Hey as were are getting closer, we are looking to do some PR to let peeople who do not visit the bored that FestAid is happening again. Dan aka festering has been helping with the Press Release, and came up with the idea to have some of you all contact your local media to let them know about FestAid, and that might then reach other festivarians that might help out. Here is what to do:

HELP TELL THE FESTAID STORY IN YOUR COMMUNITY

FestAid, the organization of New Orleans Jazz Festival fans who donate
their time to hurricane recovery, needs your help getting the word
out.

FestAid, which connects Fest attendees from around the country with
volunteer opportunities while they are in New Orleans, is looking for
people who have done it in past years or are planning to this year, to
tell their story and spread the word right now in local media.

Call up, email or fax your local newspapers, radio and TV stations and
cable access channels and tell them you have a great story to tell: I’m
a local person who is eager to give up precious vacation and party time
to help people in New Orleans recover from the ravages of Hurricane
Katrina and I’m part of a bigger organization doing this all over the
nation.

Talking points to include in your story:

* FestAid is volunteers on vacation, donating their time and energy.

* We’re not just fans of New Orleans music, food and culture, we’re
fans of New Orleans itself.

* FestAid helps distribute food, rebuild homes, house musicians and
clean up debris in New Orleans.

* We need volunteers now, so please visit www.festaid.com and sign up
right away.

For assistance and tips on how best to tell your individual story,
please contact Dan (aka “festering”) at danhamgps@yahoo.com.

You can also contact me or give me as a contact to the media.

Thanks for your help ya'll

Feel free to do it here on the bored or use danhamgps@yahoo.com if you want to have a private discussion. I'm a media guy and can help you get the most out of an interview.

Official press release is about to magically appear, but we need real people -- Threadheads will do [grin] -- to deliver it and their own story to their local news outlets.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JAZZ FEST FANS VOLUNTEER TO HELP NEW ORLEANS

As music lovers from all over the world make their annual pilgrimage to New Orleans this spring, a dedicated group of them will take off their party hats long enough to put on work clothes and help the city continue to recover from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.

Organized by FestAid, an organization founded by fans of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the effort is powered by volunteers on vacation.

FestAid helps volunteers who come from all over the country connect with existing recovery projects such as distributing food, rebuilding homes, housing musicians and cleaning up debris in New Orleans. The volunteers offer their time and energy during the days between the two weekends of Jazz Fest, which this year takes place in New Orleans on April 27-29 and May 4-6.

“Our mission is to reach all of those who will attend the Festival to invite them to give a little back as they celebrate the soul and spirit of New Orleans,” said Brian Pulver of Chicago, who was inspired to launch FestAid shortly after the devastating 2005 hurricane struck the city he loves to visit.

“As several friends and I sat in my back yard just four days after Katrina hit,” Pulver said, “we talked about making a difference in this world and more specifically giving back to New Orleans.”

One of those friends, Glenda Revelle, co-founder of FestAid, put it this way: "Come join in. We'll be workin' 'til dusk, dancin' 'til dawn!"

"Last year over 125 volunteers performed more than 250 volunteer opportunities. This year we are hoping to do even more. There is still a lot to be done in New Orleans, and we'd like to recruit as many Jazz Fest fans as possible to help," added Pulver.

Details of FestAid’s volunteer opportunities and online signup to donate time and energy can be found at www.festaid.com.

Bump!

I have sent out our press release to several local media outlets, and a few NOLA outlets. Hopefully we can grab a few more people before they head to the festival.

There is still time to send out the word in your community. Contact me through the FestAid website if you need assistance doing so.

Thanks!
