But is there a need of weather forecast in Louisiana in the spring?

Ya'll have to give my "triple please" time to sink in with mother nature... in many more ways than that which is plainly obvious,.. the high 70's/low 80's are so much cooler than the high 80's, low 90's ;) ...
there was one scorchin' day 3-5 years back,.. where all day there were huge clouds dottin' the sky,.. but that blazin' sun avoided those clouds all day long..... we were at the Sprint stage gettin' ready for the closin' act when some clouds finally caught the sun,.. and a huge collective immediate sigh of relief swept through the crowd.... it was an incredible sound....

as one who is being cyrogenicly frozen little piece by little piece I go with 45. As some of you know I am not much of a weather watcher but it seems that predicting weather in NOLA during fest is tough as the fronts tend to slide by alittle north or a little south of the fair grounds. forcasts change day to day. Acouple years ago we flew out with dire weather predicted and got sprinkles at the end of the day. Muddy waters/Lizz Wright. just saying if you got one of my R@!n CDs play it now to keep it away.

This guilt thing we moms feel must stop. If we work we feel bad we don't stay home, if we stay home we feel bad we aren't contributing financially. If we take a break we wonder have we done enough to derserve it, do we spoil our kids and worry we give too much, are we saying no to often and making them feel deprived. I am so past worrying about all that, I do the best I can, which I think is pretty damm good. Our kids will all survive somehow, we did, didn't we?
The minute I walk out my door at 3:30 am on Friday I am going to enjoy every single second. I swear it makes me a better mom when I get back. I must say we are also cool moms. I don't know about you but the moms I remember growing up weren't nearly as fun or as hot as we are!!!!;)

Candices daughters birthday is April 30th, and we wont be home for that ... I feel a little bad. In retrospect, Im sure Candice would have had labor induced a week early to avoid this unpleasant necessity each year. We used to alternate weekends, so every other year we'd be home for it, but now were doing both weekends, and I fear were never going back to doing just one

I used to miss the montreal jazz fest or was it the mon treblant fest every year because of my daughters birthday. I would watch my friends take off and come home with stories of a fabulous time. My daughter is now a sassy teenager who would welcome my departure. It's allways a tough call but I think if you are a good parent all year the actual birth day can be missed especially if a great present balances things out.

Hey all - happy parents = happy kids. When you all are at the Fest enjoying yourselves - the kids are home enjoying themselves. A few less rules and if they are staying with a friend or relative - there are usually a few treats ......so everyone ends up being better off...... no guilt. The kids prolly have a secret (or not so secret) count down calendar.... lol.
I know that one of my friends sometimes asks us to watch her kids when she goes away. The kids have a BLAST at our place - and we have plenty of 'guidelines'. Two years ago one of them said 'mama, can you please stop calling?' I fell into hysterics. I wasn't sure if my friend was going to be happy or sad. She stayed an extra 3 days on her vacation......

My daughter is 3. She made her first Jazz Fest apperance when she was 10 months old but I have yet to bring her back. She's too wide open for me now, I like to relax and enjoy my fest. I know I'd be chasing her from one end of the track to the other. Which would be fun and I'd enjoy it but I could not do it for 3 days straight. I'm fortunate to have both grandparents alive and living in the same city, so each grandparent gets to have her for a long weekend each. It makes the grandparents happy, my daughter gets spoiled and I get to enjoy my fest...its a win-win for everyone involved.:D

I have no kids, but I certainly remember being one. My parents were part of a big group of friends that were always throwing parties. They went out at least one night a week I think, to have fun. I never minded, they were adults and it was what they did. It didn't make me feel neglected.
I really did love it though when the party was at our house. My siblings and I would sit at the top of the stairs listening to them all getting drunker by the minute. Cocktails sure were big back then!

I am so happy to bring you the news! Quite a line-up, don't ya' think? I have never been to this fest but I have been to the area and I remember it being beautiful and having alot going on. I live in Connecticut, down by the water(after this weekend, everything is down by the water). I have a thrill ride of a summer already planned out as far as live music goes. Harry Connick this thursday in Providence, THE Fest(of course), the crawfish fest in NJ, The chesapeake bay fest, Roots and Rhythm and a few other assorted shows inbetween. Just found out Grace Potter is coming to Connecticut in July, she is playing this little beach gig that seems to get bigger and better every year.
I hope to see many of your faces throughout the summer.:)

