Heard mention of that- writer at Bloomberg pans it pretty much: http://tinyurl.com/yfjqxb

I talked to Cat Stevens once on the phone. Unbeknownst to me,
a mutual firend of a friend of his had gotten him to call this girl I knew, as a surprise on her birthday. We were having a small party for her at her house. So the phone rings and she's in the other room and asks me to "please answer the phone":

(me) Hello?
(Cat) Yes, this is Cat Stevens calling...
(me) Yeah, right.
(Cat) No really, this is Cat Stevens and I'm calling Barbara on her birthday!
(me) Sure. (covering the phone, yelling) Barb, some a-hole is calling, says he's Cat Stevens....

She comes running into the room and rips the phone from hands- Hello...
She shrieked and cried and couldn't even talk- hey, we were like 14 at the time. So anyway, I talked to Cat Stevens once on the phone...

I don't mean to be sexist, or disrespectful, and I hope no one shoots a missile thru my home but.... GOD ,HE WAS BABE-A-LICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!And a tremendous talent, too. I read alot of his music was powered by his search for spirituality. I'm happy to hear he isn't shelving his talent any more.

Am I wrong but didn't he convert to the muslem faith and had said some very bad things about Americans ?

Yes to both (well, I am unsure how "bad" things were that were said, but he did denounce our western ways publicly and burned a bunch of his own albums). I saw an interview w/ him not long ago, and although he is still a devout muslim, he doesn't seem as fanatical (for lack of a better word) as he used to be. Anyway, he did have a good voice, and while his lyrics were at times ridiculously simple, some were quite powerful. He is a teacher now, has a self proclaimed arranged marriage, and several children.I hope he is happy in his life as he did burn some bridges w/ fans here. I still like his music. I did here the new CD is rather mundane.
