Shuttle to Festival

In my past visits to New Orleans/Jazz Fest I've stayed in the Quarter, but luckily I've scored a free place to stay on this trip. Unfortunately its way up north near Lake Pontchartrain. I know there is a festival sponsored shuttle at the southern end of City Park but I'd need to take a cab to that, which begs the question if I should just take a cab all the way to the festival.

I know from previous years taking a cab there was a LOT easier than getting a cab home...

Anyone have any ideas as to what would be best in regards to getting to/from?

Yeah, there's no point taking a cab to City Park (Marconi Meadows) and then paing another $14 to ride the shuttle, when the cab all the way to fest will be quicker and cheaper.

It's true that on some days getting a cab leaving the fest may mean a long wait, maybe 30-45 minutes, but there's no other good option. I doubt you'd find a cab near the shuttle lot in City Park, and cabs are prohibited from picking up near the Fest except at the two designated taxi stands.
