Hi all, Ms. Festngator here- you have to check out the link to Joshua Nelson:
www.joshuanelson.com
He is playing in our area this Saturday night and we are going to check him out. Now wouldn't he be a fun addition to the Gospel Tent? Listen to the music sample, especially to the second song. The first is more traditional. He has a tribute album to Mahalia Jackson also. I am also attaching the link for Saturday's event as it has lots more song samples to check out. What a blast!

He's very interesting. There is something very appropriate about a Black Jew singing in the style of Mahalia Jackson. Also very appropriate to be in the Gospel tent!!

this guy is fine, and i agree it would be nice to have a bit of variety introduced into the gospel tent. if i were in charge......they might look at contemporary jewish music a bit harder for the fest. there are a host of acts, mostly based in the north that would fit in well at the fest. my personal favorite is a band called Golem (check out www.golemrocks.com) along with the incredible frank london's klezmer band. i am not such a fan of the klezmatics, who may be the most popular band of this genre, and mr. london is a member of that group as well. however, his side group sounds like temple in the 9th ward. wonderful soloists over driving rhythms with a barrage of competing melodic lines within the song. its modern dixieland played by guys in small round hats with pounding percussion.
sounds like new orleans to me.
klezmer for the world.
hope all had a happy passover.

the chocolate matzoh was yummy! louis armstrong wore a star of david almost all his life. if nothing else, jewish gospel would honor the family that helped louis!!!
