Saw the Neville Brothers in Orlando the other night, opening for Ziggy Marley. I thought both bands were fantastic and I am glad I went.
I found it interesting that the Nevilles were introduced as "The heart and soul of New Orleans." They no longer live there and will only play the Fest if they money's right, correct?
Perhaps they should use a different intro.

Charmaine Neville is still living in NOLA. I was told by one of the Neville family that she probably has the best voice in the family, I don't disagree.
Charmaine constantly donates time, energy and performances to many worthy local causes, she reads and sings to kids in school weekly. She never fails to promote her city during her concerts. Her JazzFest 2007 was particularly amazing, it's available on the Festival site, give it a listen, entertaining and moving.
Charmaine may well be the heart and soul of N'Awlins.

Since you brought up Charmanine, I have to brag on her latest mission! Since right before Jazz Fest, she has been cooking dinner at her house in the Bywater. Every Friday she fixes food & sells plates, she even has her back patio set up like a cafe, so you can eat there as well. Every penny of the money goes to an individual trying to rebuild their home. Charmaine rocks!!
God Bless Kermit Ruffins indeed! A much better representitive of New Orleans heart & soul IMAO!
BTW, Kermit & Karen are finally on their honeymoon in Vegas this week. :)
