Just a little advice from someone who loves Jazzfest late night...
Been going down for 20 years now.....I love the Festival at the track, especially the food, but I live for Late night during Jazzfest.....So Ill go to the festival only one day of the weekend and have most of my fun late at night/ early in the morning......
Landing Thursday morning and hitting the fest, eating and drinking my face off!! Only advice I have for anyone new for the fest is share your food!! Get a whole bunch of different food choices and try everything. I used to get caught up in all the good stuff and found myself full way to early.....Not smart....Go with three or more and get different samplers and have 9 things to sit down and eat!!
Ill leave a little early get back to room and take a quick nap if needed...Then many many choices early that night. ME iM going to The IGUANAS cinco de Mayo show at 12 bar. (Playing with B Stolz of the funky Meters) Start out with coronas and whatever else I may do ;), also could hit Vaughns Lounge for KERMIT RUFFINS ........
then LATE NIGHT 2 AM KARL DENSONS TINY UNIVERSE at Tipitinas (uptown)!! Went last year same time, and he jammed till after 7 am!! It was ridiculous. Crowd was totally laid back and fun, and dancing fools.....If your a single guy (Im not) this is the place to be....2 of my friends met women for the rest of the weekend that night.....Me Im happily married and still had a n amazing time....
So your basically up till maybe 9 am....So dont go to fest Friday, sleep, sleep and sleep.......Then go eat somewhere great late in the day, or even early evening..highly recommend going uptown......Then Friday night so much music I cant even think!! Do I see GALACTIC/METERS show?? How about the totally new and great BLACK JOE LEWIS AND THE HONEYBEARS at one eyed Jacks (what Im doing).....SO many choices....LUCINDA WILLIAMS or THE RADIATORS......
then LATE NIGHT FRIDAY.....2am THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS.....or GREYBOY ALL STARS back at tips!! or even Bear Creak all stars at One Eyed Jacks!!......all at 2 am..Not to mention shows in The MArginy District......So again you may be out late....but Im old, this night I may only make it to 4 am!!! LOL....
Saturday, sleep and more sleep...!! Then it starts again....To many Saturday night choices, but ending up with 2am TROMBONE SHORTY show at TIPITINAS!!!.....Which is the perfect way to end it........Hope this helped someone, I am just working late and bored and cant wait to go!!
