What is the New Orleans Jazz Emporium on Bourbon St.? I don't recall ever noticing it. I saw where Kermit Ruffins might be playing there sometime on 5/4 but I can't find any information about it.

Nope ... Daiquiri Bar was his previous place of employment
This place may be pretty cool, Bourbon could use some more pretty cool places

I went to this place in mid January when it first opened up. I believe this or next weekend they are making it into an official grand opening. I believe the place used to be called the Seaport or something like that. Compared to most places on Bourbon, the Jazz Emporium is quite nice. They really put in alot of money and time to do it right. Glass chandlier's, nice bars up and downstairs,
plasma tv's and had 2 for 1 drinks. The night I went Corey Henry and the Young Fellows played, Kermit stopped over for a few bud lights.

The email newsletter I received from Basin Street Records lists 5/4 at Jazz Emporium on Kermit's schedule. It's not on their website, but I just got that email today, so I assume the show was just scheduled.

Hey, Y'all!
I went and visited Matty B. there last night and it's a GREAT place!! Very, very nice (kind of swank actually) bar on Bourbon - with a fabulous wine list (Silver Oak AND Cakebread, Miss Vina!)
They had their Grand Opening last week and Kermit played with the Soul Rebels for it!
Voodoohead is correct - it did used to be the Seaport and is now owned by the same folks that own Tony Moran's just down the block.
Matt will be tarbending all weekend - if you want to drop by and quaff a cold, cold, beer - he'd love to see you all! Tell him Lisa sent you! ;)

:D They make some powerful drinks there. We visited Matty our first night in and had one very stiff martini -- I was spinning just from that.

My Dad would have meetings in New Orleans back in the day when there were jazz joints on Bourbon St. He and my Mom would go to Pete Fountian's club, they go to hear Al Hirt. I really wish the classic rock & 80's cover bands would disappear and jazz clubs come back.

Im standing at IAC, waiting for the bands to swich, and I hear a guy mention Threadheads. I ask him if hes a TH, and he says no, but they are the nicest group of people. At that point I recognized him from last years at Ms Lenas, and say "your Matty". Hes shocked. I then tell him I want a photo, and he says "thats the nicest thing anyone has said to me- no one has ever asked to have their photo with me before". Really nice guy- I went by to see him at work and he wasnt there unfortunately.

Put me down as a "yes" for that one.

It was a lot nicer spot than I expected . Next year I should take a shower first after working the beer tent in the pouring rain all afternoon,Matty is the funniest guy I ever met,I've been using lines I stole from him all week.

I hate to say it, but it seems out of place on Bourbon, its so nice, clean, and big. Hope it survives and there are more like it.

Yeah, me too - I spent the most time I've ever spent on Bourbon St. visiting Matt in there and it is nice and thus is struggling to get noticed amongst the usual Bourbon St. dreck . . . sigh.
