how great it's going to be that when it really happens...well, it's not as good as you thought. As all have posted, Crawfish was awesome. The music was brilliant. Highlights for me were Sonny Landreth (I had never seen him live before), Hubert Sumlin (thanks to Scoop [Mr. Music] for the heads-up on him) and the oft-mentioned NOSC/Bonerama daily double.
But the real highlight was spending some time with all of the Threadheads. What a great group of people. I'd name all I met and talked to, but I'm afraid I would forget somebody. There's such a positve vibe on this board and when you meet the folks behind the board names and avatars, you understand why.

I was glad to see some shade trees and covered tents; more incentive to try to get there next year. (I think it always falls on a weekend when I have to work Friday, and it's an awful long drive for just a day and a half. But, WTF, I'll just have to suck it up and DO IT, right?!?!)
Hey Bonnie, it was kind of a long drive (by New England standards, 4.5 hrs each way) Joe had to work all day Friday too so were on the fence for a while, but ended up driving down Saturday morning and then left around 4:30 pm Sunday, but it was worth it! (we even got to stop at our favorite pizza place in New Haven on the way back). We have those other two fests in CT coming up, but this one had a more Jazzfest feel to it, probably cause of all the threadheads & Kats who were there, we felt so at home.
And yes there is lots of shade, some generously provided by the Cisco family (thanks guys!) and also several permanent structures you can go in to escape the elements. (sun/ heat/ R---/ whatever). And, as you can see in the pictures, everyone dances right in front of the stage and no one seems to mind...it's a good size crowd, but not as packed as Jazzfest.

That's a good idea, Brian. There was plenty of room in that grassy area just across the road from us to set up a large canopy. I would be willing to help offset the cost and help with the arrangements if Michael was inclined to go along with the concept. That, and the slip and slide would make CFF heavenly!

I would be willing to help offset the cost and help with the arrangements if Michael was inclined to go along with the concept. We can probably figure out a way to fund it so it doesn't add anything more to Michael's fest expenses. I could always sell pumpkin roll at the Threadhead bake sale.
i'm always willing to pay for a good cause---our comfort! ha!

Great pics Lis. I should have mine ready to go today or tomorrow at the latest /fingers crossed/ although many might not be so great to look at due to the level of slurgation.

that would be sweet. there seemed to be plenty of room for something like that in the field between our tents and the bathrooms... just need to remember lots of extension cords, a garden hose, a wading pool and a slip 'n slide :) we'll have our own little city. http://www.wham-o.com/images/products/lg_BNS_Prod.jpg
Then I may as well bring a moon bounce next year too!

It was very slick, there was like a self-imposed SRO, people just automatically set chairs up a little ways back and left the front open, no one even had to tell them to do so!

Ivan was still having a grand time last night here with a free Dumpstaphunk show that rocked, shook and shimmied downtown Rochchacha...an unofficial opening to our Jazz Fest...definitely, as Irma says,"that was a goodun".
