Having a hard time picking shows to go see at night.
We are coming in Wed and are thinking about going to see Sonny Landreth and Roddy Romero at Mid City (never have gotten to go there)
Thursday we are thinking of either going to Mid City for the Zydeco night with Geno Delafose, or going to Tips for Rebirth and Dirty Dozen, or the Maple Leaf and Big Sams Funky Nation (haven't seen them yet).
Friday probably going to take it easy (unless yall can suggest some show that we really need to see)
Saturday probably going to go to Howlin Wolf to check out Cowboy Mouth and The Bluerunners followed by Rebirth late show.
Any other suggestions?

Campbell Brothers at Old Point Bar either Friday or Saturday would get a strong recommend from me. The Friday night show is a benefit concert and costs more than the Saturday show.
There is a Campbell Brothers thread here I recommend you check.

My $.02: You HAVE to see Big Sam's Funky Nation at some point during your stay! You should also get over to Rock n Bowl. Re Friday night: one of the famous NOLA/JF mottos is SLEEP WHEN YOU'RE DEAD!

Thanks for the recommendations.
Yeah I really want to see Big Sam, I've heard they really put on a show. I'm a big fan of Papa Grows Funk, but I don't think we're going to be able to see them.
Really looking forward to seeing The Stooges, Buckwheat Zydeco, and Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

Might have to try and go see the Campbell brothers. I'm a big fan of Robert Ranolph and this sounds like it will be right up my alley! Thanks for the info.

Ok,
Already got tickets to see Sonny Landreth and Roddy Romero Wed at Mid City, going to go see Big Sam Thursday at Maple Leaf.
Only question is which one of the Campbell Brothers shows to go see. Looking at the Friday show (but will they play as much, or are the other people joining them onstage) and then going Saturday to see Cowboy Mouth and The Bluerunners at Howlin Wolf.
What ya think?

Hey everyone,
Great to see all of the interest in the Campbells shows at Old Point. I can't tell you how psyched we are. We recorded last years shows and mixed a rrecord from it that should be available soon.
In answer to some of the questions I have seen: All of the guests will be playing with the Campbells. On Friday we will start off with a bunch of the guests doing a round robin acoustic set, with everyone switching off leading and everyone backing each other on their tunes. We will bring the Campbells on for the end of that set. After the first break it's all Campbells plus the horns, singers, etc.
The second night my band will open and then it's the Campbells and some special guests for the rest of the night. Either night you will hear LOTS of Campbell Brothers. I wouldn't go through all throuble of flying my favorite band down here if I wasn't going to get hear them play a whole lot!
As for transpo, the ferry should be running until midnight (or 11:30) so you can take the ferry ovwer and cab it back. Also, if you the Campbell Brothers thread, there are people making carpool arrangements, etc. It's not complicated to drive, the best way is to just take the bridge, take the first exit to the right (Gen. De Gaulle), follow the loop and take your first left at L.B. Landry (you will see the Fisher Projects across the street). Follow Landry ALL THE WAY TO THE LEVEE at Patterson St. (Landry will change names to Whitney about half way to the levee). Take a left and you will see the Old Point on the corner about 7 blocks after you turn.
As for advance tix, you can purchase them through my website at www.marcstonemusic.com Tix are already being purchased and after the new OffBeat comes out with a 1/4 page ad, tix for the benefit will go fast. We pre-sold more than half the tix last year and had to turn some people away at the door (capacity is only 200, and no way am I risking this show getting shut down). The second noght last year alomst sold out at the door with almost no advertising, so again, I recommend getting tix in advance. Plus the advance tix are 25% cheaper than at the door. There are no paper tix, your name will be at will call.
Thanks so much, and even if you can't get to the benefit show Friday, please support the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic, they are the premier organization for taking care of the musicians down here.
