Hi,

My name is Robin and I'm planning on coming to Jazz Fest to see Norah Jones, I'm planning on arriving in New Orleans on Friday the 27th and going back the 29th on Sunday. Would that be a good idea? Is it easy to find a hotel once you get there and how far is it from the airport? Is it easy to get there, and to get a good place for Norah Jones, you have to be there in the morning really early probably? So it's only 45dollars to be there a whole day, right? That's really cheap if you ask me..

Thanks and sorry for all the questions...

Robin

Agreed, swagland is the best place to start, but to answer one of your questions, you may have difficulty finding a hotel room this late in the game. you might want to start there first and before dealing with all of the other questions (of which I could ask many):)

Don't worry, there are hotel rooms available. But you should definitely book it before you get to town, as many specific properties may be sold out, and the ones that aren't may not have favorable walk-up rates. You may find the best deals this late thru non-traditional channels, like priceline & hotwire. More info on that on swagland. Also find info on airport to downtown and downtown to festival transport options.

Yes, it's $45 per day for the whole thing. You probably don't need to arrive first thing unless you need to be right up front. Arrive mid-afternoon and you should still fid an ok spot, especially if you are solo or a with a smaller group.

Do not limit yourself to just the one stage. Bring a chair or blanket, get to fest and stake out your spot, make friends with the folks next to you, and then go wander. Follow your ears. You're sure to find lots of music you love. Then head back to your blanket for Norah.

There's a Motel 6 in Kenner near the airport that is worth a shot if you want a low priced place. I stayed there last year for two nights.

I guess my first question is...you're flying to New Orleans JUST to see Norah Jones?? She's not coming close to your town?
First thing..look for a hotel room...somewhere in the French Quarter or the Central Business District (CBD). At this late in the game, rooms will be in short supply (and maybe high $$$ too). Ride the Jazzfest Express from the Sheraton. If you're taking the time to fly to NOLA, be sure to spend most of the day at the Fest. Wander around, you'll hear a ton of music, lots better than Norah, IMHO. Oh...be sure and check out Swags list before you go. And, you might want to check this link so you know what you're getting yourself into! :)

The Fairgrounds are 9 miles from the airport. You can check out Swag's website to see what kind of deals folks got on hotels and when they got them. I got a deal thru Priceline, requesting a 3 star hotel in airport area for $50 per night. You can see the details on Swag's site. I plan on parking for free at City Park Marconi Meadows, and taking $12 round trip shuttle from there to Fairgrounds and back.

How soon you need to get there to see Norah depends on what time she is scheduled to perform, and where.

Norah- Sprint...last show... 1st Saturday opposite Rod, Ludacris, Sonny Landreth. Shouldn't probably be a problem seeing her.

Definitely look into booking a hotel thru Priceline. You'll probably be able to get a 3 to 4 start hotel in the Central Business District (CBD) or in the French Quarter for $50-$60. A more scenic and inexpensive way to get to the Jazzfest is to take the Canal St. Streetcar to City Park. The Fairgrounds are just a few blocks away and only cost $1.25. Make sure you take the City Park line and not the Cemetary line.

If you're by yourself, you should stay in the French Quarter at a hotel found through priceline..near the central business district (Canal St.) and walk to the Sheraton on Canal to buy your fest and shuttle tix for $61 per day (round trip shuttle). If you're in the quarter, you can bum around on your own and be relatively safe if you stay on busy streets.

The fairground gates open at 11:00 a.m. and you can set up at the stage..Shannon McNally and then Charmaine Neville are playing at that stage...they're pretty cool and different from each other, take some time to walk around, eat, listen at other stages...head to the gospel tent, Fais do-do etc. Head back some time during Calexico...(the act before Norah). If you go to www.threadheads.org you will find the fest map and food list that you can print out. You can also print out the "cubes" from this site which will give you who is playing at what stage. Most of all, stick around here with us and you'll find the answers to most of your questions okay? Welcome Robin, hope this helps :)

A lot of deciding where you stay depends on the time of day you're flying in on Friday and flying out on Sunday. The gates to Fest open at 11 and even tho Nora doesn't perform till 5:30 there are tons of stages, food booths and people to spend the day with! The performances end at 7 and then the logistics of getting back to the hotel start. If your Sunday flight is later, you may want to take in a night show....

So many possibilities...

So many talented musicians to hear...

So much good food to eat...

So many new friends to meet and old ones to greet...

Welcome, Robin! That's excellent advice from corona and everyone. Hope you enjoy Norah J. I love her voice. If you get a chance to talk to her, tell her to bring her pops to the Fest next year with his sitar!

Best wishes to you! Hope you have a wonderful time at the Fest.

Wikipedia has him turning 87 last week.

I think Norah is not even 30 so he was older when he had her with a much younger woman. Would have been cool to see him on stage with his Daughter!

Sissy - Last I heard, Nora and her father were estranged from each other. Might not be a good thing to say to her.

Anoushka plays quite traditional music, more like that of her father. She is also very beautiful.

She can be heard extensively on the Concert for George DVD. The George Harrison Tribute.