I've decided it's too stressful to look at the forecast - therefore, I'm banning it. In my own concept of reality it will be 82 degrees, 52% humidity, sunny every day - with intermittent clouds to cool us off for 10 minutes each hour. The evenings will be a tropical 73 degrees. The only time the r-word will be allowed will be between midnight and 4 am....so that the flowers and grass may have sufficient moisture to continue to look and smell spectacular.
Anyone care to join my concept of reality? Ha ha ha

I promised Sam that she would have to wait until she was 18 to come to fest. She turned 18 in November and she's coming to fest this year for the first time. She's BESIDE herself! She's bringing her friend that came down with us in November. I needed to wait until she could handle her momma being a "person" and not a "mom" before I could share this precious event with her. I'm totally geeked to have her there. She's a great kid to hang with. Come see us at Ms. Lena's 1st Friday morning if ya get a chance :)
Chippie, the chicklet will be okay girl...it's a very brief period in what's going to be her very long life. Let yourself be excited and lose the guilt hunni....that's just too much negative energy....and it ain't gonna change anything anyways! See you in 9 sleeps :)

yes! It's good for them to separate from their parents a bit...7 years old is a good time for that..for a few days here and there...and she's with her godmother. Good! Email me Chippie and we'll chat about this...I have some good Sammy guilt manipulation stories from when she was younger....shit, what am I talking about she still does it NOW!!! lol "Momma come home.....when are you coming hoooooooome, I miss you....I need you here...my life sucks, you're the only one that understands...I'm fighting with my boyfriend...I don't want you to be away." Screw that msn forecast which includes the "r" word for Saturday. I like NOAA's better:
Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 81. West wind between 10 and 15 mph.
Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61.
Friday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 83.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 83.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

I started looking at the weather for the 1st weekend on Monday. Since then, the forecast must have changed a dirty dozen times.
I'll never forget last year when some crud was headed right for the fairgrounds. It did a splitsky just in time for Jimmy Buffett to come out on stage into the bright sun. He credited two nuns for making this possible.
You might be aware that the Shell guy said the nasty word at the press conference. IMHO, this precludes anything said on this board from having an impact.

please use r**n or something similar instead, or words such as moist. we're very superstitious.
and it does not do that thing every year, just seams like it. and there's different levels of moistness too. and sometimes the weather for each weekend is sometimes quite different. i think the only 'every' we can be sure of, is every year we have weather.

Oh hell no!! Never! I even got a bit irritated at the tv weather guy in Dallas last night for saying it! heh..
I totally understand..and how stupid of me not to think of that. It's like asking me what time it is when I KNOW it's about 5am and I'm still in a bar on Decatur St. Yeah, that's not something you wanna do.

I'll never forget last year when some crud was headed right for the fairgrounds. It did a splitsky just in time for Jimmy Buffett to come out on stage into the bright sun. He credited two nuns for making this possible.
OMG, I was there for that!! I still get chills thinkin' about it. I had tears streamin' down my face. Prolly one of my top 5 jazz fest moments! Just the way the sun broke through the clouds at the exact moment the Nuns told him it would.....incredible.....

I saved this from NOLA.COM:
It’s good to be Jimmy Buffett. He sells millions of albums and concert tickets. His fans adore him as the embodiment of their dream lifestyle. He writes bestsellers and flies his own airplane. He can wear a bright yellow Bob Marley T-shirt and aquamarine shorts to work, as he did Saturday at the Acura Stage. And he can call in favors from a higher power when necessary. Forecasters had predicted that vicious thu***d***ms would pummel New Orleans on Saturday. That morning, Buffett said, he consulted with two nuns. They assured him the sun would come out in time for his set. It did. Clouds parted and the sun beamed on the ultimate beach bar band. Buffett made an extra effort to reaffirm his ties to his native Gulf Coast and the city where he launched his career. He opened with "City of New Orleans." He sang about gumbo and crawfish pie, and tossed a line about FEMA trailers into "Son of a Son of a Sailor." If Bruce Springsteen was the preacher who delivered the eulogy last weekend, Buffett was the grinning uncle who cracked open the whiskey after the wake. Southwest Louisiana's Sonny Landreth, a frequent Buffett collaborator, apparently was unavailable for this gig; his contributions were missed. But changes in attitude are what Buffett is about, and he delivered. Jazzfest producer Quint Davis, in his closing remarks at the Acura Stage, mentioned the st**m that dissipated before it hit the city Saturday. "Somebody wanted us to have a good time today," Davis said. That somebody was Jimmy Buffett.

Can someone please take care of next weekend? Right now, the forecast for Friday & Saturday leaves me cause for concern. 60% chance on Friday 5/4.
