View Full Version : Jazzfest Google Map
So Google announced this new customizable map feature earlier this week, and I couldn't help myself. Yeah, I've been working on a Google map for Jazzfest. Still a work in progress, but check it out:
http://tinyurl.com/3dzmm6
It's cool, because you can zoom in and pan around.
I'm showing the detailed locations of the cab stands & lines, shuttle pickup points, the bus and streetcar routes and stops, the Fest stages, some popular post-Fest hangouts, and, of course, Ms. Lena's.
Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hey Swag! Good work....but you've got the Gospel Tent right on top of my booth! The tent should be on the right of the Sauvage entrance....minor fix ;)

Very cool, swag. So comforting to know that Ms. Lena's ZDC Tent is only 833 miles, or about 12 hours and 49 minutes from my doorstep!
Now my question is the following: when are you going to devise a Jazz Fest board game, a la Monopoly?:p

Assuming it's exactly where the Jazz Tent was last year... when you walk in that gate, you have to take an immediate right, then a left towards the track, and then the tent is on your right. So the Tent is actually almost evenly lined up with Sauvage. I've moved it a few yards to the east. Hope that's better.
And the "tent/stage" pins don't scale as you zoom in or out. If you zoom all the way in, it'll look way too small. Don't blame me for that, blame google.

When I figure out how to sell it without getting sued by both the NOJHF and Parker Brothers...
By the way, can someone describe for me the exact location of the vehicle entrance for onsite parking, and the volunteer pedestrian entrance?

the vehicle entrance is the first street on the left as you pass the festival grounds on Gentilly. if you get to the circle you've gone too far.
(opposite of fortin/sauvage).
it (was) a waysup the street so you come in the back side by the stables.
handicap parking comes in the gentily gate.
this info is based in previous years, but i doubt its changed.

It's Trafalgar Street, which is the first right off of Gentilly after you cross DeSaix heading towards the track. You go west until you enter the back entrance as the street curves north and ends on DeSaix. I hope that makes sense, Swag. Great job, once again.

I believe the volunteer entrance is the larger opening between buildings just to the right of the vehicle entrance you have marked... across the street from the T-shaped building.
Okay, I think I have the parking entrance and volunteer entrance placed as described now. Thanks.

1,896 mi (about 1 day 3 hours) from my house to Liuzza's. I drive 1 mile to the 10 E and keep going. 27 hours seems quite ambitious ;)

It is a post-thing picture, because we have the new gray roof & not our beautiful red clay tile roof. :( But, Zuppardo's is still there (ain't dere no more) and the taqueria del BBQ is in Zuppardo's parking lot. Our fence is back up and there is some green, so it must be around Feb/Mar of 2006.... ;)

Swag, you're a genius.
I'm only 125 miles from Liuzza's. I oughta just drop by for lunch.
Yeah, Google actually caught some flak a few weeks ago becuase they were still using pre-thing satellite pix for their map. The activists said they were trying to "airbrush history". I think Congress is investigating, I kid you not. But they did update the maps.

If you zoom in and pan around a bit, you can see plenty of blue roofs. And if you look at the lower ninth, there's plenty of damage visible. :(

I noticed that new feature the other day. Great job with the Jazz Fest map! Just for laughs, I clicked on the Acura stage, and when it came up with 'directions to here:' I keyed in From Ms Lena's. It gave me directions from some place in Mississippi called 'Lena' ! LOL
