I always take my backpack. I usually leave it at my chair when I go wandering. I take my camera, money and cigs - you know, the IMPORTANT stuff - and leave the rest at "camp". So far no problems doing that.

definitely yes, where else you going to stash all the stuff your gonna buy at Rosetree Glass booth at the Crafts section. ;)
really you'll want one to carry whatever, towels, sunblock, water, beer, food, change of socks, Tshirt, poncho, lagniappes, etc, etc,.........
I have a pack that is a regular backpack on top, and and a soft cooler on the bottom. wouldn't leave home without it!

yes indeed it is good to have the sunscreen mini first aid kit ground cover bandana etc and r##n gear with ya. So I pretty much do the same...only hinderance is the extra weight when bolting through the gates :)

Funny timing on this thread. I have been thinking of bringing one, and I've been festing since '92 without one. I've always carried a fannypack and lots of crap hanging off of me (I've got clips for everything). The only thing I've had trouble with is lagniappes. I've been carrying in a cheap plastic bag, which I tie to the pack strap, but it can get cumbersome. I've always liked the freedom of having less stuff to keep up with. I have a tablecloth in one back pocket and a poncho in the other. A few items go in the pants pocket, and everything else goes in the fannypack. If I buy a book or too many cds at fest, I just walk over to the postal booth and mail 'em home.

Bring it to New Orleans with you. Bring it to Fest first day. leave it home second. See which you prefer. There are advantages to being able to carry more stuff, but it's also a great feeling to be able to wander unencumbered.

Guess I take a middle ground. SMALL, light backpack (kind of a backpack purse) - with just the essentials. I spose a larger fanny pack would do, but I prefer to carry the load on back. Can still leave it rest if camp is available, and carry money/bandana/lip balm/tissues in my pockets.
(You HAVE see Tie Dye Guy's packing list, right???)

Back pack definately......but then, I make Mr. Soul carry it around, so it's not really an issue for me.... ;)

I always bring my pack, I was a girl scout way back then, and always gotta "be prepared".
I have friends that bring only cash and sunscreen and love the freedom of carrying nothing else. But of course, they always come to me when they need stuff.

and don't camp at all...but still a backpack is handy...i don't put much in that doesn't get used up...sunscreen...double bagged ice packs for beer and oranges...yellow beer is nasty if it ain't cold...and that's the only kind ms lena has...cold oranges in the midday heat are sheer heaven...and if it happens to r#$*...insta cooler becomes insta dry pack...for purse, money, camera, cigs, etc...happy festing everybody!

I'll give my 2 cents too. Backpack is the way to go. You'd be surprised at the stuff you need....suncreen, band-aids, camera, lagniappes, etc. Don't forget that you'll probably buy a t-shirt or two, plus some crafts maybe. You get the idea. It's a great thing to have at the Fest

If I overfill my pockets my pants fall down, so I carry a backpack!
Take a backpack and try to do all your JF shopping(t-shirt, posters, books, cds) the first day.

One trick with the backpack that I've used is to bring a padlock with a flexible hasp, like a bike lock, which you can lock your pack to a chair in your tent of choice when you're running out for food or a trip to the blue room. Beats lugging it with you and is a handy chair marker, too.

You'll find some of the Threadhead camps and we always babysit backpacks or purchases for you while you go wander or potty or buy me a beer (he he) .... Check the Totem thread for pictures so you can look for 'em!
Our Diver Down Flag (big, as in 3-foot) is usually on the grassy knoll at Acura, but some days this year may be set up at Sprint. Either way, we're on the right (track) side of the stage and love visitors! Come on by!
Bon Fete!
