Does anyone know if Tip's will push back the start times to accomodate the people coming from the last shows at the Voodoo? Rage doesn't start until 9pm and the Pumpkins end at 9:30pm. I need me some Dumpsta and Galactic both nights. I've been to every Jazz Fest since birth so I know the routine, but this will be my first time coming home for the Voodoo. I know that most start times for the Fest are usually pretty liberal, especially if there isn't another show later at the venue, but again I'm in the dark with the Voodoo after shows.
Someone please help so I can get my tix.

Man, I've not seen a tips show start at the published time. Everything starts nola time, imo. And you know it will go late so if you miss a few minutes, it will still be all good because you're in new orleans. Wooohoooooooo! The denson show is sunday night at tips and it's only $12.

what I'm banking on for Friday for d'phunk is....Johnny sketch is opening for Ivan....and I figure Ivan won't go on until 11-11:30 so we'll be safe to finish with rage and scoot over to Tips....hoping to head back to the Jamn's to change but it all depends on the cab situation.....

Sounds like a plan, Corona. Hopefully it works out that way for us. The Tip's show on the last night of the Fest didn't start until pretty late. I just saw Rage at Alpine a little over a month ago. I've seen them countless times over the years, but had not seen them in quite a while. They were the same amazing Rage. We are in for a treat.
I'm assuming this is the same Corona I was next to for RRFB in the front row @ the Saenger in '05. If so, What up girl?

I would not count on the closing set time at Voodoo to be all that accurate. Headliners in the past have gone well over the advertised times, sometimes until 11P. FWIW, Kermit is playing early sets on Thursday-Saturday of Voodoo weekend at the Ritz-Carlton starting at 5P.

nola funk,
Have you been to a show at the Balcony Music Club? Someone told me from back home it's the old Matador, but they have not been there since it reopened. Any info? With that Saturday show being at 3am proclaiming all star secret guests, it sure peaks my interest too. Could be a late night Fest type throwdown.

haven't been there yet, but the guy who did the booking for tipitina's (can't think of his name...steve???) did his last show weekend before last with the fat's cd release party is the one who is doing the booking for the balcony. (he may even be the one who reopened it?)
it's going to be a great place for live music.

Yup, they're advertising it as the old Matador in the Where Y'at paper....on Esplanade at Decatur.

Yes, the Balcony is the old Matador. I walked by not too long ago but I didn't go inside. Looks like they fixed it up, though. I haven't been in it since The Matador closed so I guess they had to fix it up before that magic club thing opened there 'cause the place was a dump, but I loved it just the way it was (sigh).

Good to hear from you again, Corona. My name is Chris. It's been a long time since that RRFB show, so I'm sure you couldn't recall. It will definitely be a great time. Like I said earlier, I've been to every Fest since birth, but this will be my first Voodoo. I'm really looking forward to it. And as far as the rain goes, it will definitley be nice if we get none, but you know damn good and well mud won't stop us. It never does. If those newbies that are coming with you start complaining, just show them Robert's march. They'll snap out of it.

Any guesses on 'friends'? I have never seen anyone at DBA, been in there to drink before and thought that was cool in itself. This looks pretty good to me. I love the old wood bar and just the overall feel of the whole place, very cozy to me.
bigeasy711

I've seen plenty of shows there during Jazz Fest. It's a lot better now that they raised a little platform in the bar for the musicians to do their thing. You can now see the performers much better. All in all I think it's an awesome bar and it offers people the opportunity to see great perfomers, that are generally playing at larger venues, up close and personal. For the music lover the location couldn't be any better in the heart of Frenchman.
BTW, McGregor, the friends are GP Jr, Ian and Russell. Pretty powerful line-up for such a cozy room. A definite can't miss.

7 days away as well, we are getting married in a little garden ceremony with parents/few friends and then heading to our favorite destination, the Big Easy!
There will be no happier man in American next Thursday around 1pm (I mean I'll be happy during the wedding also, 11am start time, but uhhhh , yea, you know what I mean! :D )
Moving and getting married in the same month is craziness but on the other hand you are so occupied with everything going on, it doesn't really stress you to much on either account. I think she's probably a bit more stressed than myself. All I have to do is show up and not get my pants dirty on the way!

Last year none allowed. I have emailed twice asking the same thing this year and gotten no response. So my guess is no chairs allowed again. (Really bad for people with back pain like me, who need to sit every now and then. But I really don't want to get the whole chair debate started again, so if you are on the no-chair side of that one, just let it go, OK?)

I have not had a problem parking at Voodoo, either, but I wonder how bad it gets later in the day. There is often a surge of folks just coming in after 4. Of course, if the parking is too hard or if Gretchen Wilson sounds better to you than Smashing Pumpkins, there is an alternative in Kenner:

This is near my house, but not really my style. If I were going to Voodoo Saturday (which I cannot), I would check out Mute Math. I am enjoying their CD, it's hypnotic and melodic with a bit of an edge. Perhaps another time. I'll be there on Sunday.

I definitely felt/feel lucky to have been there. They played all the hits, just as if they had been playing together for all the years that they weren't together. And they told stories (none of which I remember; memory is a casualty of my standing by the bar) that were hysterical. It really was one of those "my cheeks hurt from smiling" shows. :)

I am hitting the road Thursday. In the past, I parked for free right at City Park. I am looking forward to seeing Anders at Le BonTemps Friday night and either MOMS or DDBB/Cleary at HOB on Saturday after Voodoo.
I'll be there with my CRUDE group from Krewe du Vieux. We will be dressed as devils as we are repenting our past transgressions and engaging in an immaculate consumption. If you come to MOMs, please approach the group of about 6 devils and ask for Kim. I'll be the Devil Dominatrix in red and black accompanied by the Good over Evil cross-dresser (angel riding on the devil's back!) They have a KILLER band, Toubab Krewe, www.toubabkrewe.com as the headliner and Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes warming it up. Hope to cross paths with you Threadheads there!

Mike, if you are going to MOMs Ball on 10/27, please look for me! I will be with about 6 other DEVILS. We are with the CRUDE Krewe du Vieux and we are repenting for out past transgressions and engaging in an immaculate consumption. Just approach and ask for Kim... I'll be the deil dominatrix dressed in red and black. I'll be with Good over Evil .. an angel riding on the devils back. Please find me... I would love to cross paths with a fellow threadhead! Toubab Krewe is headlining. www.toubabkrewe.com They are awesome! Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes and Gradoux are opening. Hope to see ya at the Howlin Wolf!
