That was my reaction, exactly.

I'm pretty sure he's unelectable, even in Louisiana.

On the other hand, I've been hearing a lot of grumbling about how a certain former LA Gov should be let out of jail...

I'll put our gov's against yours.

Past 4 governors:

Big Jim Thompson - head of Hollinger's audit committee - Signed off on illegal payments made to Conrad Black. Currently testifying in Black's trial as to his lack of oversight in rubber stamping said payments to his buddy

Jim Edgar - Squeeky clean (don't know how that happened).

George Ryan - Convicted on 18 counts of corruption, out on appeal.

Rod Blagojevich - Feds recently subpoenad campaign records, also under investigation for hiring fraud.

so if Nagin runs, and loses, does he have to give up his mayorship?..
im with you rosetree....i serioulsy wonder how many people were on the
fence after the levees broke, and then when Nagin got reelected decided to
leave....and how many people are NOT coming back due to baldy...

The Louisiana gubernatorial election of 2007 will be held in two rounds. The filing deadline for candidates is September 6, 2007, the primary will be held on October 20, 2007, and the run-off (if needed) will be held on November 17, 2007.

Incumbent Governor Kathleen Blanco is not running for re-election; her open seat will likely have several formidable challengers, including Republican U.S. Congressman Bobby Jindal, whom Blanco narrowly defeated in the 2003 election. Former U.S. Senator John Breaux, a leading Democrat, was expected to jump into the race, but declined to run April 13, due to the controversy as to whether he was "citizen" of Louisiana for the past five years, as he resided in Maryland. With Breaux's departure, Jindal faces an unexpected challenge in an anti-politican climate from Republican businessman John Georges, who currently leads the campaign finance race with $5.5 million in his campaign account. A red assed baboon could get elected to public office in Louisianna and nobody would be surprised. I watched the mayoral debates on C-Span and if you knew nothing about the situation there in New Orleans, Nagin looked like the cream of the crop.

yyr moon....even tho nagin is a baboon, his smooth public demeanor, made
him look like the best of the candidates....Ron Foreman (head of the zoo)
did not come off as well as had hoped.....and Landrieux was so wimpy...
i mean im not in favor of mud slinging politics, but Mitch could have won
the election if he was just stronger, and distanced himself more from Nagin..
it was a crucial time for New Orleans, and I wished he had taken the
gloves off, when it was just him and Nagin in the end...even tho it was a close
vote, I still cant believe Nagin won...

OK...you win (or lose). All Fast Eddie Rendell is, is a flip-flopping lying S.O.B. Philthy is, was, and alway's will be a crime ridden rat hole. After keeping up that tradition, Fast Eddie Rendell figured he'd run for gub, and enough suckers voted him in. I like Mitch, even voted for him. I think that he was overwhelmed and actually relieved that he did not win. He is doing well as Lt. Gov---out of the fray. He is very active in restoring tourism and the arts.

If Mayor Nagin does enter this race, I suppose the best thing that could arise from it would be that it could make for lively dialogue in the debates among the candidates. It could help to keep the plight of Louisiana and New Orleans families on the front burner.
As we all know, the American public has a very short memory.

Yep, our medical personnel are on the way out too. And Blago keeps passing these wonderful packages like health care for all kids and such with no money to pay for them. Keno and a state revenue tax are two of his brilliant idea. But he looks good on TV signing unfunded programs into existence.

I always thought that a man that had connections in the federal government, connections in the state government, and truly loved New Orleans would be the perfect candidate for mayor, especially after K. Of course, what do I know?

Jindal will be the next Governor. [period]
I think Mitch is very happy with the Lt. Gov. spot and has done very well there, but I doubt he will make a run for Gov. Too bad he didn't try harder for the Mayor spot, but I don't think he really wanted it that bad...

Breaux would be my choice (I voted for him for President), but he's not gonna press the La. Supreme Court on the resident issue, even though he would win that case. He really doesn't want to do it, not sure I blame him.

I don't think Edwards will be out of jail before 2010, he would be a real challenge for Jindal, like it or not and LMAO. Such is our politics.

Jindal vs. Nagin will be the biggest landslide in recent La. elections, I think.

So the question is who do I vote for in the Dem primary? Foster Campbell?
I think I just threw up a little, in my mouth ;)

I am in complete agreement with Blainn and Mac on this matter. There is NO way that Nagin is electable in a statewide election here. No way, no how. Orleans Parish is unique in this state regarding white voters crossing over to vote for a black candidate. Outside of Orleans, you are talking about single digits in the southern part of the state and virtually zero north of Red Stick. It cannot happen. The main reason that Blanco got in was that Jindal got virtually no votes in N. LA because he is Indian, but when faced with Jindal v. Nagin, there is no doubt in my mind that Da Mayor gets crushed. Considering what he has done since being reelected, I think he would have a hard time getting a meaningful margin of victory in Orleans Parish.

Aside from that, I think baboons deserve better than this thread has given them.
