Cancelled the 7:20 flight from DCA tonight and told everyone there was no way they could get anyone to N.O. before EARLY NEXT WEEK. Yeah, that works.

We're flying to Mobile & driving tomorrow morning, no real apology from the airline, no hotel tonight, no voucher for transportation, no NOTHING.

Yuck.

Assuming the delay was caused by the airline (mechanical, crew) and not weather, you should ask for a "Rule 240" accomodation on another airline.

That said, flights to N.O. are extremely full right now, so not much may be available. Check yourself on travelocity or expedia for any available flights on any airline, and specifically ask for those. If not, it's not unreasonable for them to pay for your rental car/shuttle/whatever from MOB to MSY.

Delta canceled our flight and didn't even tell us. They just booked us on a flight with a 8 hour layover that didn't get us in to Nola until late that night when were were due in at 10am.

Keep on it folks. I was on hold for an hour and finally got switched leaving from another airport. Thank God I am in NYC with 4 airports to choose from.

Both of my Delta flights got cancelled (to and from BWI). The Delta agent acted like I was lucky to get rebooked same day with only an extra couple of hours layover. That really pissed me off, but judging from some other experiences maybe I was lucky.

A friend on the same flight got rebooked a week before Delta contacted me. So I would definitely recommend checking with your airline to make sure the flight was not cancelled. I wouldn't trust them to notify you.

I'm flying Delta also. Two weeks ago I got a notice from them saying they had to change my flight times. Instead of flying a 6pm nonstop flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans, they booked me leaving 10:30am with two stopovers(about 8 hours). They also did this on my return flight. I called and got a very nice agent an explained I had a work problem with their new flights. She actually helped out with better flights leaving out of Burbank and getting in to New Orleans earlier Friday evening. We actually talked about Jazz Fest for quite a while and she said she really wants to go next year.

But want happened last night is I get a E-mail reminder from the airlines with the old flights listed. I checked with my confirmation code and it came up with the new flights. I think I may be booked on two different flights now.
I will be able to print my boarding pass after 1pm today with the new flights so I should be fine, but man the airlines these days.

I will need a drink in New Orleans, soon as I get there.

My advice...

1. Do not volunteer until they can tell you what replacement flight they can guarantee you a seat on (not standby). Flights are as full as I've ever seen them. Make sure the offer is worth the extra delay. Coming home from FQF, AA offered $250 for a 2 hour delay, but on the next flight, offered only $300 for an overnight delay.

2. Check in early, online. That protects you from the involuntary bump, and on some airlines, also may move you up the list for voluntary bumps. Especially if flying Southwest - SW is the worst for involuntary bumps, plus boarding groups are based on check in time.

3. If you do get bumped involuntarily, remember that you have the right to have your compensation paid in cash instead of a voucher. (Voluntary bump comp. is always a voucher).
