Has anyone been to The Blue Nile RBBR? I just got tickets for Lonnie Smith/Doland Harrison/Stanton Moore. It sounds like a kick a** show but I've never been to this club.

Well, Mama - those are actually two different (but adjacent) clubs: the Blue Nile, which is hosting shows during Jazzfest produced by a San Francisco-based club, called The Boom Boom Room.
Ray's Boom Boom Room is another, totally separate club on Frenchmen St. adjacent to the Blue Nile - so it's a bit confusing.
I've been to the Blue Nile several times over the years (and through various name/ownership changes) and it's a great club, but be prepared to get in early to get a good standing position, as it's SRO during Jazzfest and hard to see the stage (which is floor level) from the back of the room.

The Blue Nile is just about to reopen after being closed since Jazzfest of last year. The Boom Boom Room out of San Fransisco is opening it for several shows over French Quarter Fest and Jazzfest. I'm not sure what the long term outlook is for it. The Boom Boom Room at the Blue Nile is not to be confused with Ray's Room. Ray's Room has been also known as Ray's "Boom Boom" Room, but due to litigation from the Boom Boom Room, they are supposed to be calling themselves as Ray's Room. The two clubs are just a few spaces from each other on Frenchman St. The Blue Nile probably can hold 100-150 people+
with a bar along the right side and the stage in the back. Went to see Kermit there the last Sunday of Jazzfest before it closed. Kermit is now an investor in Ray's Room. Sounds like a great show you're going to see!

The Blue Nile was supposed to reopen this past Friday, with Kermit. I have been on the coast in FL since last Thursday and I haven't heard from anyone about it but there should be music this weekend as well. I'll try to check it out, but their boomboomroom/jazzfest schedule is great!

We heard from Dank that Ray's is just Ray's or Ray's Room now as the SF Boom Boom was threatening to sue over using the Boom Boom part . . .

I don't know about threats, but the sign on the front of the club tonight said "Ray's Boom Boom Room". Fredy Omar was listed for tonight at 9.

Also they still bill themselves as Ray's Boom Boom Room on the live wire on 'OZ, so while there maybe pending litigation there may not be an injunction to use the name. All I know is in less than two weeks now I will be slurged enough in the great city of New Orleans to confuse the two in person-WOOHOO

Just about ridiculous, I think. There was a similar instance here locally. The Viper Room in L.A. threatened to sue a club here in Cincy by the same name.
I mean, how mixed up could a person be if they planned to go to L.A.'s Viper Room and actually ended up going to the one in Cincinnati?:D
Besides, there is a huge distinction between RAY'S Boom Boom Room and The Boom Boom Room, don't you think?

I don't think the name is exclusive to the SF club but who knows.
The name 'Boom Boom Room' has been copyrighted since 1998 according to google listing...
