My runnin' buddy for Fest just found out she might be able to go for 2nd weekend. She can't find a reasonable price on a flight. Anyone have any cheap flight info that'll help get her there from Ann Arbor (Detroit)? This'll make 15 yrs. we've been meeting up. I'd hate to have her miss it.:(

Check the nearby airports; Gulfport, Lafayette, Monroe, even Houston and rent a car?

Southwest might still have some discounted fares, but I would strongly suggest pricing each leg differently. The most flights into New Orleans are through Houston, but all the discounted fares on that leg are gone, so if you want to be able to see any possible discounts into or returning through Houston, you must price each leg separately.
Unless you travel on Wednesday, the lowest SW fare from Houston-N.O. is about $125/OW.

what dates is she looking to fly? Would she be interested in flying Southwest? If so I can sell her a roundtrip voucher to fly on southwest for $300.

Hey Now--- I have flown into Baton Rouge for last min. Mardi Gras visits before. You can save big $$$ and then take the shuttle bus to N.O. for 15 bucks. Very simple and painless!!! Good luck to your compadre......

Southwest also flies into Jackson, which is about a 3 hour drive. Continental services Baton Rouge, but their discounts are 14 day advance, so you might not get a good deal through them.

This might work. I'm sending her the link to this thread, then it's up to her. Running out of time at the library & I still have to pack. Thanks, all!!

Careful now. Southwest changed their policy, and you can no longer use their vouchers if seats are available. They limit their rewards seats significantly now, and All flights from Houston-N.O. are booked both weekends on Thursday & Friday, and leaving town on Monday & Tuesday. Once they're gone, you can't use those vouchers to book a flight.

yes but there are seats available from detroit to new orleans. the new policies are that there are no black out dates but they limit the number of seats available for vouchers. If water's friend is interested I could be og huge help. roundtrip on southwest without the voucher is around $500+

Hey Now Jailbait--- I used my SWAirlines voucher a couple of months ago when I flew to New Orleans for a long weekend. I was having a great time so I called to ask if I could change my flight so as to stay an extra day. They were SO accomidating and helpful!!! Light years better than Delta, American, or United. If there is an available voucher seat on ANY flight needed, it is yours for the asking!!! Those vouchers are priceless for last min. travel needs.

exactly. these things are great as they allow you to change your flight without paying a fee which is common on most SWA flights. The only problem is most flights are booked up jazzfest weekend though so your options are limited but they're there.
So if anyone is interested in this voucher let me know soon. as long as there are seats on the flights you want I can call to see if those seats can be obtained with the rapid reward voucher and then after the person pays me through paypal I'll then book the flight for them.
Lemme know if interested. I'm gonna step away for a bit to hit the gym but will check back in later this evening.

It got even better for me. After changing my flight home, they told me I would have an hour layover in Vegas. Time enough for a beer..... In the Vegas airport, I passed by all the slots and video poker machines, which I usually ignore, but I had the change in my hand from my beer, so I slid in $10, and won over 600 bucks!!! So by changing my flight and staying an extra day in New Orleans, it about payed for the whole trip...... Sometimes things work out for the best!!!

Wow, that's great Matthew!
I guess the SWA vouchers to NOLA right now must depend on the city or something? Swampie tried to use one for one of her friends from Oakland with no luck.

I posted this last night, but it's not exactly what you're looking for.
"Just for fun, actually, I'm still trying to convince a vigin to make the trip, I searched Expedia for 4/25-5/8 trip to Jazzfest from Detroit, 1 person, 1 room. Remarkably, I got 13 nights at the Holiday Inn Express at 221 Carondolet for $1500 with a decently timed 1 stop roundtrip flight on US Air.
If you've got un-committed friends, there's still time!
So much for all that planning ahead. Go figure."
