I can't put too much stock in a survey that ranks Indy as #4! No offense to you denizens of the Hoosier state, because I have friends who live there.

Due to a corporate transfer, we were going to be sent to Indy. I could not reconcile to the idea of living there. I was so relieved we we were sent to NJ instead! :)

There's no way, in my mind, even with New Orleans' troubles, that Indy could compare to New Orleans as a desirable place to live.

Interesting that nowhere on that list are any California areas . . . could explain my some of my thinking . . .

I don't believe surveys either. As we all know, you can make numbers do almost anything. I just thought it was a nice thought....
Maybe if/when the Saints win the Super Bowl next year, we will move up in the rankings!!!:p ;) :D

I didn't look at it that way (re: major league sports connection) - you may be onto something, there!
But, if that is the case then we can chalk up Zydekitten's comment about California not being anywhere on the list to two words: Barry. Bonds.:p

Oh, stop! :p

Nobody here gives a fiddler's f**k about Barry Bonds - even we Giants fans . . . ;)

There are so many reasons not to want to live in California .... none of the involve Barry Bonds. He would be on the "Why we don't like cheaters" thread.

You LIKE NJ?? with our highest car insurance rates, our stuffed to the gills population, our traffic and lousy roads... better than Indy? I've only gone out to visit friends in the burbs of Indy and thought it was a pretty clean city and we had great tickets for Springsteen (3rd row, center) and everyone seemed pretty nice.

Just read this to Papa Roux and it appears to me that he's fallen in love with Old Algiers... Hmmm...did you have something to do with that, forcing us to come over there to your studio and sending us onto that pharmacy for the magic lip balm? LOL He wants to know the elevation there. I think we need to buy that school and turn it into a Threadhead condo!

We are the highest ground in NOLA +10ft above sea level!!!! The Quarter and da Point were the first inhabited parts of the city 'cause they were the highest. The Old Belleville School was started as a condo project about 10 years ago and had it's starts and sputters but never got done.
I bet we can get enough people here to put in on it and make that "Threadhead" condo dream come true...;)

Yes, I do like Jersey! In fact, I love it. I have made some of the best friends of my adult life there, believe it or not! It's close to NYC, Washington, D.C., Philly, & Montreal. It's so wonderful that you can be at the beach...er, pardon me, I meant THE SHORE, within 90 minutes from almost anywhere in the state. Or, to the mountains in the same amount of time.

It's actually a very pretty state with lots of historc sites and cultural & educational opportunities out the wazoo. It gets a bad rap, but the people are very friendly for the most part. I love Sandy Hook, Spring Lake, WFUV-FM, Delaware Water Gap, The GSP for the most part, Jersey tomatoes, and the public transportation to NYC.

Sure, the car insurance is high, but I think that could be said for most of the east coast, and Baltimore was way worse when I lived there. I think the worst part about living there is the property taxes for retirees. If you don't have a mortgage, you can't deduct the interest on your IRS return. A lot of them worked all their lives & paid off their mortgages, but they have to sell and move to North Carolina due to the high rate of property taxes in NJ.

I lived there for about 8 years. Montclair, in Essex County & Delaware Township, in Hunterdon County. I've been gone for about 9 years, but some of my Jersey friends are coming all the way out here next weekend for my daughter's graduation party. Yes, I think they're nuts, but they are the best people!

Indy is nice and clean, but I don't think I could ever live there! Indiana is a very pretty state, though. And some very nice people live there, too!

I have a two and a six year plan.Much depends on my biz up here in Chicago and my 12 year old boy and school. If I move in two years he will be entering high school and I can try to get him in Ben Franklin or a good private school, maybe even move to the north shore for 4 years for the good public schools. Six year plan is easier. Wait till he's off to higher learning and we head South as the ink is drying on his high school diploma!!
