Welcome to the JF board! You can buy the Brass Pass at wwoz.org.
fyi: There is a 99.99% chance that you will never need to re enter.
So, who is on your list to see?

jeemanz, you may think you'll want to leave but once you get there, that is likely to change. Fest is 11-7 each day. Night shows take over at that point. See www.jazzfestgrids.com to get all the info on all the night shows around town. Happy jazzfest!

If you pay to park inside the gates, you are allowed to return to your vehicle during Fest hours. Usually it's to stow your purchases or go back for the sunscreen.... Other than that, there should be no reason to leave the track area between 11 and 7 each day. Once you're in you won't want to leave!
Bon Fete!

Your best plan if you cannot leave your dog somewhere is to park at the Fair Grounds. Like festnut said, you can go back to your car without having to "re enter". I know of this couple that brings their dog and they have this large van (small rv) that they leave the ac on for the dog. You will not be able to leave your dog in the parking lot without ac. Best bet might be to find some kid that lives nearby & have them babysit for you.

And trust Fred when he says:

PLEASE find someone to keep your dog during Fest hours. It can get really hot, really fast and when you throw in some humidity it just gets worse. Parking on the inside is $35 -- it's probably cheaper to find a pet sitter and it will be MUCH better for the dog. Even tho those folks leave their dog in the little RV with the A/C on, the pup still yaps all day and is very unhappy (we seem to always park nearby). And if the A/C fails, it wouldn't take long for that dog to die.

Whew! Had us scared for a minute there thinking you wanted to go back to your CAR to check on the pooch! Thank goodness for sanity!
You're gonna have a great time, so make it to the meet-up at Ms Lena's Zulu Diamond Cutters Drink booth at 1:45 and you'll meet a bunch of ThreadHeads!

Well, I've had a hangover from it, but then again, maybe it was from the fine gulping wine chasers. :D

awwwwh, wine hangovers are the worse. the sulphites implant a little man with a hammer inside your forehead. the only way to make the banging stop is to have a hair of the dog. the little man gets drunk, passes out and quits banging his hammer.
i am serious. i've drank enough Abita in a day to kill a mere mortal (more often than just last year's patry), but feel just fine the next day. maybe i was still drunk.
i finally figured out why the hangovers don't seem as bad during jazz fest. the worse thing you can do is lay around and feel sorry for yourself. and there isnt time for that at fest. so you work thru the pain and get your butt to where ever, this gets your blood pumping and helps your body recover. of course that bloody mary might be helping also.

years ago some locals told me you don't get a hangover from Abita because its pure - no added chemicals, etc. a beer drinker would never lie about something that important.
