I've been to the fest a few times, always either used the Express bus or cabbed it. The wait for a cab after the fest has been painful at times.
Wondering if any of you have had direct experience taking the Canal Street streetcar to or from the Fairgrounds, and if so, would you recommend it?
I've been to Swag's site (deeply grateful for much good advice) but curious to know if anyone did this in '10 and if they'd do it again?

My experience from Canal street: streetcar to fest, NORTA bus back. Best luck with streetcar if you board near the foot of Canal before it fills up.

I love it. I met some great people and we had a blast. Even got to sining. Something about it that makes it more funner.
Be sure that when you get to Carrollton, you are on a City Park bound car. The earlier you go, the less crowded they are.....The Canal line goes by Betsys, a great cheap breakfast place too....
And if you hang around the fairgrounds after fest at Liuzzas or the restaurants there, it is good to go back to the FQ. No problem.
The walk to the fest is cool too, about 15 minutes and it is good time with the vendors hawking stuff etc and the scene at Liuzzas jumping off.

We usually take the streetcar in and cab out. Works just fine.
Hate the express shuttle bus. Mostly because I like taking in a bit of the scene outside the gates before I go in and the express shuttle brings you right in the gate and you can't go back out.

Either you skipped a "g" (Even got to singing.) or an "n" (Even got to sinning.) More funner either way.

My thoughts exactly.
Get on the Tram up near the Casino and you will get a window seat if you like, and its good fun.
Bus back is closer to Liuzzas and quicker back to downtown.

I agree this is the way to go.
I do love that street car ride on the way in. We've always had good luck getting on the first car that comes by. Sometimes we've also been on a city bus that runs along the street car route, and those are okay because you trade the ambiance of the street car for the speed of the bus.

Street car, yes, but NOT if you're in a hurry!
The trip up Canal can be very slow. You'll find yourself stopping at every stoplight and every loading area downtown. Even as you get into theneighborhoods, you'll seem to never make a light. It's fun, but at times it will feel like you're seeing the same people walking by you on the sidewalk cuz you ARE! If you're trying to get to the fest fast, this ain't the way, but it IS nice for a slow cruise.

Oh man, I wasn't aware of that...thanks for the heads up. I haven't streetcar'ed it in the past, but am thinking I might take that route this year.
