Festy --- last year a few Threadheads who were volunteering at Ms. Lena's booth had difficulty getting a taxi to take them to the Belfort entrance. Will that be a problem again this year with the taxi rules?

i don't think these rules are different than past years. there are designated drop off and pick up places in an attempt to prevent traffic backups and people getting ran over because they exit a cab in the middle of traffic.

Belle,

Although your husband may resent the idea - you guys should be realistic- if he's not able to walk for any distance he might want to consider jazz fest accessibility - it may be a temporary condition for him - but if he can't walk that well - if you make arrangements with Fest you might be able to park on site or get in an easier entrance or maybe he can rent a scooter ????

I'm just thinkin' stream of consciousness (or unconsciousness....haha) - but it might be worth looking into now - rather than later - because then you have a solid back up plan.....

The Stallings Playground stand is 3 blocks to the Gentilly gate. The Esplanade/Mystery stand is about a 4 block walk, but you enter the more centrally located Sauvage gate.

The cab stands and entrances are marked on my Google Map (http://tinyurl.com/3dzmm6).

If mobility is an issue, and if hubby is too stubborn to get wheels, then you might consider the shuttle instead of a cab, if your hotel is near a pickup point. The shuttle drops inside the gate.

Don't forget that getting in the gate is only the beginning. The Fest is 1/3 to 1/2 mile end to end, and unless you stay at one stage all day, there's a lot of walking once you're inside.

A couple of years ago, I traveled with a gentlemen who was having a hard time getting around. We used the cab stand at the Gentilly Pedestrian Entrance (drop off/pick up for people with disabilities) to get him to and from the hotel.

If your husband has a changes his mind, wheelchairs are available from a veteran organization located at the Gentilly entrance for a donation. My friend Marvin opted for one two of the three days he fested.

Thank you so much!! He is so stubborn, I may just park him at the gate!!! I would push him all day from one end to the other, but to wander and miss all the gigs because he can't walk fast enough will make me mad. But he sure can dance with crutches...well I really dance all around him but he LOOKS like he is having fun :D

Remind him if he borrows a wheelchair, there's a special reserved section up front at each stage that the two of you can access.

Trouble is he doesn't look like he needs one except the 8 inch scar that is really red and very new looking that runs rith up the right leg and oh that dagone limp and moves about one step to my 8. We will figure something out or he will anyway. God I love the stubborn man but I want to boogie and suffer from FOMS that fast feet just might solve. You all know what I am talking about!

In most of the tents they have special spots for wheelchairs and even on many rows they have the last seat reserved for wheelchair and person with them to set at so you are not stuck just in the front or back. I would go that route-still doesn't mean that he can't get up and shake his tale if he wants at times and since many stages don't have chairs *usually just a bleachers- he can set and enjoy his time at the fest-being in a wheelchair doesn't mean that he can't pull the wheels himself and has to have you pushing him along.

I would take advantage of the situation.

is he still on meds for pain? double up on them and stick him in shady camp for an hour, then you can run the fest like the young free spirit you are.

just kidding about the meds - all prescriptions should be taken as prescribed!
but he may enjoy hanging with the stl krewe in the shade. you can see & hear the Fais Do Do stage or walk a few feet to get a close up view of the stage - short distance to food, drinks, & potties.

Has there been a good enough supply of cabs after 7:00? I don't expect to walk up and have my personal car waiting but, if we walk to a pick-up location would we actually be able to get a ride? Or is demand going to totally outweigh supply?

Countin' the days....

The line will appear really long ,but moves quite quickly.Lots of people join their groups together.Unless it's an insanely crowded day it shouldn't take too long, but I might advise a quick after fest drink while the line dies down a bit.

Exactly...if you want to leave right after the Fest, ride the Jf Express. If you want to relax and savor a cold drink with friends after the Fest, catch a cab or the city bus.

it might be tricky getting dropped of at BelfortIt was no problem for us last year, but we had the early shift and were there before any real traffic had formed. I bet once the gates open and police are at there posts it could be very difficult to get down Belfort in a cab.

Does anyone knows how much the taxifare is from the Airport to the fairgrounds? Is there a better way to get to the fairgrounds and back from the airport other than Car Rental?
