I'd like to introduce you all to the lovely (non-denominational and leavened bread free) Easter toast that my husband's family celebrates with. first though, you have to go get a wedge of a hard boiled egg with horseradish on it and a shot of vodka or whiskey. We're partial to "V" vodka though I don't know if it's distributed outside of New England. Once you're prepped, go to my next post.

OK, Got your egg and horseradish in one hand and the shot in the other? Hold up the egg and repeat the following ," We celebrate with the egg representing new life, the horseradish representing the spice of life." Now hoist the shot and say, "And the alcohol representing the preservation of life." Do your shot, eat your egg w/ horseradish as a chaser and repest at frequent yet sporatic intervals throughout the day. The in-law tradition is to repeat this with every guest who enters the house. Enjoy your day (with a DD). xoxox hikerlady

~goes to the kitchen and starts boiling water for eggs to cook~
Can I shoot some Vodka while I'm cooking the eggs?
Where in New England are you? I haven't heard of "V" but I do have some vodka from Freeport Maine, I think it's called Cold River or something like that.
I'm going to invite lots of people over! LOL
Great toast :) Thanks, have a great easter.

Hatfield MA - odd thing is that the guy across the river who imports the V bought hikerman's aunt and uncle's house - they had a bar called the Kozy Corner, his last name also has a 'koz' in it and so he shares the kozy nickname with us. We've inherited the Easter party from the in laws, and contimue the tradition of "remember the year...." stories that started with them.

I love the toast!! Although, too many boiled eggs on top of horseradish, a lot of vodka shots & a roomfull of people might get kind of.......ummm......fragrant...
Happy Easter, everyone!

Well, I can do the egg, and the horseradish. Gotta get some vodka or some alchohol substitute. But this toast will be made today.

About to call some local liquor stores to see if any are opened. Should have planned ahead! I couldn't even think of booze yesterday after my night out on Friday.

Nice toast, hikerlady. Happy Easter.
An eggy day. The place we went for brunch had cool, surrealistic paintings on the walls, Each one had eggs in some form. There were fried eggs emerging from a hen, Eggs in space that looked like martians floating around in inner tubes with naked butts, and cloud-eggs floating in the sky. Then at the conservatory's fern room we noticed that the emerging fern fronds looked like little embryos. New life in many forms.
