Great as always, though only in one size this year....what would have been the small size in years past. And for $5.

I missed Monica's Monica?????!!!!
Damn, that's adding insult to injury (the injury being that the Fest Monica only comes in one small size for $5 now) . . .
BTW, Monica (the person, not the pasta) introduced me to the infamous Softshell Crab Po-boy this weekend and I get it now. It won't replace Crawfish Monica in my affections, but I've added it to my top five Fest Foods list (gonna have to relaminate the card).

I hate to say this but...this year's fest monica just wasn't as good as it has been in the past (still tasty but not the same) - it was missing all the creamy goodness...hubby pointed out that he could tell by the lack of lines on any day, especially the saturday of 1st weekend - waited 40min. for a crawfish poboy and only 3 for the monica...was a sad sad day :(

lol, okay. Here it is:
Monica's Crawfish Monica
1 lb. crawfish tails
1 lb. (16 oz.) bowtie pasta
1 bellpepper, chopped
1 bunch green onions, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 TB. parsley
2 TB. flour
1/2 C. milk
1 pint half and half
1/2 cap of Zatarain's crab boil (cap, not cup!)
Tony Chachere's to taste
Saute bellpepper, onion and garlic in butter. Add crawfish tails that have been seasoned with Tony's. Add parsley. Add crab boil. Stir and simmer for about five minutes over medium heat. Add flour to mixture and cook till the rawness is out (a few minutes). Add milk and bring to light boil to thicken. Cook for 5 min. Add the half and half and then season to taste with Tony's. Cook until the sauce thickens (5-10 min.). Add cooked, drained pasta to sauce and stir. Cook over low heat for 10 min. then serve. : )

Tony Chachere's is a creole seasoning. You get it by the spices at the grocery store (Walmart for me) and it's in a little green can:

I've never ordered it online but I know you can get a pound of frozen crawfish tails in the seafood freezer at Walmart for like $6. They're not Louisiana grown but they'll do. I think they're called Boudreaux's. They make it sound cajun to try and fool you. ;)

Mama, when I was in MA and was down to my last bag of crawfish tails, I went down to our little local mom & pop fish market and I asked if I could order them. They checked & said they could, but they had no use for them & I'd have to take the whole case. OK, no problem. It was a lot of $$, but no more than a nice case of wine. With my last crawfish, I made them a bowl of crawfish monica and David made a little crawfish bread & took it to them. When the case came in, they asked if they could buy back 5 or 6 bags from me, ;)
Check with your local market.

I dont get the draw for crawfish monica. its pasta in a spicy cream sauce with some crawfish in it. its the macaroni and cheese of the fest. its not even fresh pasta. i mean it doesnt suck, but there are much more interesting things to eat at the fairgrounds - like the spider sandwiches, for instance.

We likes our macaroni & cheese in these parts. Especially when it comes with lots of butter, cream & seafood!

One favorable factor for the Crawfish Monica is that it is not as messy to handle as some dishes. Try eating the chicken & jama-jama without a table to put it on. And the "spider" po-boy, those crispy legs can squirt!
By the way, have you seen the Jack In The Box ads for fried macaroni and cheese? I can't believe.

Secret? It was amazing to me, as a kid, to ride my bike to the Jackson ferry, then cross over to Algiers, which was nothing like the big city, more like a country town. And, it had a record shop with older stuff than you could find at Smith's on St. Charles.

We did the same Wednesday walking over to Rosetree's studio. Tons of cute little places in the $200K range! We can't live there (not permanently anyway), but I'm going to roll my 401(k) to an IRA when I leave this job and want to invest it in real estate . . .
