<clearing throat> ;)

Don't let go to your bo, ah, head there Miss Jada.
The Tigers have been sitting around for a week waiting for the Redbirds to finally settle things with the Mets. Timing was a little off and Mr. Reyes was quite the little buzz saw tonight.
Don't forget they lost to the Yankees in game one, too. And remember if you please, in '68 it went 7 games, but in the end even the incredible Bob Gibson couldn't stop the Tigers!

That was to Miss Jada lol.
I'm hoping the fact that they've been off the field for almost a week was the contributing factor for the crap I saw last night. Fingers crossed big time!!!

The little bird deserves to be shown.
Congrats to the Cards on Game 1 --- they had great pitching going (fielding by the Tigers didn't help).

This may be a loooonnng series. I'm thinking/hoping Tigers in 6.

Jada

Don't get me wrong when I clear my throat. I fully expected my Birds to get spanked last night. I'm nervous as hell about Game 2, hoping our winning wasn't just a fluke. Yeah, we played a great game but it's a long road to winning the WS. Anything can happen and Detroit has a great team.

Rogers pitched a great game. I got really sick of seeing Rogers' and Weaver's tonsils though, how bout backing the cameras out from the throat shots from the mound? Are all the starters mouthbreathers?

Anyway, the sock didn't work tonight. Was that because it was laundry day?

First, let me say we screwed up. A LOT. I can't believe Encarnacion hasn't been benched yet. Also, Wilson is frigging lazy.

Second, the Tigers are a great team and I DON'T want to take anything away from their win.

Third, (and this is ALL I'm going to say about this) Kenny Rogers is a cheater and then lied about cheating. He should have been ejected in the first inning and the Tigers would have had to have gone to the relievers in the 1st. He should also have been suspended for the series (according to the rules).

Fourth, LaRussa is a weak, weak man for letting his friendship with Leland dictate him not calling Rogers on the carpet.

This was a BS game b/c the Tigers would have had to go to the relievers for the rest of the game.

Other than Rogers being a cheater and a liar, the Tigers played a GREAT game and I tip my hat to them. They played hard and they are class act.

This from ABC:

Television cameras caught a brownish substance, possibly dirt, on the palm of Rogers' left hand in the first inning, and showed it several times. By the second inning the substance was gone, and the pitcher's hand looked clean.
Umpires huddled before the start of the second inning, then talked to Cardinals manager Tony La Russa on the field. La Russa didn't appear happy about the explanation he got.
In the middle of the inning, three umps chatted with Tigers manager Jim Leyland near the third-base line.
"Tony said a couple of hitters complained the ball was doing some funny things," Leyland said during an in-game TV interview from the dugout. "Evidently, Tony brought it to their attention, but obviously it wasn't anything."
Umpire supervisor Steve Palermo told a TV reporter that whatever Rogers had on his hand needed to be cleaned off. The supervisor said it was nothing suspicious, and both managers were alerted.
When La Russa gave his in-game interview, he said the issue was not something he wanted to discuss.

This is going to be a thorn in Detroit's side for the rest of the series....the what if's and all that crap. This sucks really. It could have been mud like he said....dirt on the ball or it could have been sticky sealant shit....I don't think we'll ever know but a shadow has been cast over the Tigers now and it's such a drag :( Rogers wasn't real convincing in his interview last night.....btw, WHY WOULD HE NEED TO CHEAT IN THE WORLD FRIGGIN SERIES?? He's been doing great...would he be that friggin stupid when the cameras are on the pitchers more than anyone else in the game? Damn.....see can't even be excited about the damn win now :(

When the announcer first started talking about it, I thought, it's just a bit of dirt on his hand. The pitchers were blowing on their hands then picking up a resin bag of the ground --- I really don't believe it was anything illegal, myself.

But it does cause a fuss that will damage the credibility, doesn't it.

Calypsogirl
10-23-2006, 12:59 PM
funny, though, how there was no more dirt on his hands for the rest of the game...even with all the rubbing and rosin bag picking up...there was a big 'ol smudge on his thumb, a bigger deal than what was on the hand, if'n you ask me! Glad Tony called him on it. didn't appear to help, our bats were flaccid again...

Not a huge fan of the Gambler, but he pitched a pretty kick-ass game after the suspicious substance was washed off. Just saying . LETS GO MEt...never mind.

Well, Rogers may or may not have been cheating. It's kind of irrelevant. Because it assumes that other pitchers are "clean." Throughout baseball history, that has clearly not been the case. Many pitchers have thrown spitters or used foreign substances. And many batters have used corked bats. Who knows? Maybe even in Game 2 (or Game 1), there were other pitchers using foreign substances, or batters using corked bats. They just didn't get caught.

Let's say that Rogers was cheating. If so, he apparently wasn't after he got "caught." And the Cardinals still couldn't hit him.

By the way, I don't care who wins the Series. (My wife does; she's from Michigan). I suppose, though, that because I hate Jeff Weaver (former Dodger), I'm probably rooting for the Tigers.

well, he wiped it off his hand onto the back of his hat supposedly as the hat turned brown and "dirty" after his hand was washed off. Cardinals are due a series win anyway, and karma is a bitch, so I think rogers will get his due if he was in fact cheating. go sharks!!

Sorry gang, all this crying about whatever was on Rogers' hand ignores the rich history of baseball modification that has been going on since before the Babe! Maybe there was something on the ball, but if the umpire who was watching the ball and every pitch closely didn't see enough to take a look I don't think there is much to this beyond St. Louis' lame bats. White ball with dirt or pinetar? Should have been pretty easy to see on the ball, not in some blurry TV image. I don't see a cloud and I doubt that the Cards would have done any better against the Tigers bullpen. It's a 5 game series now with homefield advantage for the Cards. Should be easy for them to win it if they are really worthy. Tigers in Six!!!

If the Cardinals get caught up in what happened in Game 2, they will lose the Series. This is (as is always done by the press) way overblown. Cheating has gone on in baseball for DECADES. I'm not supportive of it. I'm just saying don't be surprised by it. I mean, geez, Mark McGwire was bulked up on steroids. Isn't that cheating? Let's move on.

Yep, gotta agree. Congrats to the Cards and the boob squad!
Those amazing, lucky, gifted youngsters and the wizened old skipper just ran out of luck and poise when it got right down to it! This Tiger team was really young on the mound and that's ultimately what killed them!
Fortunately, most of them are coming back next year! I don't think we're going to have to wait 19 years to get there again.

Last night was incredible! Euphoric! It was just as nuts outside the stadium as it was inside. I was lucky enough to experience both.

I have to shout out a congrats to the Tigers for a great series. You made it to the WS and that is more than any other AL team can say. Detroit should be proud of their Tigers.

Unfortunately, you won't be going to a parade tomorrow (that was to you Blitzzzzz). Sorry, I just had to say it... :)

For now, a nap. Going to the Blues game tonight to watch the Detroit Redwings kick our booties. But who cares?

Wipe out the errors just from the Tigs' pitchers and it would have a very close series. Tigs' pitchers are good but young, and I bet the coaches work on their fielding off season. They'll be back next year.
Can't say enough about the Cards, really came on big time in the playoffs and series. Congrats !

GO CUBBIES !!!
