Hey all,
We currently have about 45 people signed up to do some volunteer work with FestAid. We are very short on all days for the minimum number of volunteers needed to work at Second Harvest.
Please go to the website, www.FestAid.com, login, and sign up for some opportunities. If we do not get the minimum number of volunteer for Second Harvest, I will have to figure out what to do then. Right now Second Harvest is holding those days for us, so if I need to let them go, I want to do it sooner rather than later, so they can get some more people in there.
Also, we got a new opportunity:
Lakeview Civic Improvement Association. They are are presently replanting many of the neutral grounds on Canal Blvd. They have funding for the materials and equipment but are in need of volunteer groups (can be small, 10 persons for example) to assist in the planting and reconditioning of the areas. They are approximately 50% complete and are looking to finish the current project in the April/May time period this year.
They have been working on the project for over a year, but are now getting to the "fun" part, and it really has been a very positive influence on the neighborhood and the surrounding ones as Canal Blvd is a main artery of the city (and very close to the Fairgrounds!).
Check out some photos of their work at: http://www.maritimenewmedia.com/katrina/si/index4f.htm
Thank you all for your help and for giving back to New Orleans.

My wife and I just signed up for Tuesday morning food packing, so we need other volunteers to bring recovery materials so we can function after Piano Night [g].

Would it be better for someone (such as myself) who is signed up for Habitat to swap over to Second Harvest? I can probably do either.

Sorry we dragged our feet, but we are now signed up for Second Harvest Thursday afternoon. ChiTown Huck, do you know how easy it is to get there from the Quarter? We were trying to figure it out on a map, but are not sure how to get there. We won't have a car. Do you know if any public transportation goes out there, or should we cab it?

Thanks so much to Festering and Krewe of Chew (and all else who have signed up for festaid) this is so important and I hope will make your Jazz Fest experience all the more meaningful.
I have stated on another thread..... will be having a crawfish boil on Wednesday 5/3 in Lacombe for anyone looking for a lazy day or side trip (20 mi. from Abita Brew Pub).

If you don't have a car, cab is the only way. We did some car & cab sharing last year. Get driving directions - it's not easy to find!

Last year there was some ride sharing and others cabbed it. I sent out directions, but being New Orleans, it is not as straightforward as mapquest would make it seem, but it is not that far. Most of the way to airport.
There has already been a surge in the Second Harvest signups, so let's see how it plays out. It will be like last year I am sure, keep believing and it all works out. You all are the best! I will keep you all up to date as it progresses. We will have the press release out soon.

So what exactly is the address we would be looking for? The "location" link on Second Harvest's web site is broken. Is it 1201 Sams Avenue?
If so, it appears to be about halfway to the airport from the FQ.

We are up to 75 volunteers. We are still looking for help.
One opportunity to point out is the Lakeview Improvement Association. The main work they would be doing is green space improvement. If we can get a krewe together they would find us some work. I found out that Second harvest is not working on Monday, so if there are several people that want to work in Lakeview on Monday or any day for that matter, please email me through the FestAid website, and we will set something up. I would like to get 6 to 10 peple at least.
Happy Sunday ya'll!

Tomorrow I have to give my final numbers to Habitat Musician's Village, so sign up if you are signing up. Thank you all for your help. We will still have flexibility on Second Harvest.
Thanks for the reminder -- I just registered. I did it last year and found it very fun and rewarding, so I'm looking forward to it (and also to getting a little exercise for a change!). I couldn't tell from the registration calendar if I will be at the Musician's Village, but that would be fun because that's where I was last year. If my sis lets me use her car I may also be able to chauffeur. Can't wait!

Hey Funkkjunkie,
We are also volunteering at Second Harvest Thursday afternoon. There are two of us in the Krewe of Chew, and we have one other friend who has signed up as well. We would love to get a ride, if you have room for three. Let us know!

Thanks Huck, we enjoyed working at Second Harvest this morning. Sorry we couldn't do the afternoon too. Well, not really.... a coupla hours with the delightful Amyloves instead was a real treat!
You and yours did a great job again putting it all together. Cheers!
