New and Improved Rules for Jazz Fest.
The festival has an open seating policy - movement throughout the festival without impediment is essential to audience flow, safety and comfort. The use of ropes, cords, tape, etc. to reserve space is not compatible with this policy. In this same spirit, an area in front of the Acura Stage and the Gentilly Stage will be Standing Room Only.

Many of you commented last year about a few folks trying to reserve large spaces in the most densely populated audience areas all day in order to come back for the biggest acts. This new Standing Room Only area should make everyone happy and give more of you the same opportunity to get up close for their favorite sets! This area will be marked with signs, and staffers will be on hand to help throughout the day. The rest of the audience area at both stages as well as all areas at the other outdoor stages will be available, as usual, for chairs and blankets. Please also be considerate and leave some pathways between groups and around chairs so the crowds can continue to flow through to get plenty of beverages and return to the port-o-lets! Chairs are also allowed inside the Blues Tent - on the GRASS - but remember that all aisles must be kept clear in all tents.

Some other dos and don'ts worth reminding everyone of:

Allowed:
Small bags and backpacks
Soft coolers - 12-pack size or smaller only
Ice only in allowed coolers
Single, collapsible chairs
Push strollers for children
Blankets and ground tarps 6' x 8' or smaller
Factory sealed water (up to 1 liter)
Wheelchairs/medical scooters (please call the Access program with questions at 504-410-6104)
Plenty of Common Sense!

Not Allowed:
Hard coolers of any size or thermoses
Outside beverages
Wagons or carts
Athletic games, balls, etc.
Bicycles or other wheeled personal transport devices
Glass, personal tents, metal poles, shade canopies, beach or pole-style umbrellas
Anything used to reserve space such as tape, rope, cord, stakes, hammers
Video or audio recording equipment
Unauthorized vending of anything
Weapons, illicit drugs, contraband
Re-entry (except with OZ Brass Pass, Gala Pass, Big Chief Pass)

All bags will be searched and vehicles are subject to search.

Please continue to post comments and questions.

So, does anyone want to speculate about what the cost of a glass of champagne might be at the fest?

what would/should a can of domestic sparkling wine cost?
should = $2.97, but my guess is $5, since beers will be 4 & 5.

i did not see still (digital slr) cameras in the list of prohibited items. are they allowed and if so, is there a limit to the lens size? i have been to many fests, but i was wanting to bring a camera for the first time.

thanks in advance!

i used to find it stuffed inbetween the legs of my bag chair - that's probably why they make you unbag your chair now.
but i only snuck in twice - both times for weddings. and disposed of the bottle properly.

I am bringing my kids with me to the Fest next weekend (4 boys with the oldest 6 yrs old).

The prohibited items doesn't say anything about food. Am I allowed to bring in some snacks for my kids?

Of course, I will be eating PoBoys and Etouffee.

I'm almost positive you are. Someone else can confirm.

I have taken in snacks/food for my son on many occasions. Have not tried it in the past couple of years, though . . . so unless things have changed, I'd say it should be fine.

Yes, there are no restrictions on food. We bring in Poboys, chips etc from our favorite poboy shop that is located outside the fest. Never had any problems.

mariena,
We didn't have the brass passes last year and entered the main gate. Our Shrimp poboys were confiscated. We talked to the head of security; she was very pleasant. We made sure she got to enjoy our food. We didn't mind too much. The food at the fest was more than satisfying. We will try again this year. If nothing else, it will distract security from the libations I will be sneaking in

Unless you're on a very restricted diet due to a medical condition, bringing food to the Fairgrounds during NOJ&HF is like going out there wearing a iPod, IMO!:)

some people are on a very restricted budget. the music is included in the price of admission, the food is not.

I've got an idea for making a mimosa with the mango ice and a strawberry garnish-that might jazz up whatever cheap champagne they might be selling. Also has the advantage of keeping it cool!

There are 2 and only 2 rules:
Rule #1: Obey all rules
Rule #2: Anything not prohibited is compulsory
